Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) IKIP PGRI Pontianak yang dilakukan oleh Tim PkM sebanyak 15 orang dosen dan 4 orang mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak bertempat di Rumah Pintar Kampung Literasi di desa Punggur Kecil. Kegiatan PkM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan Bahasa Inggris anak SD, SMP, dan SMA yang ada di Rumah Pintar. Jumlah peserta yang mengikuti PKM ini sebanyak 45 orang anak. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan selama tujuh minggu mulai dari tanggal 15 Juli 2022 hingga tanggal 26 Agustus 2022. Sebelum dilakukan pembelajaran, peserta rumah pintar diberikan tes awal guna mengetahui keterampilan berbahasa Inggrisnya sebelum diberikan pengajaran. Kemudian, pembelajaran dilakukan sebanyak enam kali pertemuan dan tiap pertemuan berlangsung selama dua jam. pertemuan ketujuh peserta Rumah Pintar diberikan posttest untuk mengetahui keterampilan Bahasa Inggris siswa setelah diberikan pembelajaran. Hasil posttest menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan Bahasa Inggris siswa mengalami peningkatan sebesar 16.9%. Hal cukup memuaskan karena pembelajaran yang diberikan berdampak positif pada keterampilan berbahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching assistance program and the challenges in implementing teaching assitance program at SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak. This study used a descriptive study. The techniques of data collection were direct communication technique and direct observation technique. The tools of data collection were observation, and interview. The subject of this research were 7th semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak and the students in grade 10 and 11 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak.The results of the research showed that the implementation of teaching assisstance program was succesfully regarded. All of participants carried out all the activities that have been previously arranged by the lecturers who guide them in implementing this program, even though there was one aspect of activity that all of participants could not implement because of learning at school was still limited due to the pandemic. As for challenges during the program, all of participants faced various challenges such as, in management or administration of education, in making lesson plans (RPP), students' network when online learning, the passive student when learning process, and one of participant who was still stiff in teaching.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the learning need analysis and validity level of supplementary learning module to teach students of English village in Sungai Deras. This research uses Research and Development with ADDIE model, which consists of 5 main stage, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this research were student at English Village in Sungai Deras. The technique of data collection is indirect communication techniques. The data collection tools applied in this research were validation expert sheet and questionnaires. Validation expert sheet was used to get the data validity, meanwhile questionnaires was used to get data the practicality of learning need analysis. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the level of validation of supplementary learning module from the material, language, presentation, and graphic aspects is white an average value of 76.04% including feasibility criteria. This mean that using supplementary learning module to teach students of English Village in Sungai Deras village classified as feasibility and practical to use. Meanwhile, need analysis of the Sungai Deras English village’s needs based on the results of the data need analysis questionnaire, there are 2 themes namely, the needs of the Sungai Deras English village and the planning of Sungai Deras English village.

Abstract

This study aims to find out and get information about the strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking English. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative study. The subjects in this study were 2 English teachers at SMA Karya Sekadau. In collecting data, researchers used observation blueprints, and field notes to record observations in research, and in data collection techniques researchers used, observation, questionnaires, and tryouts to obtain more valid information regarding the steps and strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking. English. Researchers also use thematic analysis to determine the meaning and theme of the research subject and can interpret it in the text. Based on the data, it was found that the strategies that were often used by teachers when teaching English Speaking in class includes role-playing, talking about games and graphics, and discussing strategies. Teachers employ this tactic more frequently to encourage student participation in class discussions. The approach is applicable to learning to speak English, thus that is the conclusion that may be reached. Students can converse more fluently in English as a result.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out how the management, organization and environment of English village in Parit Baru. This research use a qualitative approach with a descriptive design with interview and observation as the tools of data collection. The subject for this research interview were informants selected by the researcher, are the head of Parit Baru village, the head of the English Education Study Program IKIP PGRI Pontianak, one of tutors in Parit Baru village, and one of the student parent. The result showed that the management of the English Village in Parit Baru existed since 2020, but activities were hampered due to Covid in 2021 after that the next activities went well as before. The English Village in Parit Baru is administratively coordinated by the Head of the English Education Study Program, IKIP PGRI Pontianak. English Village activities are held at the Parit Baru Village Office.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether students experience problems in speaking English in language problems and psychological problems aspects, to find out the causes of problems in speaking English and how students overcome their problems in speaking English at SMAN 1 Semparuk. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The techniques of collecting data were direct communication techniques and indirect communication techniques. The data collection was collected with open-ended questionnaires and Interviews guidline. The subjects of this study were students of grade XI IPS III SMAN 1 Semparuk for the academic year 2022/2023 where the number of students amounted to 32 people. An open-ended questionnaire was distributed to 32 students, meanwhile semi-structured interviews were conducted with 7 students to corroborate data. To analyze the data, the researcher used thematic analysis. The research findings showed that the students had difficulty in speaking English, especially in pronunciation, vocabulary, and were nervous when speaking in front of the class. The causes of these difficulties are that they are afraid of being laughed at by friends, lack confidence, often use their mother tongue or local language, and limited vocabulary. They have great motivations to learn English such as wanting to go abroad with various interests, which can encourage students to overcome this problem. Students also tend to be active in their participation when they feel supported by the teacher's efforts to create a pleasant learning atmosphere such as interaction using quizzes or questions and answers. In overcoming the difficulty of speaking English students take the initiative to ask the teacher, utilize the English dictionary to follow the course, and provide responses such as learning strategy efforts with the use of image media, the teacher needs to support these students' efforts by providing appropriate direction and guidance. Keywords: Descriptive Study, Students’ Problem, Speaking English.

Abstract

English lessons are not compulsory in public elementary schools. It makes English a challenge for students in Indonesia's foreign language communication from an early age. This study aimed to find student worksheets and fun learning strategies, including singing and mentoring activities, to be implemented in teaching English to students. This research includes case study research. This study used a sampling technique to select five fifth-grade students who participated in this program. Data collection was carried out using participant observation techniques, and the documents included were student worksheets, photos, and activity videos. Data analysis techniques using thematic analysis techniques. The study results show that student worksheets and fun learning strategies can help students in English Village learn English through all teaching stages. It was concluded that alternative learning in the form of English Village using student worksheets and fun learning strategies had been proven to help students learn English by providing brief material that is clear and easy to understand.

Recent studies in academic writing have used coaching to develop specific skills and affective variables. There are limited studies on coaching academic writing using genre pedagogy (GP) with adult learners, specifically Indonesian EFL teachers. Abstract

In the research titled "Students Perception Of English Club In Enhancing Communicative Skills At Sman 1 Mempawah Hilir In The Academic Year 2022/2023," the aim of this study is to determine the benefits of joining the English club and students' perceptions of the English club in improving their communication skills. In this research, the researcher employed two instruments to collect data: field notes and interviews. The study was conducted at SMAN 1 Mempawah Hilir and involved the extracurricular English club instructor, Yuli Nuranawati, S.Pd. The researcher collaborated with the extracurricular instructor in data collection, seeking assistance in observing English club students to avoid bias. Meanwhile, the interviews were conducted by the researcher. Six English club students were selected as interviewees. Based on the results of observations and interviews conducted by the researcher in collaboration with the extracurricular instructor, it was found that the English club had a positive impact on their communication skills. The researcher also discovered how the English club enhanced their communication abilities.

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah untuk membangun minat guru di Kalimantan Barat untuk melakukan studi lanjut pendidikan tinggi. PKM ini dilakukan secara daring dalam bentuk sosialisasi program studi jenjang sarjana jalur Rekognisi Pembelajaran Lampau (RPL), pascasarjana program magister, dan pendidikan profesi guru dengan melibatkan penulis selaku narasumber utama dan tim beserta pemangku kepentingan di bidang pendidikan. Pesertanya adalah 162 guru yang berasal dari 14 Kabupaten/Kota yang ada di Kalimantan Barat. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan sambutan dan dilanjutkan dengan kegiatan inti sosialisasi oleh penulis dan tim, sesi tanya jawab, dan ditutup dengan pembagian tautan formulir presensi dan umpan balik kegiatan. Kegiatan PKM ini sukses berdasarkan umpan balik dari peserta yang mayoritas memberikan penilaian "Bagus Sekali" (60,49%) diikuti dengan penilaian "Bagus” (38,27%), dan penilaian “Cukup” (1,23%). Dengan demikian, kegiatan PKM ini bermanfaat bagi guru di Kalimantan Barat dalam membangun minat para guru untuk melanjutkan studi lanjut jenjang pendidikan tinggi.
