Abstract

The advent of the pandemic has prompted changes in the learning motivations of students. This investigation seeks to ascertain how students perceive the relative merits of online and offline modes of learning and their relationship with students' learning motivations. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive methodology. This research design is descriptive with an interview approach, with the objective of eliciting students' perspectives on online and offline learning and their relationship to student learning motivation. The analysis of this study revealed a consensus among the respondents that online learning affords a greater sense of relaxation. Nevertheless, online learning is perceived as a source of boredom and lack of engagement. In contrast, offline learning is associated with a high level of motivation, particularly when students can learn with friends. This negative reaction manifests in students telling stories or engaging in other distracting activities when the teacher presents the learning material. Furthermore, students are easily bored during learning, suggesting that the relaxing experience of online learning has an adverse effect on their attention span in the traditional classroom setting. In light of the students’ perceptions, it is hoped that teachers will be able to create engaging offline learning environments and encourage more student activities with their peers.

Abstract

This research investigates the factors that contribute to students' speaking anxiety and and the strategies they employ to overcome it in the Speaking for Academic Purposes course. Using a qualitative research design, data were obtained through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings highlight four primary factors contributing to speaking anxiety: psychological factors (shyness, fear of making mistakes, and lack of self-confidence), social factors social factors (social pressure and lecturer responses), linguistic factors (limited vocabulary, improper accent, and inaccurate pronunciation), and contextual factors (insufficient preparation and demanding presentation tasks). To address this anxiety, students utilized various strategies: cognitive strategies (preparing materials, developing presentation outlines, memorizing key terms, and simplifying vocabulary through synonyms), affective strategies (controlling emotions, fostering a positive mindset, and incorporating humor) social strategies (participating in small group discussions, seeking peer feedback, and utilizing body language) and metacognitive strategies (practicing independently and setting gradual performance targets). In conclusion, effective strategies can reduce speaking anxiety while enhancing students' performance and confidence in academic speaking.

Abstract

Clean water is water that is used for daily needs and becomes drinking water after being boiled first. The distribution system is a system that is directly related to consumers, which has the main function of distributing water that has met the requirements to all service areas. In addition to the problem of the clean water supply system, the problem of the capacity of the clean water treatment system (IPA) is also an obstacle with the continued growth of the population in the future. The need for clean water that meets health standards continues to increase every year, which is also experienced by Sangatta City which is in line with the increase in population and public awareness of health. Based on the background of this problem, the title of this study is Feasibility Analysis of Investment in the Clean Water System of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Tuah Benua Kutai Timur Sangatta City. The solution method in this calculation for the Feasibility Investment Analysis uses the Net Present Value (NPV) method, the Break Event Point (BEP) method. From the results of the analysis, it was obtained that the NPV value was Rp 29,586,543,082 (NPV> 0). So the investment in developing the production capacity and clean water network of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Tuah Benua, Kaliorang District, is feasible to continue. A positive NPV value or greater than (> 0) indicates that the income is greater than the invested value. The return value is obtained in the 9th year, marked by the accumulation of minus profits becoming positive after the 9th year. This explains that the investment in replacing the clean water distribution network of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Tuah Benua, Kaliorang District is feasible to run, because there is a return on investment as evidenced by the BEP value for 9 years.
