Abstract

General background: Children with special needs often face stigma and exclusion, both in society and within their own families, which affects their development and parental well-being. Specific background: In Suka Rahmat Village, East Kutai Regency, many parents struggle with limited knowledge and skills in supporting their children’s growth, leading to delayed detection, inappropriate parenting, and emotional stress. Knowledge gap: While parenting programs have been widely studied, little attention has been given to village-level, cross-sectoral collaborations in strengthening parental competence. Aims: This study investigates the influence of parenting programs on improving parents’ acceptance, understanding, and skills in handling children with special needs, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors of program implementation. Results: Using qualitative descriptive methods with interviews, observations, and documentation, findings reveal that parenting programs foster parental acceptance through honesty, patience, and therapeutic efforts, while enhancing skills in early detection, child stimulation, emotional regulation, and confidence-building. Supporting factors include cross-sectoral collaboration and parental involvement, while challenges stem from limited resources and varying parental awareness. Novelty: The study uniquely highlights the role of cross-sectoral collaboration at the village level in parenting interventions. Implications: These results emphasize the importance of sustainable parenting programs as a community-based strategy to create inclusive, adaptive, and child-centered care for children with special needs.Highlight : Parenting programs improve parents’ acceptance, skills, and confidence in handling children with special needs. Supporting factors include cross-sector collaboration, active parental involvement, and program continuity. Inhibiting factors are limited resources and varying parental understanding. Abstract

Fine motor skill deficits significantly impact academic readiness in preschool children, particularly those at risk for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Traditional interventions often fail to accommodate the unique learning characteristics of children with ADHD, necessitating innovative approaches that integrate multisensory engagement with structured skill development. This study investigated the effectiveness of collage activities using loose parts materials in enhancing fine motor skills among preschool children at risk for ADHD. A classroom action research design following the Kemmis and McTaggart model was employed over four weeks at TK Negeri 1 Sangatta Selatan, Indonesia. Eight children aged 4-5 years with ADHD risk factors participated in two intervention cycles, each comprising two collage sessions using diverse loose parts materials. Fine motor skills were assessed across six domains using structured observation checklists with four-point rating scales. Data collection included quantitative assessments, photographic documentation, and teacher interviews. Substantial improvements were observed across all fine motor domains. Pre-intervention assessment revealed that only 25% of participants achieved competent performance levels (BSH/BSB). Following the two-cycle intervention, 100% of children demonstrated competent fine motor skills across all assessed domains. Participants showed enhanced cutting precision, improved pressure control in material adherence, increased scissor manipulation stability, extended attention spans, greater independence in task completion, and improved creativity with precision. Qualitative observations indicated reduced off-task behaviors and increased peer cooperation. The findings demonstrate that collage activities with loose parts materials effectively address fine motor deficits in children at risk for ADHD. The intervention's success supports loose parts theory and provides evidence for inclusive classroom-based approaches that simultaneously enhance motor competencies and attention regulation. The results have significant implications for early childhood educators seeking practical, evidence-based strategies for supporting diverse learners.

Abstract

This classroom action research investigated the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving advanced reading skills among fifth-grade students with learning difficulties. Seven students at SDN A Muara Bengkal who scored below minimum competency criteria (KKM=70) participated in this study. The research employed Kemmis and McTaggart's cyclical model across two complete intervention cycles, incorporating pre- and post-assessments, systematic observations, and teacher interviews. Data analysis utilized both quantitative methods (descriptive statistics and percentage improvements) and qualitative approaches (thematic analysis of observations and interviews). Results demonstrated substantial improvement in reading achievement, with mean scores increasing from 47.14 at baseline to 63.57 after Cycle I and 72.14 after Cycle II, representing a total gain of 25 points. Five of seven students (71%) achieved or exceeded competency standards, with notable enhancements in critical thinking, collaborative engagement, and academic confidence. However, two students with severe reading disabilities showed minimal progress, indicating that PBL effectiveness varies based on individual learning profiles. The findings suggest that PBL serves as an effective pedagogical approach within multi-tiered inclusive education systems when implemented with culturally relevant content, differentiated scaffolding, and iterative refinement, though intensive individualized interventions remain necessary for students with profound learning difficulties.

Abstract

Inclusive education in early childhood settings requires effective principal leadership, yet empirical evidence on management strategies in developing contexts remains limited. This study examined how a kindergarten principal manages inclusive education in a multicultural, resource-constrained environment. A qualitative case study was conducted at YPPSB Kindergarten, East Kutai, Indonesia, from January to June 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers, special education teachers, and parents, complemented by participant observation and document analysis. Data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña's interactive model. Findings revealed that the principal implemented comprehensive strategies across three dimensions: (1) participatory planning involving multi-stakeholder collaboration and individualized education plan development, (2) collaborative implementation through co-teaching models and differentiated instruction, and (3) systematic sustainability mechanisms including institutionalized inclusion teams, strategic external partnerships, and diversified funding. The principal integrated local cultural values into inclusive practices while establishing formal structures ensuring program continuity. These strategies exemplify transformational and distributed leadership principles, extending inclusive education scholarship into early childhood contexts. The study demonstrates how principals can leverage community partnerships and cultural resources to address implementation challenges in resource-constrained settings, bridging the documented policy-practice gap in inclusive education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of probability learning media for students with visual impairments. The type of research used is quasi-experimental with a quantitative approach and a One Group Pre Test - Post Test Design. The results of the total accumulation in the pre-test, the five participants had an average score of 18.6 with a percentage of 37.2%. Meanwhile, when they got treatment by using probability learning media for Student With Visual Impairment and the post-test is done, the results of the accumulated scores obtained from the five participants are on average 44 with a percentage of 88%. Thus, the average score of the five subjects has positive changes by 25.4 with a percentage of 50.8%. In addition, because the results obtained by T arithmetic are the same as T table, T arithmetic is in the position of the rejection area for Ho with a significance level of 0.01. Therefore, based on these calculations, it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So, the conclusion is that there is strong significant effectiveness in the probability learning media for Student With Visual Impairment.
