Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. One of the transmission routes of T. gondii infection is the consumption of undercooked meat. Goats are an important source of income for farmers in Bali and have been reported to have the potential to carry T. gondii. The aim of this study was to detect the presence of Toxoplasma gondii contamination in goat meat in Kuta and Ubud, Bali, using molecular methods with BAG1 primers. Meat samples obtained from markets in Kuta and Ubud were sectioned, followed by extraction of T. gondii DNA, amplified by PCR, and electrophoresed on a 1% agarose gel. The resulting amplification products were approximately 470 base pairs in size. The study results indicated that goat meat was only successfully obtained from the Kuta market. Examination for the presence of T. gondii parasite in goat meat from the Kuta market targeting the BAG1 gene yielded all negative results (100%). Hygiene in goat husbandry should be maintained and even improved. Meat sold in markets or stores must be routinely inspected to ensure safety. Additionally, meat should be cooked at sufficiently high temperatures, and consumption of undercooked or rare meat should be avoided

Abstract

The epidemiological shift from communicable to non-communicable diseases poses a significant challenge in today’s health development efforts. Preventing chronic diseases has become a shared priority, one of which is through routine health screenings. The large number of adult and elderly members in the GBI Diaspora community highlights the need for health examinations as a concrete step in disease prevention. Psychological and financial barriers, along with often-overlooked documentation issues, can hinder individuals from undergoing health checks. A health record system was proposed as a solution through a mini project at GBI Diaspora Sejahtera Surabaya, delivered alongside health screening activities. The implementation involved collaboration and coordination in designing the “SEHATKU” pocketbook, which was distributed during the screenings. A total of 71 GBI Diaspora participants underwent health screenings and received the “SEHATKU” pocketbook as a tool for recording results and providing education. Post-activity questionnaires completed by 65 participants showed that more than 50% demonstrated increased knowledge and awareness of the importance of regular health check-ups. With the use of the “SEHATKU” pocketbook, proper documentation supports ongoing individual health monitoring within the community. Regular health screenings accompanied by the distribution of the “SEHATKU” pocketbook represent a promotive and preventive measure for non-communicable disease prevention at the primary care level.

Abstract

Abstract

Asthma is a lung disease that is increasing in the number of patients and whose severity is difficult to control. Various single antioxidants have been studied to reduce the severity and period of asthma exacerbations but the appropriate intervention compound has yet to be found. Krill oil contains various kinds of antioxidant compounds at high levels. Objective: To explain the effect of the antioxidant compounds in krill oil on asthma. Research Methods: Several journals and articles examined the effects of each antioxidant compound in krill oil on asthma. Results: several studies have shown that the effects of antioxidant compounds in krill oil can reduce inflammation and exacerbations of asthma. Conclusion: Biomolecular research is needed to determine the levels of antioxidant compounds in krill oil considering that the composition of krill oil can easily change due to various factors.

Abstract

Vaccination aims to have a specific impact on a certain disease so that one day you will be exposed to the disease, you will not get sick or only experience mild illness. Indonesia is carrying out the COVID-19 vaccination as part of the COVID-19 pandemic prevention strategy, with the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination aimed at protecting the public from SARS-CoV-2 infection which can cause illness and death due to COVID-19. The vaccination program is carried out by the government in 4 stages carried out by the Puskesmas as an extension of the local Health Office. Puskesmas are the spearhead of the implementation of the vaccination program for the community. Puskesmas Made Surabaya oversees several higher education institutions in the region. In carrying out the implementation of the phase 2 vaccination with a larger coverage, it requires the assistance of health workers and a place of implementation that facilitates access to services. Vaccination activity phase two is a government program and Puskesmas Made requires the support of health personnel and a place of service that facilitates access to vaccination services. Solutions in the form of assistance for health workers and a place for vaccine implementation that facilitate access to implementation are important in the success of the COVID-19 Vaccination program. The methods used are preparation of vaccine officer registration, participating in vaccine officer training and obtaining vaccinator certificates, technical coordination of vaccine implementation at Puskesmas, implementation, and evaluation of vaccination implementation. The results of the activities to achieve vaccination at the Ciputra University Vaccine post for institutions in the working area of the Puskesmas are well made.
