Abstract

Banyak mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal perhitungan larutan penyangga. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan Pengaruh Pemahaman Konsep Asam dan Basa terhadap Kemampuan Penyelesaian Soal di Kalangan Mahasiswa Jurusan Kimia Universitas Negeri Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan rancangan eksperimen pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah sebagian Mahasiswa/i jurusan Kimia di Universitas Negeri Medan. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Pre-Experiment Design dengan model desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan ada pengaruh Pemahaman Konsep Asam dan Basa terhadap Kemampuan Penyelesaian Soal di Kalangan Mahasiswa Jurusan Kimia Universitas Negeri Medan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman siswa terhadap materi struktur atom dan sistem periodik unsur serta hubungannya dengan minat belajar siswa. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan populasi siswa kelas X di salah satu SMA negeri. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 100 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi tes objektif untuk mengukur pemahaman konsep dan angket minat belajar siswa. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif berupa persentase, rata-rata, dan standar deviasi, serta uji korelasi Pearson untuk melihat hubungan antara minat belajar dengan tingkat pemahaman siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki tingkat pemahaman sedang terhadap struktur atom dan sistem periodik unsur. Selain itu, ditemukan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara minat belajar dengan pemahaman siswa. Semakin tinggi minat belajar siswa, semakin baik pula pemahamannya terhadap materi. Temuan ini menunjukkan pentingnya pengembangan strategi pembelajaran yang tidak hanya fokus pada penguasaan konsep, tetapi juga mampu meningkatkan minat belajar siswa agar tercapai hasil belajar yang optimal dalam pembelajaran kimia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan penerapan Student Centered Learning (SCL) menggunakan metode Certainty of Response Index (CRI) model Two-Tier, yang melibatkan soal dan tingkat keyakinan mahasiswa terhadap pemahaman materi Kimia Unsur. Penelitian dilakukan pada delapan submateri, yaitu golongan IA (6%), golongan IIA (9%), golongan VIIA (13%), golongan VIIIA (13%), unsur periode 3 (16%), unsur periode 4 (6%), ion kompleks (9%), dan senyawa kompleks (19%). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa senyawa kompleks memiliki tingkat miskonsepsi tertinggi, sedangkan golongan IA dan unsur periode 4 terendah. Pendekatan SCL terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dasar, tetapi diperlukan strategi pembelajaran tambahan untuk mengurangi miskonsepsi pada submateri tertentu, sehingga kualitas pembelajaran kimia unsur dapat ditingkatkan secara menyeluruh

Abstract

Thinking creatively is a crucial higher-order skill that students must acquire when they graduate from university. This necessitates lecturers designing and developing learning processes that actively engage students while fostering their creative thinking abilities. This study aims to develop and validate general chemistry teaching materials on organic compounds and reactions using the PjBL-STEM model and evaluate their effectiveness in improving students' creative thinking skills. The study employed the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. The teaching materials were designed as comprehensive books that adhered to the PjBL-STEM framework. Effectiveness was measured by analyzing improvements in students’ creative thinking abilities through quantitative testing. The results demonstrate that the PjBL-STEM-based teaching materials are valid and feasible for implementation. Their effectiveness in enhancing students' creative thinking abilities was statistically significant (t-count = 32.488; p = 0.000), with an average improvement of 42.725 ± 8.317. The development of PjBL-STEM-based teaching materials offers a valuable tool for chemistry education, effectively promoting creative thinking skills among students. This approach provides a practical framework for lecturers to design innovative, student-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tingkat pemahaman kognitif mahasiswa Pendidikan Kimia terhadap materi stoikiometri melalui pengerjaan soal pilihan ganda. Materi stoikiometri dipilih karena menuntut penguasaan konseptual sekaligus keterampilan numerik dalam menyelesaikan persoalan kuantitatif kimia. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan sampel sebanyak 20 mahasiswa dan instrumen berupa 10 soal pilihan ganda yang menguji berbagai aspek penting seperti hukum dasar kimia, konsep mol, identifikasi reaktan pembatas, dan perhitungan rendemen reaksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata yang diperoleh mahasiswa adalah 6,3 dari 10, dengan variasi tingkat penguasaan antar individu. Lima soal dikategorikan mudah, tiga soal sedang, dan dua soal tergolong sulit. Selain itu, analisis korelasi menunjukkan adanya keterkaitan antar soal yang mengukur konsep serupa, sekaligus mengungkap beberapa soal yang perlu direvisi karena rendahnya daya beda. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pengembangan pembelajaran kontekstual dan asesmen formatif berbasis analisis data untuk meningkatkan kualitas pemahaman stoikiometri mahasiswa.

Abstract

Problem Based Learning and Discovery Learning are models that can increase motivation and learning outcomes of Macromedia Flash-based students on chemical equilibrium materials. The instruments used in this study are test instruments with a cognitive level of C3-C5 and non-test instruments of learning motivation questionnaires. This study aims to: 1) To determine the differences in learning outcomes with the PBL and DL models; and 2) To find a linear and significant relationship between motivatIon and student learning outcomes. The sample was 64 students of class XI MIPA 1 and MIPA 2 who were taken using random sampling techniques. Data analysis using a two-party t-test and a correlation test. The results: 1) There were differences in chemistry learning outcomes of students who were using the PBL and DL models. Where student learning outcomes obtained PBL model (18,219±2,268) and student learning outcomes using the DL model (16,438±2,327) with tvalue (3,101) > ttable (2.00) and a sig value (0.003)< sig(0.05). 2) There is a linear and significant correlation between motivation and student learning outcomes where in the PBL model obtained r count (0.773) > r table (0.349) and dl model obtained rcount (0.770) > r table (0.349) with sig(0.000) value < sig (0.05).

Abstract

Chemistry learning on molecular shapes remains challenging due to the abstract and three-dimensional nature of the concept, while existing learning media often fail to provide interactive visualization. This study aims to develop and evaluate an Augmented Reality (AR)-based mobile learning media to improve students’ understanding of molecular geometry. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model through stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The developed AR media visualizes 3D molecular models that can be manipulated via smartphones. Expert validation results indicated that the media was highly feasible, while student trials showed significant improvements in learning outcomes (N-Gain = 0.65) and motivation. The findings suggest that AR technology effectively supports the comprehension of abstract chemical concepts and offers an innovative solution for technology-integrated learning in 21st-century classrooms.

Abstract

This study used a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach with 25 purposively selected students divided into two experimental classes. Experimental Class 1 learned acid-base material using Problem Based Learning (PBL), while Experimental Class 2 used Discovery Learning (DL), both assisted by learning videos. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to measure learning outcomesand motivation. Results showed average post-test scores of 82.00 for PBL and 76.40 for DL. Students with high motivation scored higher in both models (PBL: 74.27; DL: 74.36) compared to those with low motivation. A significant linear relationship was found between motivation and learning outcomes in both learning models.

Abstract

In stoichiometry learning process, mostly educators focus on calculations. Students are not invited to think more critically about stoichiometry application in life. This constraint makes teachers have to develop new learning models, including Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) model, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) based on chemical literacy. This study aims to develop general chemistry teaching materials on stoichiometry using IBL and STEM models based on chemical literacy that are feasible (valid) and capable of improving students' LOTS and HOTS abilities. The development model used is the ADDIE model, with research subjects of 34 students. The result shows that stoichiometry teaching materials using the IBL STEM model based on chemical literacy are valid (feasible) to be applied in learning with an average score of 4.42 for the material aspect and 4.55 for the design aspect. The developed teaching materials have been proven to significantly improve students’ LOTS and HOTS abilities.

Abstract

Analysis of Student Learning Outcomes in View of Mathematical Ability and Ability Chemistry Class XI Science Students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Proyek Univa Medan on Buffer Solution Material.The aim of this research is to determine the mathematical abilities and analytical abilities of students in class XI IPA Madrasah Aliyah Swasta (MAS) Proyek Univa Medan on Buffer Solutions material. This type of research is cause and effect research. The data collected was in the form of mathematical ability test instruments, chemical analysis ability tests and student learning outcomes tests based on Low Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) and High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The results of the analysis show that students have an average mathematical ability of 64.00 and an average student analytical ability of 63.24. Student chemistry learning outcomes in buffer solution material have an average of 47.00. Analysis of students' answer sheets on learning outcomes tests shows that students do not have good mathematical skills and analytical skills, shown by a percentage of 57%. This data also shows that students' difficulties with buffer solution material are due to students not understanding chemical concepts. DOI: 10.23960/jppk.v12.i3.23.13
