Abstract

This study was devoted to investigating the preservation of gambang Semarang music through the enculturation process comprehensively. Two basic strategies were employed in examining research problems: using theoretical approaches in traditional music, preservation, and enculturation and a qualitative approach. Further, the target and site comprised gambang Semarang music preservation through the enculturation process among Semarang people. The data were collected from observation, interviews, documentation, and library research. Data validity applied source, time, theory, and researcher triangulation. The collected data and information were then analyzed inductively by relying on an interactive analysis model with the following steps: data reduction, display, and verification. It was suggested that the enculturation process of gambang Semarang music within three generations in the nang nok gambang Semarang group served as the activity of cultural awareness of society, artists, and performers. It was to carry out the enculturation process towards young generations, even children, as the future generations. The approaches to the teaching and learning process were modeling, conditioning, and internalization. Such an enculturation process was proven to function effectively as the cultural mechanism and enculturation model in preserving gambang Semarang music as the cultural identity of Semarangan.

The total sample of the study amounted to 55 people. The variables used are skills, work stress, communication, and motivation as independent variables and employee performance as the dependent variable. Data collection was carried out by questionnaire and then analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis methods. Hypothesis testing used is the simultaneous significance test (F-test) and partial significance test (T-test). The results of the F test of this study indicate that the variable of skills (X1), work stress (X2), communication (X3), and motivation (X4) simultaneously influence employee performance. While the T test shows the variable of skills (X1), work stress (X2), communication (X3) have no partial effect on employee performance, while the motivation variable (X4) has a partial effect on employee performance.

It often attacks adults who work in wet places such as washers, farmers or people who have to wear closed shoes every day, such as scavengers. The purpose of this study was to examine the causality of the incidence of Tinea pedis in scavengers at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) of Jatibarang, Semarang in 2018. This study was done using a type of quantitative research supported by qualitative data obtained from interviews, with a cross sectional approach. The sample used in this study were 78 respondents obtained by using simple random sampling technique. The data collection techniques were done by using interview, observation, and documentation (diagnostic report sheet of a dermatologist). The data analysis in this study was done using Descriptive Statistics, Chi Square and Multiple Logistics Regression tests. The results showed that there was an effect of changing socks used for work (p=0.000), the practice of washing and drying feet after work (p=0.000), the practice of washing shoes after being worn to work (p=0.000), individual characteristics (age (p=0.031), gender (p=0.046), education (p=0.024) and working period  (p=0.020) on the incidence of Tinea pedis among scavengers at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) Jatibarang, Semarang in 2018. The results of the logistic regression showed that the most dominant factors for causing the incidence of Tinea pedis on scavengers at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) Jatibarang, Semarang in 2018 is the practice of washing shoes after being used to work with an adjusted OR or Exp (B) = 45.179. It is expected that the results of this study able to increase the knowledge of scavengers about the risks of work, especially skin disease of Tinea pedis.

Abstract

As a practice, the Polytechnic machining workshop should also be a safe workplace for students. The lack of the manager’s attention in setting the safe way of working and the use of personal protective equipment for the students’ work show the substandard implementation of the occupational health and safety. This study aims to find out a factual management model, analyze the shortcomings, and design a hypothetical model for the Polytechnic machining workshop management characterized by health and safety. Students, lecturers, laboratory assistants, and technicians are directly related to the activities of the Polytechnic machining workshop as data sources. This study implemented research and development methodology, with data collection techniques that include observational studies, interviews, and questionnaires. Using indicators for safe machining workshop management, the result of each indicator shows merely 20% of the expectation. It was concluded that the factual management model to provide a safe workplace for students is still bad. The disadvantage of this management model is the lack of in-depth preparation for implementing occupational health and safety regulations. Therefore, the model still requires a development to become a model of machining workshop management with health and safety character. The success of the implementation of this management model requires leadership support and active participation of all those involved in the students’ practice activities in the Polytechnic machining workshop.

Abstract

In the context of identity, batik is a form of expression of art with unique features that become the identity or may potentially become a cultural identity for either local or national identity. As the capital of Central Java, Semarang has built an identity through batik that depicts Semarang as having a batik culture. The construction of identity in Semarang batik began from searching for local identities by related actors, either personal or communities or organizations, who collectively explore ideas from locality. Locality includes natural, physical, and social-cultural environments. Through creativity in batik art, those ideas are conveyed in innovation and production of distinctive batik that is Semarang-style batik. This distinction represents Semarang locality that forms Semarang identity. The identity that is created as a product of that culture is continuously developed and preserved through enculturation by education in families, schools, and the society.
