Abstract

Globalization has made the meeting of values and cultures among nations unavoidable. This globalization has blurred national borders, allowing individuals to communicate with others around the world so easily that no country can restrain it. As a result, the exchange of values and cultures can be easily conducted. However, the problem is that often in the era of globalization, Western influences and cultural values more easily affect Eastern countries (including Indonesia). Conversely, values and cultures from the East do not easily influence Western countries. Besides spreading positive values, globalization can also lead to the spread of negative values among Indonesian citizens, such as individualism, hedonism, consumerism, and so on. Therefore, education and citizenship awareness are needed for Indonesian citizens (including those in Malaysia). Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Malaysia have the potential to lose their sense of identity as Indonesians, due not only to globalization but also because they are living in another country. By living long-term in a foreign country, WNI can have their Indonesian values eroded. Therefore, Community Service (PKM) by lecturers from Fisipol Unesa to Malaysia is needed as an effort to provide civic and national education to WNI in Malaysia. The results of this PKM found that after the activities, participants' understanding of nationalism increased, and their sense of pride in Indonesia was also enhanced.

Abstract

Low spatial literacy among students in geography learning is a problem that needs to be addressed through learning media innovation. This research aims to develop Monosida (Monopoly Sidoarjo) media based on local wisdom to improve spatial literacy of SMAN 1 Sidoarjo students. The research used Research and Development method with ADDIE model involving 36 grade X students as research subjects. Data were collected through spatial literacy tests, expert validation questionnaires, learning observations, and interviews. Analysis techniques used descriptive statistics, t-test, and thematic analysis. The results showed that Monosida media obtained a very valid category (4.3/5) from expert validators and was very practical (4.3/5) in implementation. The media was effective in improving students' spatial literacy with an average score increase of 27.8% from pretest to posttest (p<0.001, Cohen's d=2.03). Students' appreciation of local wisdom increased by 43.3%, and active participation in learning rose from 68.8% to 87.5%. The BBM concept (Berkesadaran/Conscious, Bermakna/Meaningful, Menggembirakan/Joyful) proved effective in integrating edutainment with contextual learning. Monosida media can be an innovative solution for geography learning that integrates local wisdom to improve spatial literacy and strengthen students' cultural identity.

Abstract

Low student learning motivation remains a critical issue that hinders academic achievement in Islamic schools. This study investigates the effectiveness of a home visit program in enhancing the learning motivation of tenth-grade students at MA Islamiyah Malo during the 2023/2024 academic year. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed, involving 60 students divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). Data were collected using a validated learning motivation scale and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS 26, including Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, Levene’s test for homogeneity of variances, independent sample t-tests, and paired sample t-tests. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically following Braun and Clarke’s framework. Results revealed a statistically significant increase in learning motivation in the experimental group (20.87%) compared to the control group (4.95%). The intervention demonstrated a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.493, p < 0.001). Thematic analysis highlighted four key dimensions: enhanced personal attention, stronger parental involvement, improved learning environments, and the development of intrinsic motivation. Overall, the findings indicate that home visits are effective in fostering student learning motivation by strengthening family-school communication and optimizing supportive learning contexts that address students’ basic psychological needs.

Abstract

Kesulitan dalam memahami konsep geografi menjadi salah satu penyebab rendahnya hasil belajar siswa kelas XI-1 MA Ihyaul Ulum Cangaan. Data menunjukkan bahwa hanya 35% siswa yang berhasil mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) sebesar 75 pada materi Kedudukan Strategis Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses penerapan media teka-teki silang dan menganalisis peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa pada materi Kedudukan Strategis Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang dilaksanakan dalam dua putaran. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 siswa kelas XI-1 yang terdiri dari 8 siswa laki-laki dan 12 siswa perempuan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes tertulis, observasi aktivitas siswa dan guru, serta dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada penguasaan kosakata siswa, dengan nilai rata-rata meningkat dari 64,5 pada pra putaran menjadi 72,5 pada putaran pertama, dan mencapai 81,5 pada putaran kedua. Persentase ketuntasan belajar juga meningkat dari 30% menjadi 85%, melampaui indikator keberhasilan minimal 75%. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dengan menunjukkan bahwa media teka-teki silang efektif dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata geografis siswa melalui pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan interaktif.
