Abstract

Indonesia is the third largest cocoa bean producing country in the world after Ghana and the Ivory Coast with current Indonesian cocoa bean production of 600,000 tons per year. The quality of cocoa is still relatively low compared to the harvest potential that should be obtained, such as the Sulawesi III clone which provides a yield potential of 2-2.4 tons per hectare. This study aims to obtain indigenous bacteria from Meko village so that the role of each bacteria can be further investigated. The results of growing bacteria on LB media found 25 isolates which were observed to have quite varied morphology including round and irregular shapes, having rough and dull and slimy surfaces, opaque, cloudy and colored (yellow and reddish) and having flat and rising elevations. Most of the bacteria obtained were rod-shaped, namely 23 were gram negative and three were gram positive. The shape of the cell is dominated by the shape of the rod, about 19 are rod-shaped and the remaining six are round.

Abstract

Free radicals (UV rays). Therefore, the best solution is needed by using skincare products containing antioxidants. Antioxidants can neutralize free radicals from UV rays. The hallmark of a product attracts people to buy, try, or feel the benefits of skincare ingredients. This research is experimental to determine the effectiveness of ingredients from bulung sangu, which are formulated in the form of fine powder for skincare. The study used four scrub samples, namely bulung sangu (Formulation 1 dan 2), without bulung sangu (Formulation 3), and Bali Alus Seaweed (Formulation 4) which were used for 2 weeks by 30 panelists from the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University with hedonic tests for appearance, aroma, color, and texture of the scrub and tests the effectiveness of moisture and brightness to the skin. The results obtained, Formulation 4, the highest average value and total percentage of hedonic (78%, 79%, 81%, 83%) and Formulation 2, the lowest average value and total percentage of hedonic (64%, 56%, 63%, 61%). The results of the effectiveness test Formulation 1 have the highest value, namely skin moisture normal to slightly moist (38% to 46%) and tanned skin to bright white skin (15 to 9). Meanwhile, Formulation 4 from Bali Alus Seaweed, have the lowest value, namely skin moisture normal to slightly moist (41% to 44%) and the skin remains in the tanned skin (15). Abstract

Bulung boni and bulung anggur are species of Caulerpa seaweeds commonly found along the coastline of Serangan Island, Bali. Although these species have been widely utilized in various ways, formal species identification of these two macroalgae in Bali had not been conducted prior to this study. This research aims to characterize the morphological structures of bulung boni and bulung anggur through detailed morphological examination. Identification keys and previous studies were used to assist in the morphological identification process. The findings revealed that bulung boni shares morphological characteristics with Caulerpa cylindracea, while bulung anggur is morphologically comparable to Caulerpa macrophysa. These results provide valuable insights into the species composition of seaweeds in the region and contribute to a better understanding of local biodiversity.

Abstract

Along with the growing number of people, the need for food is also growing. Citrus nobilis l is one of the many well-known fruits. Citrus nobilis L, both in its fresh and processed forms, is easily broken if it is not treated correctly. This study hopes to make things look better and save power simultaneously by coming up with different emulsions. Palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, and a mix make the slurry. Organoleptic study of Citrus nobilis L., vitamin C content, water content, and identification of compounds using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Evaluation of organoleptic analysis test done by hedonic test (colour, smell, texture, taste, and general acceptance) and test scoring (colour, texture). A combination of palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids in an emulsion will make tangerine fruit look better and last longer. How vitamin C and water are measured and analyzed affects different emulsions. When citrus fruits are treated with palmitic, stearic, and oleic acid solutions, the lowest quality drops to 14.4851 mg of vitamin C per 100 grammes and 91.8401% water. The total amount of volatile compounds in fruit orange conjoined DL-Limonene has many different areas of volatile compounds in each treatment emulsion.

Abstract

Kayu tangi (Lagerstroemia sp.) is one of the medicinal plants that is often used traditionally by Balinese people for treating insomnia, diabetes, and dysentery. This study aims to determine the phylogenetic trees and the active compounds in Lagerstroemia tomentosa extract and its antioxidant activities. The methods used in molecular identification are DNA isolation, PCR, and DNA sequencing. The DNA sample was BLASTed to see its homology with the sequences in GenBank. These sequences were then used for phylogenetic tree analysis. The phytochemical analysis was done using the GC-MS method and the antioxidant activity test used the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) after being reacted with the tested extract.  The results of molecular identification showed that the samples used were closely related to Lagerstroemia tomentosa species (MW044208.1). The antioxidant activity test results showed an IC50 of 2.1 ugml-1 which is included in the very strong category. The phytochemical test results showed that the most dominant compounds contained in the plant stem bark were furfural (AUC 8.54%), beta-sitosterol (AUC 6.00%), and gamma-sitosterol (AUC 3.81%). Based on PubChem data, these compounds have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties as well as insecticide and herbicide. In conclusion, kayu tangi is very close to  Lagerstroemia tomentosa and it’s potentially used as a medicine with strong antioxidant activities.

Abstract

Red beetroot has been reported to possess various medicinal properties and antimicrobial activity. Therefore, this study aims to determine the compounds contained in the ethyl acetate extract of red beetroot pulp and evaluate its anti Escherichia coli effect. The extract was obtained by soaking the fruit in ethyl acetate, and then assessed for its components using GC-MS analysis. Antibacterial activity was tested using a disc diffusion assay. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of red beetroot pulp contained a total of 20 major compounds. These included ester of 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid and bis(2-ethylhexyl), 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, and n-hexadecanoic acid. In the antibacterial test, the sample was highly effective against E. coli (IC 50 was 0,783 mg/mL). In addition, the diameter of the growth inhibition zone increased along with the extract concentration. These results suggest that the ethyl acetate extract of red beetroot pulp offers a natural antibacterial substitute to its synthetic equivalents.
