Abstract

This study’s objective is to find out if the Duolingo Application could aids students to improve their vocabulary mastery especially adjective. This research is quantitative and using pre-test and post-test design through a written test. The subject of this study were 31 students from SMP Negeri 1 Manganitu class 8 B. According to the data obtained, the mean Pre-Test score is 43,32, with the greatest Pre-Test score is 83 and the lowest is 10, and the highest Post-Test score is 97 and the lowest is 63, and the Post-Test’s average score is 79.80. Significant improvements can be noted in this data, and it can be concluded that the use of duolingo application successful for increase students’ vocabulary mastery

Abstract

It is good if English has been introduced since childhood to Indonesian children so that it will not become a frightening specter for them later. In the 2013 curriculum, elementary schools do not have English as a subject, because English has always been a local content subject. However, the obstacle in teaching English is that there are still many elementary school students who are not interested in this subject. The reason is that English is a new language for them and they don't have sufficient vocabulary mastery. Because of that, during English lessons, the teacher teaches only a few students who pay attention, there are many students who play, they feel bored and unenthusiastic when learning English. This was faced by students of the SD GP in Raanan Baru Village, Motoling District, causing them to be unenthusiastic and less creative when it came to English lessons. Therefore, teachers must pay attention to learning models that are appropriate to their goals, not boring but can motivate students and attract their attention, namely choosing learning media can help improve vocabulary mastery. Therefore, in this study, the writer used Visual media pop-up book to improve English vocabulary mastery of the students of SD GP Raanan Baru. The results of this study showed a significant difference, namely the results of the post-test were better than the pre-test as evidenced by the average post-test (T2) score of 71.2 with a standard deviation of 13.5, while the average value of the pre- test (T1) is 30 and the standard deviation is 11.1

Abstract

This study set out to find out how participants at The Bridge Education Manado felt about task-based learning (TBL) as a teaching strategy. The poll findings showed that participants generally agreed, highlighting their favorable opinions of TBL's efficiency in fostering student-centered and interesting language learning experiences that promotes a laid-back learning environment where learners' needs and interests are engaged. They acknowledged how language skills were included into TBL, highlighting how well it covered lesson retrieval and made it easier to remember earlier classes and resources as well as to improve language learning experiences and valued their significance and relevance to the actual world. These favorable opinions highlight the usefulness of TBL as a method of instruction that adheres to the fundamentals of communicative language learning and promotes successful language learning outcomes. It is clear from the survey results that TBL is well-liked by students at The Bridge Education Manado. These findings have effects on how the institution teaches languages. First and foremost, it is essential to keep supporting TBL as a pedagogical strategy and to offer ongoing assistance and chances for professional growth to teachers so they can use TBL techniques in the classroom. They would better comprehend TBL ideas, techniques, and material production as a result of this. Collaboration among educators can also encourage the sharing of creative TBL implementation ideas and best practices. Additionally, getting regular input from students can help to enhance TBL practices and better inform instructional design

Abstract

Songs are an excellent 'tool' to help the learning process students' English, more specifically songs are believed to be able to motivate students while studying English. Speaking as the one of four basic skills nowadays become more challenging for the students, but in the contrary there are so many students lack of speaking ability. The purpose of the study is to enriching students speaking’s skill through song. Using The design that will apply in this research was pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test class action research, this study employs a quantitative descriptive analytic technique. The number of samples in this study were 8 grade XI students of SMA Yadika Langowan who had been involved in the use of songs to enriching students speaking’s skill. The results showed that the eleven students of SMA Yadika Langowan had a higher score, especially to improve the speaking ability. Therefore, it is hoped that songs can also help to develop Pronunciation Skills with good intonation. Children will prefer English quickly because this way of learning will create a fun atmosphere and not feel bored.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts and explain how perfomerd Eleanor Falco in "To Catch a Killer"movie. This research involves qualitative methods. The steps taken by researchers to collect data were watching movie, then marking the types of directives than identified as asking, requesting, commanding, forbidding, and suggesting. Data were categorized based on the Vanderveken classifications (1990). Three steps proposed by Miles and Huberman for data analysis were used in this research: data reduction, data display, and data verification/conclusion. The findings of this research reveal a total of 33 Speech acts uttered by Eleanor Falco in the movie “To Catch a Killer” there are 16 asking, 10 requesting,4 Commanding,1 Forbidding, and 2 Suggesting. It is recommended research be a reference for readers and other researchers in studying and interpreting directive illocutionary act sentences in movies or other literary works.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to know whether the implementation of using flashcard as a media to improve students’ vocabularies mastery. The researcher conducted at the 8th grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tondano, which consist of 20 students for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research is quantitative research using a pre-experimental design which is only carried out with a pre-test and post- test in one class. Researcher collect data starting from the pre-test or before providing treatment and post-test after providing treatment. Based on the findings,it shows that before being given treatment, students got poor grades on the pre-test but on the post-test, or after the researcher gave treatment, the scores obtained by students exceeded the pre-test so that students had better grades than before (pre - test). The pre-test score was 55.70 and the post test score was 83.25, which means the post test score was higher than the pre-test score. And the significant value is 0.000(<)0.05, which means smaller than the alpha value. So, the researcher concluded that the implementation of using flashcard media can improve students'vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to discover out whether or not the utilize of Narrative Text in reading teaching can improve student’s reading skill to the third grade students. This is a quantitative research, and a reading test in multiple-choice format is use to collect data. Two narrative texts with ten multiple choice items each to consist the test. The test is using for both pretest and posttest. It was involve 35 students’ third grade of SMP MTs AL-Muhajirin in the 2023/2024 academic year. The data analysis leads to the following result: calculation of mean of pretest and posttest data was done using the formula previously mentioned. Thus, with ∑X = 168, ∑Y = 206 and n = 35, mean of pretest was 4.8, whereas mean of the posttest was 5.9. The calculation indicates that posttest mean (5.9) is bigger than that of the pretest, 4.8. In other words, it means that students reading performance in the posttest is better than their performance before the treatment. This is due to the application of Narrative Text.  Standard deviation, as pointed out earlier, was calculated using raw scoring formula. Thus, with ∑X2 = 860, pretest mean 24.5, and n = 35, the standard deviation of pretest was 0,7; with ∑Y2 = 1264, mean = 36.1, and n = 35, the standard deviation of posttest was 1.0. The result indicates that students reading performance in the pretest or before the treatment is more heterogeneous than their performance after the treatment

Abstract

This research explored the evolution of the English language within the context of the South East Asia Dota II server community players, focusing on the recent digital age. These features of language contributed to the dynamic and evolving nature of English within this digital environment. (1) The study aimed to investigate the influence of social media platforms on vocabulary and lexical choices, as well as the development of new English features within English dialects. (2) Findings revealed that social media platforms significantly impacted vocabulary, introducing internet jargon and abbreviations into regular communication, also Lexical choices were often shaped by the need for brevity and efficiency, leading to the frequent use of acronyms and slang that are influenced by the fluidity of internet. (3) Using a qualitative deeply integrated observation method in Peter Trudgill format, the research examined in-game chat logs, forum discussions, and social media interactions and used a corpus to generalize the research data. (4) from the data that has been gathered from various sources such using corpus, the data analysis reveals that contemporary slang and colloquial terms constitute a significant portion of the corpus, accounting for approximately 6.76% out of the 5759 total words. (5) The research concluded that the digital age, facilitated by social media and online space, played a pivotal role in shaping contemporary English, fostering new linguistic trends and expressions that reflected the global and multicultural interaction among users.

Abstract

One element of culture is language. Wardaugh (1986:1) states that language is a system of communication in society. The science that studies language is linguistics. That the writer is interested in conductin g research on the Tagulandang language, especially prefixes. Prefixes are affixes that are attached in front of the basic form (basic words), prefixes are also called initial affixes (Sulchan, 1988:58). Prefix is ​​an affix that is added in front of the base form (Chaer 1994:178). This study does not cover all about prefixes, but it is focused on the form, functions, and meaning of prefixes mu-, nu-, and ni-. In conducting this research, the writer used qualitative approach by implementing the descriptive method. It is base on the empirical phenomena found on the speaker of the language. Data collection was carried out through direct interview and the author was also an informant. This reseach the interviews were guided by a list of Indonesian verbs and sentences, which contained prefixes and were then translated into Tagulandang. the data have collected are interpreted or conclude based on their form and function as the finding of the study. Concering the prefixes in Tagulandang language, it was taken three forms prefixes in Tagulandang language that possess the tenses.
