Abstract

Snacks for school-age children are important for meeting daily nutritional needs, but both excess and deficiency of nutrients can affect children's growth and development. This study aims to develop a healthy snack based on Binto' Toeng flour (Barbinto) and to test its acceptability and nutritional content. The research was conducted using an experimental design with a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) from April to June 2024, involving the preparation of gude bean flour, the production of Barbinto, organoleptic testing, and nutritional analysis. The organoleptic test showed that the control formulation had the highest preference score from both trained panelists and consumer panelists, with mean values of 5.23 and 5.80, respectively. Among the three experimental formulations, the one with 10% gude bean flour had the highest mean score of 5.2 and 5.05. Nutritional analysis indicated an increase in protein, fiber, ash, Vitamin A, and iron content, although there were decreases in carbohydrate, fat, water, Vitamin C, and zinc levels. Barbinto is expected to become a healthy snack option for schoolchildren, but innovations are needed to reduce the off-flavor in the product.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the common health problems worldwide, where there are around 1.62 billion people in the world suffering from anemia, or around 24.8% of the global population. This activity aims to provide education about anemia to adolescent girls at MTS Madani, Gowa Regency, through an interactive anemia literacy approach and health checks to detect anemia conditions early. This approach includes a series of structured stages, starting from pre-test, initial socialization, counseling, interactive discussion, health screening, to evaluation. The results obtained in the pre-test showed that 56.7% of respondents had sufficient knowledge about anemia, while in the post-test, this figure increased to 60.8%. Although there was a significant increase (P =0.000), a small percentage of respondents still had insufficient knowledge after attending the education, although the percentage was slightly lower in the post-test (39.2%) compared to the pre-test (43.3%). This suggests that the education provided can increase community literacy about anemia, but there is a need to continue to improve the quality and methods of counseling to achieve a more even level of understanding.

Abstract

Introduction: The complexity of stunting reduction interventions cannot be addressed by the government alone. The state appreciates contributions from all stakeholders, including the community. The Foster Parents for Stunting Children (BAAS) program provides a platform for stakeholder participation in accelerating stunting reduction. As a relatively new program, a review is needed to assess its impact. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the BAAS program in Takalar Regency in 2023. Methods: This study uses quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis was conducted to determine how much the success measure of the BAAS program based on the target approach (output). In this study, the test used was the Wilcoxon signed rank test to see the impact (outcome) of how significant the program was to reduce the prevalence of stunting. Results: There is a statistically significant difference between the Z-score TB/U and BB/U before and after the BAAS program with a mean Z-score TB/U before the program of -2.78 and BB/U of -1.83 and a mean Z-score TB/U after the program of -0.40 and BB/U of -0.91. Based on the p-value of Z-score TB/U and BB/U showed a very small value for Z-score TB/U of 0.000 (<0.05). and BB/U of <0.001. This suggests that the program is effective for improving nutritional status and can reduce stunting and wasting in Takalar District. Conclusion: The BAAS Program successfully demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the nutritional status of children in Takalar District. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test results also showed a statistically significant difference between the Z-score values before and after the program with a p value <0.05, confirming that the BAAS Program is effective in improving nutrition and reducing stunting in Takalar District. BAAS is an effective intervention model with the potential for replication and expansion, serving as a reference for sustainable and inclusive community-based stunting prevention policies.

Abstract

Irritant Contact Dermatitis is an immunological local inflammatory response of the skin characterized by redness and swelling after exposure to irritants such as solvents, detergents, and sawdust. This study aims to determine the relationship between age, gender, length of contact, personal hygiene, and nutritional status with symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis in seaweed farmers, using quantitative methods and cross-sectional study design on 139 respondents who work as seaweed farmers in Seppong Village, North Belopa District, which were selected using random sampling techniques using questionnaires and then analyzed using chi-square. The findings revealed significant associations between symptoms of irritant contact dermatitis and the following variables: age (p-value = 0.005), gender (p-value = 0.003), duration of contact (p-value = 0.006), length of service (p-value = 0.003), and personal hygiene (p-value = 0.002). In contrast, nutritional status was found to be unrelated (p-value = 0.147). The conclusion of this research is that age, gender, length of contact, length of service, and personal hygiene have a strong influence on irritant contact dermatitis, so it is recommended that seaweed farmers pay attention to personal health by maintaining personal hygiene and also avoiding direct contact with irritants by using complete and standard PPE

Abstract

Mbojo farmers are at high risk of suffering from Diabetes Mellitus (DM) due to hard work and a diet high in carbohydrates. However, the incidence of DM among them is relatively low thanks to the tradition of using the Nyale seaworm (Eunice sicilliensis) for prevention and treatment. This research aims to uncover these traditional practices in Parado District, West Nusa Tenggara, in 2024. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The informants consisted of six people who were selected through purposive sampling. The results of the study showed that DM prevention was carried out by consuming fresh Nyale worms during mass spawning in the Nyale smell tradition. This tradition involves prayer and prayer together, followed by the taking of Nyale on the 9th day of the Hijri month. Treatment is carried out by drying, punching, and applying Nyale to the wound of DM sufferers. These findings show the potential of local traditions as a preventive measure and natural treatment. The implications include the development of DM prevention programs, increasing access to health services, occupational health education, and improving the work environment. Researchers recommend further studies to explore the benefits of Nyale worms as a candidate for diabetes drugs, while supporting the development of natural ingredients in modern medicine

Abstract

Nurse performance is an important factor in supporting the quality of health services in hospitals. One of the aspects that can affect nurse performance is the compatibility between individuals and organizations or Person-Organization Fit. This study aims to analyze the influence of Person-Organization Fit on the performance of nurses at Thalia Irham Hospital, Gowa Regency. This type of research is quantitative with an ex-post facto approach. The population in this study is all nurses working at Thalia Irham Hospital, with a sample of 68 people determined through total sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability. The variables studied included Person-Organization Fit as an independent variable and nurse performance as a dependent variable. The data analysis technique uses a simple linear regression test to determine the influence between the two variables. The results of the analysis showed that Person-Organization Fit had a positive and significant effect on nurse performance. This is proven by a calculated t value of 4.243 which is greater than the t of the table of 1.668 and a significant value of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the level of compatibility between individuals and organizations (Person-Organization Fit), the better the performance of nurses at Thalia Irham Hospital, Gowa Regency. Abstract

Previous studies have highlighted a persistent high prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in rural areas, often attributed to inadequate nutritional intake and limited access to health interventions, yet few have rigorously evaluated targeted supplementation programs in this context. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the iron supplementation program (Tablet Tambah Darah/TTD) in increasing hemoglobin levels and reducing anemia prevalence among adolescent girls in the Somba Opu health center area, Gowa. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-posttest approach was employed, involving adolescent girls aged 12–18 years. The intervention consisted of routine iron supplementation and education on healthy dietary and lifestyle practices. The results demonstrated a substantial decrease in anemia prevalence: among junior high school students, anemia rates declined from 48.10% in 2023 to 26.50% in 2024, and among senior high school students, from 41.60% to 26.10% over the same period. These findings indicate that the TTD program significantly contributed to improved hemoglobin levels and reduced anemia rates in the target population. The implications underscore the importance of structured supplementation and health education programs for adolescent girls in rural settings to address nutritional deficiencies and promote overall well-being.

Abstract

Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by excess body fat, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, bone disorders, reproductive issues, and cancer, while also affecting quality of life, including sleep and mobility. According to WHO, the prevalence of overweight children and adolescents aged 5–19 years increased from 8% in 1990 to 20% in 2022. Recent data from the Ministry of Health in 2023 shows a high prevalence of central obesity among those aged 15–24 years, with 8.3-9.2% in males and 23.4-24.7% in females. This quantitative research employs an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, using SPSS with the Chi-Square test to identify the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with the incidence of obesity among MTS students in Gowa Regency. Results indicate no significant relationship between dietary patterns (FFQ and IDDS) and obesity incidence, with p-values of 0.895 and 0.066, respectively. Similarly, physical activity showed no significant relationship with BMI, with a p-value of 0.056. Future studies should consider expanding variables to include factors influencing students' dietary patterns and physical activity, and conduct in-depth analyses using multiple regression.

Abstract

The WHO reports that the global prevalence of adolescent obesity has exceeded 20%. This condition emphasizes the importance of promotional interventions through nutrition education in Islamic schools that are prone to unbalanced diets and limited physical activity. This community service activity was carried out at Insan Cendekia Syekh Yusuf High School on September 19, 2025, involving 49 students in grades XI and XII. The activity methods included a pre-test, interactive nutrition education, provision of healthy food, and a post-test. The results of the paired t-test showed a significant effect of nutrition education on increasing student knowledge, with the average score increasing from 17.47 to 24.82 (p < 0.001). These findings reinforce the importance of nutrition education in Islamic schools as a preventive strategy. Thus, this community service activity proved to be effective in improving adolescents' understanding of obesity and is recommended to be implemented continuously with the support of schools to shape healthy living behaviors.
