Abstract

More than a third of toddlers in Indonesia are stunted and this condition can continue into their teens. The adverse effects of stunting on children can be in the short term, such as growth and development disorders, low immune system and leading to mortality, while long-term impacts, such as short stature in adulthood, low school performance and work productivity, and low reproductive health. Pregnancy in adolescents and inadequate of complementary foods for toddlers has also contributed to the increasing prevalence of stunting. Increasing adolescent knowledge about reproductive health-risk of teenage pregnancies and mothers' knowledge about healthy complementary foods will prevent pregnancy in adolescents and stunting in toddlers. This integrated socialization for adolescents who junior high school students in SMPN 4 Indralaya Utara and mothers in Soak Batok Village is expected to support the program to reduction of stunting in Soak Batok Village, Regency of Ogan Ilir. The results of the evaluation showed that socialization for adolescents increased their knowledge about reproductive health and socialization for mothers of Soak Batok Village was enthusiastically received by them.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic diseases often not realized by sufferers and continue to experience a significant increase. They are the largest contributor to the cause of death in the world. NCDs also affect a person's susceptibility to exposure to coronavirus 19 (covid 19) and increase the severity of covid 19 sufferers. This study aimed to design a health application that the community can use for early detection of NCD risk factors, especially modifiable behavioral risk factors and metabolic risk factors. The application design method used the prototype method. Needs analysis and application trials were conducted at Sriwijaya University. A needs analysis was performed by conducting in-depth interviews with five students, three lecturers, three employees, a leadership of faculty, and ahead of the university's healthy campus program. User trial results are evaluated through Zoom and by filling out a questionnaire on Google Forms. The results of the needs analysis survey showed that most users want the design of an Android-based health application that assesses the risk of NCDs and recommendations for the results of risk assessment. In conclusion, an android-based health application has been designed to independently detect the risk of non-communicable diseases under the name DERI PTM. This application can be developed into an effective educational media for preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases in the community. It can be utilized as an information system (surveillance) of NCDs at Sriwijaya University.

Abstract

Abstract

. The UNICEF report states that the prevalence of stunting in children under the age of five (toddlers) in 2019 reached 21.3%. Toddlers are active consumers where they can choose the food they like. Parenting patterns of feeding toddlers play an important role in their growth and development, because they are closely related to the health and intelligence of children. Inappropriate feeding parenting will have an impact on nutritional deficits so that it will trigger stunting. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between feeding parenting and the incidence of stunting. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional research design. Respondents were 48 people, who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data were processed by statistical tests and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were 22.9% of respondents experiencing stunting and most of the respondents had a feeding pattern in the right category (79.2%). The results of the analysis stated that the parenting style of feeding (p < 0.001), family income (p = 0.015), and the mother's last education (p = 0.001) were related to the incidence of stunting. The conclusion of this study is that feeding parenting in the inappropriate category has a risk of stunting 38 times compared to toddlers who are given feeding parenting in the appropriate category (PR = 38,000, 95% CI: 5,494 – 262,851). The results of this study are expected to be an evaluation for parents so that they can pay attention to feeding parenting patterns so that children can grow and develop according to their age stages.

Abstract

In 2023, South Sumatra Province recorded a quality score of the Food Pattern of Hope (PPH), reaching 94.2, surpassing the national average. However, cases of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women remained, with a percentage of 7.4%. CED in pregnant women can lead to the birth of babies with low birth weight (LBW), disrupt fetal growth, and increase the risk of anemia during pregnancy, which can indirectly contribute to prematurity. This study aims to identify the determinant characteristics of CED in pregnant women during the second and third trimesters in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The method used is quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the analysis showed that CED among pregnant women in their second and third trimesters in Ogan Ilir Regency occurred in determinant groups with no risk of pregnancy spacing (10.3%), sufficient antenatal care history (10%), non-risk maternal age (10.9%), and non-working mothers (9.8%). For the parity variable, five pregnant women with CED (11.9%) were from the high-risk parity category. Regarding the high-risk determinant characteristics, CED was found in low maternal education (15.2%) and low family income (11.2%). Future research is recommended to explore the determinant characteristics of CED more complexly. Additionally, optimal antenatal care (ANC) should be conducted in quantity and quality, emphasizing the importance of enhancing maternal health knowledge. Implementing the recommendation of at least two pregnancy check-ups by a doctor should also be strengthened.
