Abstract

Abstract

The process of learning science, especially physics, has often had problems. The problem that often arises so far in the field is how to teach teachers who still use conventional methods. This learning method has not been able to support the science learning process, which causes low science process skills in students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the laboratory-based Blended-Project Based Learning (B-PjBL) model on students' science process skills. The research method used was quasi-experimental with a posttest control group design. The results of the hypothesis test using the t-test showed that the laboratory-based B-PjBL model has a positive effect on students' science process skills.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low problem-solving skills of students in the kinetic theory of gases and the lack of innovation in the use of models in physics learning. Efforts made by researchers to overcome these problems are by applying a laboratory-based PBL learning model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the laboratory-based PBL learning model on students' problem-solving skills on gas kinetic theory material in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Cilimus. The research method used is a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The results show that after the implementation of the laboratory-based PBL model, it is obtained that is tcount > ttable so that H_0 is rejected, can be concluded that there is an influence of the laboratory-based PBL learning model on problem solving skills in gas kinetic theory material in class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Cilimus. Keywords: problem-solving skills, problem based learning, laboratory activities, kinetic gas theory. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i3.pp1017-1029

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of students' science literacy skills on environmental change material at SMA Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya. This research uses quantitative descriptive method. The population of this study was all X grade SMA Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya which amounted to 12 classes. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a total sample of 2 classes consisting of 72 students. Science literacy skills used are based on indicators developed by Gormally. The results of research in the field show that in the sub-indicators of science literacy (1) understanding valid scientific arguments obtained a score of 53.88 included in the deficient category, (2) evaluation of validity sources obtained a score of 57.2. (3) evaluating the use and misuse of scientific information obtained a score of 40.8, including into the category of less, (4) understanding the elements of research villages and how they impact scientific findings / conclusions obtained a score of 46.8 including into the category of less, (5) making graphical representations of data obtained a score of 49.3 including into the category of less, (6) reading and interpreting graphical representations of data obtained a score of 54, (7) solving problems using quantitative skills, including probability and statistics obtained a score of 48.61 including into the deficient category, (8) understanding and interpreting basic statistics obtained a score of 53.47 including into the deficient category, (9) justifying conclusions, predictions and conclusions based on quantitative data obtained a score of 52.7 including into the deficient category. To improve students' science literacy skills, it is necessary to use an effective learning model. One of the models that can be used is problem-based learning based on socio-scientific issues. Abstract

The study’s goals are to find out how the students in class IX-A at MTsN 11 Tasikmalaya’s critical thinking skills and activities improved after using the problem-based learning (PBL) model with the help of multimedia apps on their Android phones and to see how they felt about the model. We conducted this classroom action research in three cycles, utilizing the Kurt Lewin design, which included stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Multiple-choice tests with reasons were used to measure critical thinking skills, while student activity sheets and questionnaires were used to assess student activity and responses. The results showed an increase in student activity, from 60.2% (poor) in cycle I to 78.5% (good) in cycle II and 80.6% (good) in cycle III. An increase in critical thinking skills also occurred, with an N-Gain value of 0.43 (low) in cycle I, increasing to 0.68 (moderate) in cycle II and 0.69 (moderate) in cycle III. There was no significant difference between male and female students. In general, the students’ response to the Android-based multimedia-assisted PBL model was positive, with a score of 80.1%.
