Abstract

Using Farmers (Banyuwangi ethnic community) in Kemiren Village uses their ancestral knowledge in utilizing natural resources and the environment so that its sustainability is maintained. This study aims to identify the local knowledge of Using farmers in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi Indonesia which plays a role in preserving their natural resources and environment. The study uses a qualitative approach and the data collection using documentation, interview, and field observation techniques. Data analysis uses methods cross-referenced and repeated information. Local knowledge of Using farmers that used to manage the environment is in the form of values (togetherness, obedience, consensus, fairness and caring), norms (prohibitions/taboo and suggestions in utilizing natural resources), belief (providing labuhan/offerings and selamatan/ritual), and practices in utilizing natural resources. The primary key that plays a role in environmental preservation is a harmonious relationship among farmers.

Abstract

Scientific reasoning and problem-solving have become primary interests in 21st-century education. These skills have an essential role in preparing students to face global competition. This study aims to determine the correlation between scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills of biology students in animal classification and whether scientific reasoning can be used to predict problem-solving skills. The participants were 56 undergraduate students of Biology Education. The scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills of students were assessed with the pre and post-test. A simple linear regression test using the SPSS 16.0 was applied in data analysis. The results showed a p-value of 0.00 < 0.05, so there is a correlation between scientific reasoning and argumentation skills. R-value indicates 0.523, which means a strong correlation. The contribution of scientific reasoning to argumentation skills was 27.3%, while other variables explained the rest.

Abstract

Upaya dalam perkembangan IPTEK dalam pendidikan dapat dilakukan salah satunya dengan memfasilitasi mahasiswa dengan bahan ajar berbasis penelitian. Berdasarkan analisis kebutuhan mahasiswa akan bahan ajar pada materi sistem peredaran darah, dibutuhkan bahan ajar berupa modul. Pengembangan modul dalam penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan modul sistem peredaran darah berbasis inkuiri berdasarkan hasil penelitian diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang telah teruji kelayakan, kepraktisan, dan keefektifannya. Metode dalam pengembangan modul ini menggunakan Research and Development (R&D) yaitu model pengembangan Branch yang terdiri dari Analyze, Design, Development, Ilmplementation and Evaluation. Pengumpulan data penelitian berdasarkan penilaian dari valiadator ahli melalui instrumen validasi, dan subjek uji coba penelitian yaitu mahasiswa IKIP Budi Utomo Malang yang terdiri dari 9 mahasiswa dalam uji coba kelompok kecil dan 23 mahasiswa dalam uji coba kelompok besar melalui instrumen angket. Instrument hasil dari penelitian kemudian di analisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa uji validitas materi diperoleh persentase sebesar 90,2%, hasil validasi pengembangan bahan ajar untuk mahasiswa diperoleh persentase 94,75%, dan 94% untuk modul pegangan dosen, persentase untuk praktisi pembelajaran sebesar 96,6%. Persentase uji coba kelompok kecil yang digunakan di lapangan sebesar 87,04% dan 98,67% untuk uji coba kelompok besar. Berdasarkan hasil validasi oleh ahli materi, pengembangan bahan ajar, dan praktisi lapangan maka dapat disimpulkan modul yang dikembangkan sebagai sumber belajar mahasiswa sangat valid dan sangat layak digunakan.

Abstract

Introduction The purpose of education is directed in accordance with developments in technology, information, and communication. Students are expected to have skills and skills. Understanding concept is the basis for achieving various 21st century. The results of observations indicate understanding of student’s concepts and communications skills is low. The right solution to solve this problem is the application of guided inquiry based on Lesson Study (LS).Method Classroom action research method using a qualitative descriptive approarch based on lesson study in the form of plan, do, see stages.Results The results showed that the implementation of inquiry learning syntax in the first cycle was 98% and increased in the second cycle to 100%. The application of inquiry can increase student’s understanding of concepts by a percentage of 71,75 in the first cycle and increased to 81,3 in the second cycle. Communication skills with a classical average of 81,2 in the first cycle and increased to 84,95 in the second cycle.Conclusions and Recomendations Criteria for the implementation of the inquiry model and lesson study are very accomplished and can improve student’s understanding of concepts and communications skills.Keywords inquiry learning, understanding of concept, communication skills, Lesson Study (LS) ABSTRAK Pendahuluan Tujuan pendidikan diarahkan sesuai dengan perkembangan teknologi, informasi, dan komunikasi. Mahasiswa diharapkan memiliki kecakapan dan keterampilan. Pemahaman konsep merupakan dasar untuk mencapai berbagai keterampilan abad 21. Keterampilan komunikasi merupakan salah satu kecakapan yang harus dimiliki di abad 21. Hasil observasi menunjukkan pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan komunikasi mahasiswa masih rendah. Solusi yang tepat untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini adalah penerapan Inkuiri Terbimbing berbasis Lesson Study (LS). Metode Penelitian tindakan kelas dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif berbasis lesson study berupa tahapan plan, do, see. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlaksanaan sintaks pembelajaran inkuiri pada siklus I sebesar 98% dan meningkat pada siklus II menjadi 100%. Penerapan inkuiri dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa dengan persentase 71,75 pada siklus I dan meningkat menjadi 81,3 pada siklus II. Keterampilan komunikasi dengan rata-rata klasikal sebesar 81,2 pada siklus I dan meningkat menjadi 84.95 pada siklus II. Kesimpulan dan Saran Kriteria keterlaksanaan model inkuiri dan lesson study sangat terlaksana serta dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan komunikasi mahasiswa. Abstract

Keterampilan memecahkan masalah merupakan kecakapan yang memuat beberapa indikator diantaranya: a) defining the problem, b) developing a plan to solve the problem, c) collecting and analyzing information, dan d) interpreting findings and solving the problems. Penerapan model problem solving dengan sintaksnya yang terdiri dari kegiatan mendefinisikan masalah, mendiagnosa masalah, merumuskan alternatif, dan menerapkan strategi pemecahan masalah diharapkan mempu memfasilitasi keterampilan memecahkan masalah pada peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan memecahkan masalah pada mahasiswa setelah diterapkan model problem solving. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu mahasiswa angkatan 2016 Off B Jurusan Biologi UM yang menempuh mata kuliah fisiologi hewan dan berjumlah 32 orang. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) berbasis lesson study dengan 2 siklus. Masing-masing siklus terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen penelitian berupa lembar observasi dan tes. Tes siklus I dan siklus II berbentuk soal essay sebanyak 4 soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada indikator defining the problem dan developing a plan to solve the problem mengalami penurunan dari siklus I ke II, sedangkan indikator collecting and analyzing information dan interpreting findings and solving the problems mengalami peningkatan. Kata kunci: model problem solving, keterampilan memecahkan masalah, PTK berbasis lesson study.

Abstract

Learning aimed to help students undergo the learning process so that effective learning behavior was realized. Effective learning was learning that can produced useful learning and student centered learning. In reality, students in class were still passive, have not been able to expressed their opinion, and were less active in constructing their own knowledge. This showed that learning objectives have not been achieved according to the sixth level of KKNI’s standard. Therefore, this study was conducted using a learning cycle 7E learning model based on lesson study to improve student’s critical thinking skills. The result showed that there had been an increase in student’s critical thinking skills during learning with four lesson study. The improvement of critical thinking skills on the interpretation indicator was 0.03%, inference was 0.03%, analysis was 0.06%, evaluation was 0.28%, explanations were 0.66%, and self-regulation was 0.91%.

Abstract

Scientific reasoning, argumentation, and problem-solving are essential skills in 21st century. They help people solve problems in daily life. This study aimed to investigate the effect of local-based teaching materials on student’s argumentation, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills using Science Project-based Learning (SPjBL). Argumentation skill is a social and dynamic process, involving individuals engaged in thinking, constructing, and critiquing knowledge in science. Scientific Reasoning skills require students to give reasons in the form of opinion or actions and conclusions by using appropriate language to explain what they think and making judgments or decisions based on the produced reasons or evidence. Problem-Solving skill is a process of designing, evaluating, and implementing a strategy to answer questions. In this study, the time series approach was used as a part of the quasi-experimental design with Science Project-based Learning (SPjBL) as the learning model. A total of 29 Biology students of Universitas Negeri Malang participated in this study in August-November 2019 at the Department of Biology of the university. The data was collected using pre-test and post-test instruments which measured scientific argumentation, scientific reasoning, and Problem-solving skill variables. The data analysis was done using ANCOVA test in SPSS 16.0. The results of this study show that there is positive effects of local-based invertebrate and vertebrate materials on scientific argumentation, scientific reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These findings can be used as reference for educator to gain students’ scientific reasoning, argumentation, and problem-solving skills in science classroom through Science Project-based Learning (SPjBL) with the help of local-based teaching materials.

Abstract

This study was conducted to describe students’ perceptions about the genetic course, laboratory experiment, laboratory facilities, and also students’expectations about the development of the virtual laboratory as an alternative experiment in Genetics Courses. A descriptive quantitative method was used in this study. The participants involved were 49 students enrolling in a genetics course at a public university in Banten, Indonesia. Data were collected through a set of questionnaires. To analyze the data,we employed a descriptive quantitative approach in the form of a percentage. The results showed that the genetic course was considered difficult by the students. The reason is that the material is abstract, and the source of learning is difficult to understand. The most commonly used learning media in the lecture is Power Point.Learning strategies are oftenused,i.e.,the discussions and laboratory work in the laboratory. Students need interesting, communicative, and interactive learning media. The student response is enthusiastic about virtual laboratory development. The expected virtual laboratory criteria are can be used offline, looks interesting, easy to operate, and containsaudio-visual.

Abstract

Using the wild plant for consumptino is a knowledge passed down through generations that can be documented for the purposes of futher study. This study aim to document the kind of wlind plant for survival in TNBTS . the method used is descriptive analisis with data collection techniques throuhg in-depth interviews and continued exploration of plants along the route of ascent of mount semeru. Base on the result of in-depth interviews and exploration of found 9 spesiesof plants that can be uses to survival material in TNBTS. Parts of the plants used is the leave. Plants in can be found alonge side the route of travel, the edge of the forets anf in the forest

Abstract

The correlation between students’ information communication technology (ICT) literacy and conceptual knowledge from a gender perspective is essential to understanding the causal effects of student learning. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the relationship between students’ ICT literacy and conceptual knowledge in a genetics course, especially from a gender perspective. This study employed a descriptive research method that used randomized sampling. The instruments used were conceptual knowledge and ICT literacy test sheets. The data were analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlational statistics. The results showed male students have higher ICT literacy than females. Otherwise, male students have a lower conceptual knowledge than females. Furthermore, male students’ ICT literacy and conceptual knowledge showed a strong relationship, while female students showed a weak relationship. The findings support the idea that integrating ICT into genetics curricula might help students develop their ICT literacy and conceptual knowledge more effectively, especially female students.
