Abstract

This study aims to analyze changes in abnormal returns and trading volume Activity (TVA) before and after the announcement of MUI Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 on companies that are targeted for boycott and allegedly affiliated with Israel. The researcher used an event study approach with an event window of 100 days before and 100 days after the announcement of MUI Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 to calculate abnormal returns and trading volume activity. The analysis step carried out in this study is to test the normality of the data first to see if the data has been distributed normally or not, then to test the hypothesis. For normally distributed data, the Paired Sample T-test will be used and the normally undistributed data will use Wilcoxon Signed Rank. The results of this study showed that there was no significant difference in abnormal returns before and after the boycott, but there was a significant difference in trading volume activity before and after. These findings reflect that the boycott has no significant impact and the impact of the boycott is only temporary. However, the action reacted to changes in market sentiment due to the boycott that affected the trading of shares of the boycotted target companies.

Abstract

This paper examines IMRAD, synthesis, and hedging within expert academic writing to encourage a world discussion platform and to enhance manuscript writing for internationally reputable journals. The research utilized 25 Quartile-1 Scopus-indexed articles from 25 scholarly journals from 2022 and 2023 publications across different subject areas. Through online searching, observation, and interpretive techniques, the patterns of IMRAD, its synthesis, and the use of hedging within the synthesis were analyzed and identified as crucial elements for creating a manuscript that serves as a world discussion platform. Based on the systematic observation and interpretation of the 25 data sources, the research findings were discussed across three aspects: the IMRAD pattern, synthesis, and hedging. The findings revealed that symmetrical IMRAD patterns were rarely employed by authors of Quartile-1 Scopus-indexed journals, with various patterns being applied and the largest proportion focusing on different aspects. Synthesis was utilized by all authors of the 25 journal articles, and hedging or cautious language was used by most authors. Authors worldwide may benefit from the results of this research when writing manuscripts to be submitted to internationally reputable journals. Additionally, academic writing teachers can use the proposed interpretive model and research results to teach expert academic writing to their students, thus enhancing the quality of student academic writing and enabling the publication of their papers in internationally reputable journals.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to evaluate the efficient frontier of the Expected Value (EV) model for the top five stocks on the Malaysian and Indonesian stock markets. The study will explain that the identified home bias-free area can be better understood through the efficient frontier of a combined portfolio of stocks from both markets. The method involves comparing the efficient frontier graphs of the EV model, calculated using linear programming concepts with the SOLVER add-in. It was found that the optimal expected return on the Indonesian market yields better results with lower relative risk for each level of return achieved. The efficient frontier of the combined stocks from both countries also provides a better explanation of how to avoid home bias, as indicated by the identified home bias-free area. The portfolio results from combining stocks yield higher returns compared to the portfolios from each individual market and also exhibit a better coefficient of variation. To make the research findings more comprehensive, future studies could utilize broader return windows, such as weekly or monthly.

Abstract

In the retail industry, employees are considered the backbone of operations because they play a role in running the store's daily operations. However, many retail store employees experience discomfort while working and some of them even have the intention to leave their jobs. To reduce turnover intention, managers or company leaders must pay attention to factors that influence it, such as Workload, Work Stress, and Work Environment. This research seeks to examine The Effect of Workload, Work Stress, and Work Environment on Turnover Intention (Study on employees of Retail Stores). The study employed a quantitative method, utilizing Smart PLS version 4.0. Data was gathered through questionnaires, which were tested for validity and reliability (outer model). Subsequently, the structural model (inner model) was evaluated, which involved calculating the coefficient of determination (R²) and testing the hypotheses. The results indicated that workload and work stress had a significant impact on turnover intention, whereas the work environment did not significantly influence employee turnover intention.
