Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels because the body is unable to utilize insulin effectively. The incidence of type 2 diabetes increases with age and unhealthy lifestyle. Uncontrolled blood glucose levels in patients can lead to various complications, including microangiopathy, which is a problem in large blood vessels (hypertension). Studies state that type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension have a 7 times greater risk of developing terminal renal failure (ESRD) and 2-4 times of cardiovascular disease, such as myocardial infarction, stroke, or death, compared to normotensive type 2 diabetic patients of the same age. Objective: This study aims to identify the association of blood sugar levels with hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: This study uses quantitative cross-sectional method using observation sheet. The sample in the study was 85 respondents selected by purposive sampling technique. Normality test using Kolmogorow-Smirnov test and for bivariate statistical test using Spearman Rank test. Result: The results showed 53 respondents (62.4%) experienced hyperglycemia, with complications of grade 1 hypertension as many as 33 respondents (38.8%). This result shows that the higher the blood sugar level, the more at risk of hypertension. Conclusion: The conclusion of the study showed a significant relationship between blood sugar levels and hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05).

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health issue, largely driven by low consumption of nutritious food and limited protein intake. This community service program aimed to enhance awareness and skills in NCD prevention among residents of Sungai Pinang Baru Village through health education and freshwater fish cultivation using floating net cages (keramba apung) along the Martapura River. The activities included health education, technical training, installation of floating cages, stocking of catfish and tilapia fingerlings, and continuous mentoring. Results showed an increase in community knowledge of NCD prevention from 33.3% to 80%, and in fish farming practices from 38% to 83%. A total of 10 floating cages were successfully installed with active participation from local health cadres and youth groups. This program effectively improved nutritional awareness, fish farming skills, and created new economic opportunities for riverside communities. The integrative approach is expected to serve as a model for sustainable community empowerment based on health promotion and local food resilience. Abstract

Indonesia is still among the 10 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis cases in the world. Prevention, treatment, and tracing efforts have been carried out, but many new cases are still being found. Handling tuberculosis cases is a shared responsibility and requires cross-sector collaboration. One of the sectors currently involved is the Ministry of Education and Culture, through the Tuberculosis-Aware Schools Program. The TB-Conscious School Program is the embodiment of GEBER towards the elimination of TB by 2030 in educational institutions. Based on coordination with the Sungai Bilu Community Health Center, it was deemed necessary to hold a GEBER event at SMK Wirakrama 1 Banjarmasin. The purpose of this activity was to increase synergy between educational institutions and health services in the context of implementing GEBER through health education and TB detection in school children. The methods used were lectures, demonstrations, and sputum sampling for examination. This activity was attended by 46 students, with males making up the majority at 58%. Based on the evaluation results, there was an increase in participants' knowledge, with the majority (58.7%) scoring “adequate” on the pre-test and 100% scoring “good” on the post-test. The conclusion is that GEBER represents the active participation of various parties in TB management.
