Abstract

Proses dekomposisi plastik berlangsung sangat lambat sehingga diperlukan waktu ratusan tahun agar terdegradasi menjadi mikroplastik melalui berbagai proses fisik, kimiawi maupun biologis.

Abstract

Bongkasa Pertiwi Village, Abiansemal District, Badung Regency, is a highland area where the community maintains strong traditions, including raising Balinese pigs for both traditional and economic purposes. Balinese pigs have a genetic advantage in the form of high fat content, making them highly sought after as raw material for suckling pigs. However, since late 2021, pig farming in Bali has faced a serious threat in the form of an African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak, which has caused mass deaths with a mortality rate of nearly 100%. This situation is exacerbated by the lack of understanding among farmers regarding disease prevention and management. This Community Service Program was implemented to address two main issues: (1) preventing the spread of ASF, and (2) developing Balinese pig fattening. The activities included outreach, training, mentoring, and the implementation of biosecurity practices in the barn. Additionally, training was provided on formulating high-fat, low-fiber feed to support optimal fattening. The results of this activity demonstrated improved knowledge and skills among farmers in implementing biosecurity measures, such as routine disinfection, pen waste management, and livestock movement restrictions. Farmers were also able to practice producing alternative feed based on local ingredients with a nutritional composition tailored to the needs of fattening Bali pigs. The resulting impacts included a reduced susceptibility to ASF, an average 12–15% increase in daily pig weight during the fattening period, and increased collective awareness among livestock groups for more professional business management. Thus, this activity not only provides a short-term solution to the ASF threat but also encourages the independence and sustainability of livestock groups in increasing Bali pig productivity, ultimately contributing to the economic resilience of village communities.

Abstract

The transformation of learning at the elementary school level requires teachers to apply instructional approaches aligned with 21st-century education demands, particularly Deep Learning–based instruction. However, preliminary observations indicated that most teachers at SDN 1 Gulingan, Badung still faced challenges in understanding the concepts, principles, and systematic implementation of deep learning in classroom practice. This community service program aimed to enhance teachers’ competencies in applying the Deep Learning approach through training, instructional design development, hands-on classroom implementation, and continuous mentoring. The implementation applied the Participatory Action Learning System (PALS) model consisting of five stages: socialization, theoretical and practical training, integration of technology to support learning, classroom mentoring, and program sustainability reinforcement through a professional learning community. The results demonstrated a significant improvement across four competency indicators: understanding of deep learning concepts (from 48% to 88%), ability to design lesson plans using the Deep Learning framework (from 42% to 81%), use of educational technology (from 55% to 90%), and classroom implementation of deep learning (from 38% to 82%). In addition, classroom observations during mentoring indicated a shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning, characterized by increased collaborative, exploratory, and reflective student activities. The program also produced a sustainability outcome through the establishment of an Innovation-Based Teacher Working Group (KKG) as a platform for sharing best practices and continuous professional development. In conclusion, training and mentoring based on the PALS model proved effective in improving teachers’ pedagogical competence and fostering the implementation of innovative instructional practices aligned with future education demands.

Abstract

Natural dyes are increasingly considered sustainable alternatives to synthetic textiles dyes, yet their use is often based on tradition rather than scientific understanding. This study explores the morphological traits and phytochemical profiles of plants used in Gringsing fabric and considers their relevance for biology education. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied to four species through field observation, interviews, and phytochemical screening of selected plant parts. The findings show that phenolics, tannins, and flavonoids are consistently present and play key roles in color formation and binding. Observable plant characteristics were closely linked to the distribution of these compounds, suggesting a clear scientific basis behind traditional practices. Integrating these findings into learning materials offers a meaningful way to connect biological concepts with local knowledge in classroom contexts. Abstract

The Hindu community in Bali is inseparable from various religious ceremonies. In every religious ritual, the community uses multiple types of upakara facilities which are seen as a symbolic communication process carried out between humans and God, for all His gifts. Upakara facilities come from biodiversity, one of which comes from plants. Plants from the Zingiberaceae family known as empon-empon plants are one of the upakara facilities used in every Yadnya ceremony. Research related to this utilization was conducted in Kedisan Village, Tegallalang District, Gianyar Regency. Based on the research results, it is known that there are 14 types of plants from the Zingiberaceae family that are used in the ceremony, namely jahe (Zingiber officinale), kunyit kuning (Curcuma domestica Val.), kencur (Kaempferia galanga), kecombrang (Etlingera elatior), temu ireng (Curcuma aeruginosa), temu lawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), temu kunci (Boesenbergia rotunda), temu giring (Curcuma heyneane), temu mangga (Curcuma amada), temu tis (Curcuma purpurascen Blume), temu gongseng (Kaempferia rotunda L.), temu agung (Curcuma aromatica), temu putih (Curcuma zedoaria Rocs.), dan lempuyang (Zingiber zerumbet). The use of Zingiberaceae plants as a means of ritual is so extensive that the local community balances it with conservation efforts carried out in the yard, planted in pots, and planted as an interlude in plantation areas, fields, and on the edge of rice fields. So in this case, the use of Zingiberaceae plants as a means of ritual is a local wisdom that contains conservation values.

Abstract

The rapid development and advancement of digital technology have brought significant changes to the field of education. On the one hand, digital technology provides considerable benefits by facilitating teachers and students in accessing a wide range of information and pedagogical innovations. On the other hand, it also raises serious concerns, particularly regarding challenges in the formation of students’ character. Character education is a fundamental foundation that must be integrated into all learning processes, with the aim of ensuring that students not only possess strong cognitive competencies but also demonstrate good morals and positive attitudes. This study aims to examine the concept of integrating character education, particularly in biology learning in the digital era. The research employed a literature review method, drawing on various sources such as educational policies, journal articles, and relevant books. The integration of character education in biology learning in the digital era represents a holistic approach that combines mastery of biological concepts, character development, and the cultivation of 21st-century skills in a sustainable manner. The findings indicate that digital technology is not merely a supporting tool but also serves as an effective medium for strengthening students’ character. However, its success largely depends on teachers’ competencies in utilizing technology to design innovative, meaningful learning experiences that are oriented toward character values.
