Abstract

A Study to detect the microscopic structure of large intestine (caecum, colon, rectum) ofbali cattle has been carried out. The samples were collected from 20 of bali cattle in Pesanggaran abattoir, Denpasar. The tissue samples were fixed, dehydrated and embeddedin paraffin and 4-5 mm sections. Harris-Haematoxilin-Eosin staining method, using toidentified of histological structure. Microscopic analysis was performed using binocularlight microscope (100 x, 450x). The study showed that the wall of the caecum, colon, andrectum are made up of four layers : mucosae, submucosae, muscularis externa, and serosa. The lined by mucosae ephitelium of simple columnar cells. The thick of mucosaare 29,9 ± 5,0 mm (caecum) 37,5 ± 8,4 mm (colon) and 58,9 ± 9,5 mm (rectum)respectively. The submucosae contain connective tissue and thick of these layerare 54,8 ± 8,8 mm; 21,2 ± 7,1 mm; and 16,5 ± 4,5 mm respectively. The muscularis externaconsists of two layers of smooth muscle inner circular and outer longitudinal. The thick ofthe mucularis externa are 98,5 ± 15,4 mm; 166,9 ± 44,4 mm; and 479 ± 28,6 mmrespectively. The serosa forms the outermost layer with thick 29,5 ± 8,5 mm;20,9 ± 7,6mm; and 12,1 ± 3,6 mm respectively. We observed for the presence richof Goblet cells and few limphatic nodules (Peyer’s patches) but no showed villi.

Abstract

There have been studies of the histological structure of male and female goat skins. The histological structure and histomorphometry were taken from two region of skin, which is the thorax and abdomen. The Samples were collected from 2-3 years old Etawah goat, and than was stained using a HarrisHematoxilin Eosin method. The data were analysis based on the region and sex. The results showed that the histological structure of Etawah cross breed consists of three layers were epidermis, dermis, and hipodermis respectively. The epidermis composed by stratum corneum, granulosum, spinosum, and basal. We were found keratin layer on the surface of epidermis. The dermis consists of papillare and reticulare stratum. That was found many sebaceous glands, sudorifera gland, pili muscle, hair follicles, blood vessels, and collagen fibers. The hypodermis layers of Etawah cross breed females skin mostly consists of the fatty tissue, whereas in males we have found thick and horizontally arranged connective tissue. The skin layer on male Etawah cross breed, thorax region thicker than the abdomen. The region and sex may have an effect on the histology structure and histomorphometry of Etawah cross breed skin.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth rate of length dimension of male and female swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in Central Lombok. This study measured 54 swamp buffaloes (27 male and 27 female) from Central Lombok Regency. The age of buffalo is measured from the age of nine months to 20 months, and each 3 male and female swamp buffalo is measured at the same age. The measurement of body length dimensions carried out every month as many as 18 buffalo consisted of nine male and nine females. So that measurements are made for 3 months. The data obtained were analyzed by multivariant and power regression. The results of the multivariant analysis showed that the growth rate of male buffalo body dimensions was significantly different from the females (P<0.05) in Central Lombok Regency. The results of the power regression analysis showed that the correlation coefficients of each dimension of head, horn, ear, neck, body and male and female swamp buffalo were significantly different (P<0.05). The earliest dimensions of the male buffalo body growth are the dimensions of the head length then followed by body length, tail length, neck length, ear length, and the last is the length of the horn. While the longest dimensions of the female buffalo mud body grow are dimensions of head length, body length and ear length, then followed by tail length, neck length and finally horn length which has a later growth rate.

Abstract

Skin is the largest organ in dogs that serves to overcome the presence of foreign agents both from exogenous and endogenous. One of the health problems on dog skin is dermatitis and can be found in almost all parts of the body. This study aims to observe changes in the histological structure of the skin of male and female dogs suffering from dermatitis on the caudal, dorsum, and abdominal extremities. A total of 24 research samples in the form of skin organs were collected from patients at the Udayana University Animal Hospital Teaching. The results showed that there was no difference (P>0.05), the histological structure of the skin of male and female dogs suffering from dermatitis, both skin from the caudal extremities, dorsum and abdomen. Histological changes found were: parasitic segments, hiperkeratosis, necrosis, degeneration, edema, hyperplasia, infiltration of stratum reticular fat cells, and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Infiltration of inflammatory cells, neutrofils, and macrophages are mostly found in the dermis while basofils are found in the epidermis.

Abstract

The taro white cattle is a unique group cattle with a very small number of population and only can be found at Taro forest at Tegallalang. The taro white cattle population was decreasing and already in critical condition. Breed characterization is a primary step in designing appropriate management and conservation programs. To support the conservation effort, the objective of this study is to assess the phenotypic profiles of the taro white cattle based on the body measurement. Morphometric profiles identification of the taro white cattle was conducted on 24 adult taro white cattle, the measured variables were head length, head width, body height, chest depth, body length, chest width, chest circumference, and hip length. The result showed that the body length, body height, chest width, chest circumference, hip height, head length and head width mean was significantly different between males and females. In contrast, between the chest depth and the hip width of males and females, there was no significant difference. The principal component analysis (PCA) test showed that the first major components were long body size, height, and hip height, while the second major component was a chest depth. The obtained results can use as phenotypic profile of taro white cattle and are important for the future development of conservation and management strategies for taro white cattle breed in order to prevent the loss of biodiversity in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the addition of moringa flour (Moringa oleifera) in the feed to the weight of the liver of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Moringa leaf flour was administered orally in 20 rats divided into 5 treatment groups with 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, 10% and 20% concentration respectively with five replicates for one month. The white mouse was dissected and weighed heavily. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (RAL). The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA (analysis of variance), and continued by Duncan Multiple Range Test. The results obtained were the addition of 20 ml of Moringa oleifera flour in the diet to increase the liver weight of white rat (Rattus norvegicus), while the addition of maize flour 10%, 5% and 2.5% did not affect to the white rat’s (Rattus norvegicus) liver weight.
