Abstract

Padengo Village in West Limboto District, Gorontalo Regency, is rich in natural resources and cultural heritage, but faces challenges in human resource development. Most residents work in the agriculture and livestock sectors with low levels of education, with many having only completed primary education or no schooling at all. To address this issue, the INTEGRALO (Internalization of Local Values) program was introduced, combining digital-based English learning with local wisdom to improve language skills and strengthen cultural identity. This program encourages active community participation by utilizing technology to make learning more engaging and contextual. As a result, residents are able to process corn into chips with simple packaging, compile a Local Wisdom Pocket Book as a cultural archive, and manage a village website, which is now run by youth and officials after training. In the area of social education, teenagers learned about the dangers of early marriage, while children learned about bullying. Student involvement also strengthened academic relationships with the community. Overall, the Thematic KKN II Program has had a tangible impact on Padengo Village, from improving the local economy, cultural preservation, digital literacy, and educating the younger generation.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of using QR Code - Puzzle, a puzzle combined with a QR code developed as a learning medium, in improving the English speaking ability of students at SMP Negeri 2 Kwandang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically a single group design with pre- and post-tests. A total of 29 students from class VIII-4 participated in this study. The instrument used was an oral essay test consisting of 9 questions, which focused on narrative text material. After six meetings integrating QR Code puzzles with Recount Text material, the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a Z value of -4.733 and Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) .001. Since the p-value was 0.05, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and it can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. This shows that QR Code puzzles significantly improve students' speaking ability. These findings suggest that the integration of QR Code - Puzzle in English language learning can provide interesting, interactive, personalized, and effective support to improve speaking ability. Among the five assessed speaking components—pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension—comprehension showed the highest improvement, followed by pronunciation. These results suggest that the integration of QR Code–Puzzle fosters an engaging, interactive, and effective learning environment that enhances students’ overall speaking proficiency and specific linguistic competencies, particularly comprehension and pronunciation.

Abstract

Karawo embroidery represents an emblematic cultural heritage of Gorontalo Province, celebrated for its distinctive aesthetic qualities, intricate craftsmanship, and profound philosophical values. Nevertheless, despite supportive regulations, such as Gorontalo Provincial Regulation No. 4 of 2017 and the formal designation of Karawo Day, artisans continue to face persistent challenges related to generational continuity, branding, and the integration of modern technology. These issues are evident among the women’s Karawo artisan group in Bongohulawa Village, Bongomeme District, which holds considerable potential but remains underdeveloped due to constraints in design innovation, business management, legal status, and digital marketing capacity. To respond to these challenges, a structured program was implemented to foster women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) producing custom 3D Karawo through entrepreneurship and digitalization. The program encompassed socialization activities, intensive training in both manual and digital motif design using the Crosti application with 3D innovations, MSME management, 3D Karawo production, and business legalization. It also incorporated technology adoption in production and digital marketing through social media, online marketplaces, and Google Sites-based branding platforms, followed by mentoring, evaluation, and sustainability planning focused on network building and long-term marketing strategies. The results are substantial: ten new patterns emerged, 80 percent of participants mastered Crosti digitalization, business registrations and partnerships were secured, branded prototypes were produced, e-commerce accounts and online catalogs were launched, and an interactive digital platform was developed.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the specific obstacles encountered by English Language Education students at Gorontalo State University (UNG) in developing their speaking proficiency. The study employed a qualitative approach, utilizing questionnaires (Likert scale) and semi-structured interviews with 4th-semester students. The findings revealed that students face multi-faceted challenges categorized into Linguistic, Personal, Environmental, and Social problems. The dominant obstacles were Linguistic Problems (81% agreement), driven primarily by Mother Tongue Interference and difficulties in choosing appropriate words and maintaining fluency. Personal Problems (70.4%), particularly anxiety and hesitation, were also highly significant, hindering active participation due to the fear of negative evaluation. Environmental Problems (77.4%) highlighted issues with the Teaching Method and limited opportunities for spontaneous speaking practice. Social Problems (67.9%) centered on the fear of committing mistakes and criticism from peers. The research concludes that speaking challenges in this context stem from a strong interplay between linguistic deficits and affective factors. Therefore, effective intervention must address both vocabulary/grammar mastery and psychological support by creating a highly communicative and anxiety-reducing learning environment.
