Abstract

This research used pre-experimental research that wanted to know whether Climbing Grammar Mountain Games has effect to teach simple past tense to the ninth grade students of JHS 01 Mempawah Hilir in Academic Year 2019/2020. This research used cluster random sampling, the researcher used multiple choice as the tool of data collection, but before it the researcher did the try out to find out which sentences that could be used as the tool by using validity test. After getting the valid questions for pre-test and post-test, then the mean score of pre-test and post-test would be compared. The result mean score from pre-test was 45.71 and from post-test was 67.32. The calculated of t-test showed that tobtain was higher than ttable, it was 17.491.703, It means that the testing hypothesis was accepted. Also supported by the result of effect size was 3.77, it had strong effect to this research. Therefore, Climbing Grammar Mountain Game is suggested to teach simple past tense. Keywords: simple past tense, climbing grammar mountain game, experimental

Abstract

This Research aims to find out the kinds and sources of speaking anxiety of the Students of English Parit Baru Village, Sungai Raya Regency in the academic year of 2021. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. Ten students from different grades of primary school around Parit Baru village were involved in this research. This research used a semi-structured interview and field note as the tool of collection data. data collection used an observation about students’ behavior during class that direct students to become Anxiety. The result showed that the kinds of speaking anxiety of English Parit Baru Village students were trait anxiety, where several students keep silent when the tutor ask them, students incapable to express their feelings, ideas, and thought; situation-specific anxiety when the tutor ask students to speak they sometimes can do it, in other condition or topics they also incapable to speak; state anxiety, when students ask by their tutor to speak suddenly, they cannot control their nervousness. Furthermore, the sources of speaking anxiety from personal anxiety can be overcome by actively of students during learning; interpersonal anxiety students need any motivation to learn speaking skills; teacher belief about language learning can be manifest by a good impression of teacher during teaching. For classroom procedure, the class needs to be relaxed; language testing derived from fear, shame, and doubt of the students.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the non-English students’ attitude towards English language at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. In this research, the form of research is descriptive mixed method. The subject of the research were non-English students’ of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. The data were taken through close-ended questionnaire and unstructured interview. In analyzing the data, the interactive model of data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman was used. The sample was selected used a quota sampling. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the respondents tend to have positive attitude towards English language. From the results of the questionnaire on the Likert scale of 52.69%, it indicated the agree category. This value shows that the average number of non-English students agrees. Thus, it can be said that the attitudes of non-English students tend to have a positive attitude towards English. The results of the data and conclusions in this study are real results obtained from the data source itself.

Abstract

Aplikasi Google Classroom sebagai platform pembelajaran daring belum banyak digunakan oleh dosen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi dosen mengenai penggunaan Google Classroom dan dukungan layanan internet dan listrik yang tersedia. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah dosen yang mengajar pada program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP-PGRI Pontianak. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan kuesioner, yaitu kuesioner terbuka dan tertutup. Data yang telah terkumpul dianalisis dan disajikan dalam teks naratif dan tabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Google Classsroom mudah untuk dipelajari dan digunakan serta terdapat fitur-fitur yang membantu dalam pelaksanaan langkah-langkah pembelajaran di kelas. Dukungan jaringan dan internet bagi bagi dosen untuk menggunakan aplikasi Google Classroom sangat baik. Penelitian selanjutnya diharapkan dapat menganalisis mahasiswa sebagai subjek penelitian sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam penggunaan aplikasi sebagai media pembelajaran.

Abstract

This research is descriptive qualitative which aims to find out the practices of the English village in the village of Nyayum. A class consists of eighteen participants from different classes who are deliberately selected as samples. Data was collected by using observation, field notes and student text. This research was conducted during teaching and learning activities. This research lasted for eight meetings. In teaching and learning activities, four stages of genre pedagogy are applied, namely knowledge building, modeling, combined joint construction, and independent construction. The application of a Genre-Based Approach to help Students to be able to communicative. Communicative can be in the form of oral, written, or even nonverbal. It is an inclusive term that refers to having knowledge of the language as well as the skills to use language in real-life situations to meet communicative needs. Language according to the researcher, is achievement in communication. During teaching and learning activities, observations were made by collecting field notes and student text. data analysis used thematic analysis to analyze field notes and text documents therefore, trigulation was carried out to validate the data. the findings describe the practice of English village at  nyayum village using a genre-based approach in learning activities. The practice of English village using a genre based approach as a method in teaching and learning activities can help students practice English because there is interaction between tutors, and participants. So, it can be used to teach English both informal and non-formal education.

Abstract

The purpose of the descriptive study is to explore the English as a foreign language second-semester students’ writing anxiety. The students were from a private university in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. A total of 92 students who were selected randomly filled the writing anxiety questionnaire. The writing anxiety questionnaire reports that 53.26 % (n= 49) of the students experienced low writing anxiety and 46.74% (n= 43) of the students experienced high writing anxiety. In terms of the components of writing anxiety, the students experienced anxiety in the component of evaluation (mean score of 19.86), product (mean score of 19.25), and stress (mean score of 16.52). This study also has shown that writing anxiety caused by stress can be considered less frequent anxiety component that has been experienced by the students. It is suggested that students should learn to manage their problems that are related to writing. To do so, the lecturer should guide the students to help them to reduce their writing anxiety and help improve the students’ writing skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the learning need analysis and validity level of supplementary learning module to teach students of English village in Sungai Deras. This research uses Research and Development with ADDIE model, which consists of 5 main stage, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this research were student at English Village in Sungai Deras. The technique of data collection is indirect communication techniques. The data collection tools applied in this research were validation expert sheet and questionnaires. Validation expert sheet was used to get the data validity, meanwhile questionnaires was used to get data the practicality of learning need analysis. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the level of validation of supplementary learning module from the material, language, presentation, and graphic aspects is white an average value of 76.04% including feasibility criteria. This mean that using supplementary learning module to teach students of English Village in Sungai Deras village classified as feasibility and practical to use. Meanwhile, need analysis of the Sungai Deras English village’s needs based on the results of the data need analysis questionnaire, there are 2 themes namely, the needs of the Sungai Deras English village and the planning of Sungai Deras English village.

Abstract

Tujuan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu sekolah menghadapi masa transisi pasca pandemi Covid-19 dengan cara membantu mempersiapkan lingkungan yang nyaman untuk siswa dan guru dan membantu mengenalkan pengajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan melalui pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang masih belum menjadi tuntutan di awal Tahun 2022. Tiga sekolah yang disurvei menjadi lokasi program ini, yaitu SDN 07 Sungai Kakap, SDN 20 Sungai Kakap, dan MIS Miftahussalam yang berada di Desa Punggur Kecil, Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya. Dua kegiatan utama yang dilakukan di program ini adalah gotong royong membersihkan lingkungan sekitar desa dan mengenalkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menarik melalui mata pelajaran Bahasa. Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dilibatkan untuk membantu memberikan hasil yang optimal. Hasilnya, lingkungan sekolah menjadi bersih dan nyaman untuk siswa dan guru untuk belajar. Selain itu, siswa juga berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan yang tidak hanya dapat membuat siswa lebih menyukai Bahasa Inggris tetapi juga membantu siswa untuk melihat proses belajar bisa sangat menyenangkan untuk diikuti pada masa transisi pasca pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching assistance program and the challenges in implementing teaching assitance program at SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak. This study used a descriptive study. The techniques of data collection were direct communication technique and direct observation technique. The tools of data collection were observation, and interview. The subject of this research were 7th semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak and the students in grade 10 and 11 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak.The results of the research showed that the implementation of teaching assisstance program was succesfully regarded. All of participants carried out all the activities that have been previously arranged by the lecturers who guide them in implementing this program, even though there was one aspect of activity that all of participants could not implement because of learning at school was still limited due to the pandemic. As for challenges during the program, all of participants faced various challenges such as, in management or administration of education, in making lesson plans (RPP), students' network when online learning, the passive student when learning process, and one of participant who was still stiff in teaching.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PkM) bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata di Desa Jeruju Besar,  Kabupaten Kubu Raya sehingga dapat memperkenalkan wisata  yang ada di kawasan Equator Park.  Peserta yang terlibat dalam kegiatan pelatihan ini berjumlah 20 orang terdiri dari pemandu wisata dan pelaku wisata di kawasan Equator Park. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dalam pengabdian ini adalah pelatihan Bahasa Inggris untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris. Hasil dari mengikuti pelatihan ini, para pemandu wisata dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dan kepercayaan dirinya dalam berinteraksi menggunakan bahasa Inggris aktif dengan turis asing. Selain itu, para pemandu wisata di kawasan Equator Park ini mendapatkan pengetahuan tentang bagaimana pentingnya dan pengaruhnya dalam menjalin komunikasi terhadap wisatawan asing. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari nilai rata-rata hasil posttest, yaitu sebesar 76.8. Dengan demikian para pemandu wisata bisa mengoptimalkan potensi atau kemampuan dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris.
