Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine whether the use of captioned news video improve EFL students’ listening skill or not. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Guru Lombok Kalawat, North Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The subject of the research were twenty-eight students at grade ten-one. The research used test as the instrument to collecting the numeric data. The test consisted of four sections. Each section has five number in different form: true-false, multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank. The research method was quantitative pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test. The treatment given was a captioned news video. The findings were the use of captioned news video improved EFL students’ listening skill. It was shown in the comparison of the mean score of pre-test and post-test. Before the treatment the mean score was 33,75 then after the treatment the mean score got increased became 78,75. It is proved that the treatment was working to the subjects of this research.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the acts of misogyny in the novel Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982, by Cho Nam-Joo. This research uses qualitative research, which is a research technique that stems from inductive thinking patterns that are based on participatory objective observation of a social phenomenon. Data were taken from the novel using a feminist approach. In addition, the researcher used Anderson's modern misogyny analysis to reveal the acts of misogyny experienced by women in the novel Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982. From this research, it can be concluded that there are four acts of misogyny experienced by women in the novel Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982. The acts of misogyny are ambivalence toward women, double standard, discrimination, and dislikeabilty of women.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the process of implementation of Quizizz in learning English basic vocabulary. This research was qualitative research, consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing and verifying conclusions (Miles & Huberman, 1992). The population of this study was students of SD Inpres 4/82 Pandu and samples were taken from one class of five classes consisting of around 20 students. Data was collected starting from observations, instructions for using Quizizz media as well as exercises, interviews, and documentation. The result explained that Media Quizizz as a tool for students to learn basic English vocabulary has a positive impact, namely it can help students use computers, acquire and recognize new English vocabulary. In accordance with the research objective of explaining the implementation of Quizizz media in learning basic English vocabulary, students are able to use Quizizz media well, remember the correct answers, and gain knowledge in increasing fifth grade students' basic English vocabulary.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using song media on increasing students' vocabulary in the English subject for Class VII students at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano. This research uses a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest design. This research was carried out at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano. The research sample was class VII, totaling 5 students. The pretest and posttest were given as research instruments, with a total of 18 questions. The research results show that the use of song media can increase students' vocabulary. This statement is proven by the students' posttest average score (74.38) with a standard deviation of 13.37 which is greater than the pretest average score (41.06) with a standard deviation of 6.35. Apart from that, the results of the hypothesis test show that the T-test value (4.039) is greater than the T-table (2.131). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of song media is effective in increasing the English vocabulary of class VII students at SMP Negeri 8 Satu Atap Tondano.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the E-learning method can be effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text with WhatsApp Application. This research was conducted in class X MIA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Buko in the academic year of 2020/2021. This study used one group-pretest-postest design of research with the data analysis was the frequency distribution of scores, mean and standard deviation. The questions from the pretest and posttest used the type of multiple-choice questions with questions about the descriptive text. From this result, it was found that the mean of posttest Y = 7.8 with standard deviation Sy = 0.79 was higher than the mean score at pretest X = 5.33 with standard deviation Sx = 0.89. It means that students' reading comprehension in the descriptive text was higher after treatment at posttest than pretest. So the researcher concluded that the application of the E-learning method through WhatsApp application was effective in optimizing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text.

Abstract

It is good if English has been introduced since childhood to Indonesian children so that it will not become a frightening specter for them later. In the 2013 curriculum, elementary schools do not have English as a subject, because English has always been a local content subject. However, the obstacle in teaching English is that there are still many elementary school students who are not interested in this subject. The reason is that English is a new language for them and they don't have sufficient vocabulary mastery. Because of that, during English lessons, the teacher teaches only a few students who pay attention, there are many students who play, they feel bored and unenthusiastic when learning English. This was faced by students of the SD GP in Raanan Baru Village, Motoling District, causing them to be unenthusiastic and less creative when it came to English lessons. Therefore, teachers must pay attention to learning models that are appropriate to their goals, not boring but can motivate students and attract their attention, namely choosing learning media can help improve vocabulary mastery. Therefore, in this study, the writer used Visual media pop-up book to improve English vocabulary mastery of the students of SD GP Raanan Baru. The results of this study showed a significant difference, namely the results of the post-test were better than the pre-test as evidenced by the average post-test (T2) score of 71.2 with a standard deviation of 13.5, while the average value of the pre- test (T1) is 30 and the standard deviation is 11.1

Abstract

This study set out to find out how participants at The Bridge Education Manado felt about task-based learning (TBL) as a teaching strategy. The poll findings showed that participants generally agreed, highlighting their favorable opinions of TBL's efficiency in fostering student-centered and interesting language learning experiences that promotes a laid-back learning environment where learners' needs and interests are engaged. They acknowledged how language skills were included into TBL, highlighting how well it covered lesson retrieval and made it easier to remember earlier classes and resources as well as to improve language learning experiences and valued their significance and relevance to the actual world. These favorable opinions highlight the usefulness of TBL as a method of instruction that adheres to the fundamentals of communicative language learning and promotes successful language learning outcomes. It is clear from the survey results that TBL is well-liked by students at The Bridge Education Manado. These findings have effects on how the institution teaches languages. First and foremost, it is essential to keep supporting TBL as a pedagogical strategy and to offer ongoing assistance and chances for professional growth to teachers so they can use TBL techniques in the classroom. They would better comprehend TBL ideas, techniques, and material production as a result of this. Collaboration among educators can also encourage the sharing of creative TBL implementation ideas and best practices. Additionally, getting regular input from students can help to enhance TBL practices and better inform instructional design

Abstract

This study’s objective is to find out if the Duolingo Application could aids students to improve their vocabulary mastery especially adjective. This research is quantitative and using pre-test and post-test design through a written test. The subject of this study were 31 students from SMP Negeri 1 Manganitu class 8 B. According to the data obtained, the mean Pre-Test score is 43,32, with the greatest Pre-Test score is 83 and the lowest is 10, and the highest Post-Test score is 97 and the lowest is 63, and the Post-Test’s average score is 79.80. Significant improvements can be noted in this data, and it can be concluded that the use of duolingo application successful for increase students’ vocabulary mastery
