Abstract

Mental health and disability are crucial issues that directly impact the quality of life in society. The Mental and Physical Disability Task Force of Geger Subdistrict plays a strategic role as patient companions; however, they still face challenges due to limited therapeutic communication skills. This community service project aims to enhance the capacity of the task force through socialization, interactive discussions, and practical simulations. Program evaluation was conducted through needs observation and monitoring throughout the implementation. Results showed a significant increase in the task force's knowledge regarding the principles of empathy, feeling validation, and active listening, as well as the mastery of techniques for managing hallucinations and delusions. Furthermore, there were positive behavioral changes, including increased confidence, patience, and composure when dealing with patients. This training proved effective in strengthening the role of the task force as social change agents to create an inclusive, supportive, and stigma-free community environment for individuals with both mental and physical disabilities.

Abstract

Academic motivation provided an important role in students’ academic success and career preparation; however, many university students experience motivational decline due to uncertainty about future career pathways. This study examined the effect of alumni sharing sessions on academic motivation and career-related outcomes among undergraduate students at Universitas Andalas. A quantitative pre–post design was applied involving 44 undergraduate students who participated in an alumni sharing session. Data were collected using measures of academic motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, job-search intention, and perceived study–work relevance. Descriptive analysis and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were conducted to examine changes before and after the intervention. The results showed no statistically significant change in overall academic motivation. However, significant improvements were found in intrinsic motivation and identified regulation, accompanied by a significant decrease in amotivation. Career decision-making self-efficacy increased significantly after the session, while job-search intention and study–work relevance demonstrated positive directional changes. Participants also rated the alumni sharing session as beneficial for clarifying career direction and strengthening learning relevance. These findings suggest that alumni sharing sessions contribute meaningfully to strengthening specific dimensions of academic motivation and enhancing career readiness among university students.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines how Islamic da’wah functions as both a spiritual and socio-cultural force in developing sustainable religious tourism at Mbah Nur Walangsanga’s Shrine in Pemalang, Indonesia. The research aims to uncover how faith-based activities, community participation, and cultural preservation intertwine to create a religious tourism model that aligns with Islamic values while supporting local development. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The primary informants consisted of shrine caretakers, religious leaders, and local visitors. Data interpretation employed thematic coding to connect two conceptual frameworks: the seven principles of Sapta Pesona tourism (safety, order, cleanliness, beauty, comfort, friendliness, and memorable experience) and the core elements of da’wah (preacher, audience, message, method, and impact). Findings: The results reveal that the shrine serves as an active center of religious learning and community engagement. Da’wah activities such as communal dzikr, Quran recitation, and the annual haul celebration strengthen both faith and social harmony. However, environmental management and cleanliness remain areas requiring improvement to achieve holistic sustainability. Significance: This study contributes to the growing discourse on Islamic tourism by demonstrating that da’wah can act as a cultural mechanism for sustainable destination development. It emphasizes the need for collaborative governance between local caretakers and policymakers to balance spiritual authenticity with responsible tourism practices, providing a replicable model for other faith-based heritage sites in Southeast Asia.
