Abstract

Early marriage is still a common phenomenon in Indonesia. This phenomenon is motivated by various factors such as social, economic and cultural. This study aims to examine the role of cultural factors on the occurrence of early marriage in Indonesia. The culture proxyed by two forms, first, ethnicity background in the household and second, the matchmaking process. The analysis used Indonesia Life Survey (IFLS) data in 2014 with logistic model and ordinary least square (OLS). Results show that ethnic background has a very important role in influencing early marriage. Children from Javanese, Sundanese, Madurese, Sasak and Betawi ethnic have a tendency to marry earlier than other tribes. The study also proves that matchmaking process is a significant factor that encourages early marriage. Despite the fact that Bali Province has an excellent level of food security, it does not necessarily mean that all individuals in the region have equal accesses to food. Considerable challenges may arise from both supply and demand sides. The objectives of this research are to identify the effect of social capital on household food security in Bali Province and to examine the various forms of social capital with local wisdom that affect household food security in Bali Province. This research uses primary data collected under the purposive nonrandom sampling method. The research objectives were achieved by employing multiple linear regression analyses. The analysis variable is social capital as variable of interest while also taking into consideration several control variables in forms of individual characteristics and household characteristics. The results show that social capital has an effect on food security as an indicator of household welfare. The identification of social capital with local wisdom of households in Bali Province serves as a reference for alternative approaches in achieving food security in Bali Province.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines how social capital affects the well-being of individuals in Indonesia. Happiness determinants use several aspects of social capital at the same time: trust, information channels, civic participation, especially political participation. In addition, this estimation also takes into account other socio-demographic factors. The researchers found that trust, information channels, and political participation have a significant impact on the well-being of Indonesian. Individual trust and sociable gatherings to leave a child to a close-neighbor within a few hours have a positive effect on the individual’s well-being. By using IFLS data, a logistic model is used to test whether some indicators of social capital affect individual’s well-being. A positive correlation between social capital and happiness may suggest that public policies toward increasing social capital both at the individual and aggregate level may have complementary effects on raising individual’s well-being. It is important to support the government`s efforts in improving the community’s happiness which in turn can encourage development policies` effectiveness.

Abstract

The Village Credit Institution (LPD) is a traditional-based financial institution that has proven to be an important element in the economy of rural communities in Bali. During the last two decades, LPDs in various traditional villages have shown good development, but in some traditional villages there are still many LPDs that have not developed as expected, one of which is characterized by an unhealthy status or high NPL. One of them is the Tegallinggah Traditional Village LPD which is located in Bedulu Village, Blahbatuh District, Gianyar Regency. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide training and assistance in credit analysis for the Tegallinggah Traditional Village LPD. The method used is through lectures, discussions, training, and mentoring. The result of this activity is the increasing understanding of the Tegallinggah Traditional Village LPD managers regarding credit analysis. In addition, the Tegallinggah LPD manager has also been able to carry out credit analysis more carefully and in accordance with applicable standards. This community service activity has been carried out to provide education and training on credit analysis so that it is expected to reduce the NPL of the Tegallinggah Traditional Village LPD. After the implementation of activities related to efforts to reduce NPL, it is necessary to carry out activities to improve LPD performance. These activities include the dissemination of various services that can be provided by LPD, including education on the use of benefits, so that the benefits can be felt on the local community's economy.
