Abstract

The growth of oil palm plantations in Indonesia, especially in Kalimantan and Sumatra, has resulted in an increase in palm oil waste from harvesting and tree care, both in the form of liquid waste and solid waste. As waste, palm fronds and leaves experience natural decomposition for about 4 months, which can cause a very large buildup and become a nest for pests to inhabit before decomposing. Designing an oil palm frond and leaf shredding machine involves designing special blades mounted on a rotating shaft, as well as a strong support structure to handle tough fiber materials, such as oil palm fronds and leaves, by producing flakes that can be used as organic fertilizer or ingredients. animal feed. The aim of this research is to create and test testing machines for chopping palm fronds and leaves showing that different blades have the ability to chop quite fine parts of the leaves with a chop length of between 20 mm and 50 mm, and the hardest part, palm fronds, can also be chopped finely. The amount of time spent is 1 minute and is able to chop 3 palm fronds. In 5 repetitions, an average time of 1 minute was obtained to chop the fronds. Based on the effective capacity of 5 repetitions on 19 blades, the average result was 1.45 kg/minute. Meanwhile, for effective capacity from 5 repetitions on 24 blades, the average result was 1.57 kg/minute and for effective capacity from 5 repetitions on 26 blades, the average result was 1.76 kg/minute

Abstract

Straw, a byproduct of rice harvesting, is a waste material from farming activities that can be repurposed as animal feed and organic fertilizer. Rice straw, when supplemented with probiotics, can enhance feed nutrition, and its high potassium content contributes to the fertility of agricultural soil. The purpose of this community service activity was to increase the knowledge of the Sri Warga farmer group about the benefits of rice straw and the application of organic waste shredding machine technology. The physical shredding of rice straw improves its quality as animal feed and accelerates the composting process for organic fertilizer. The results of the community service activity demonstrated the farmer group members’ enthusiasm for adopting organic waste shredding machine technology and utilizing rice straw. There was a notable increase in their understanding of the dual benefits of rice straw—as a nutritious animal feed and as a resource for enhancing soil quality through organic fertilizers. This activity significantly improved the knowledge and awareness of Sri Warga farmer group members about the potential uses of rice straw. A post-activity questionnaire revealed that 95% of the farmer group members understood the benefits and nutritional content of rice straw for use as organic fertilizer or animal feed, compared to only 70% before the activity. Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh torsi terhadap RPM pada dinamo listrik 1 HP yang digunakan dalam mesin pencacah rumput gajah. Rumput gajah, dengan kadar air tinggi mencapai 66,6%, terbukti memberi beban signifikan terhadap kinerja dinamo. Pengujian dilakukan pada dua tipe mesin pencacah (Mesin A dan B) dengan beban ±1 kg per sesi. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa penurunan RPM akibat beban pada Mesin A mencapai hingga 87% (dari 2890 menjadi 338,6 RPM), sementara Mesin B mengalami penurunan yang lebih terkontrol dengan fluktuasi stabil di bawah 80%. Penurunan RPM dikaitkan dengan tersumbatnya cacahan di mata pisau, serta ketidakseimbangan ukuran lubang filter. Grafik penurunan RPM memperkuat bahwa torsi meningkat seiring tingginya kadar air dan beban material. Perhitungan teknis pada sistem penggerak menunjukkan kecepatan keliling pulley mencapai 23,08 m/s dan gaya keliling v-belt sebesar 93,84 N. Data perawatan dan pengaturan beban juga disajikan sebagai rekomendasi berbasis bukti untuk menjaga efisiensi putaran dinamo. Temuan ini menjadi dasar untuk pengembangan mesin pencacah yang lebih tahan terhadap variasi material organik basah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan  guna menganalisis pengaruh variasi gerakan elektroda terhadap kekuatan mekanis baja karbon ST37 pada proses pengelasan kampuh V. Variasi gerakan elektroda yang digunakan adalah pola zig-zag dan melingkar dengan arus pengelasan sebesar 75A dan 85A. Pengujian dilakukan menggunakan uji tarik untuk mengevaluasi kekuatan tarik hasil pengelasan. Penelitian ini melibatkan proses preparasi material, pengelasan dengan metode SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), serta analisis hasil pengujian mekanis. Hasil spesifik menunjukkan bahwa pengelasan dengan polaritas DC+ dan arus 85A dengan gerakan elektroda zig-zag menghasilkan las dengan nilai kekuatan tarik sebesar 481,5 MPa.’Kesimpulan ini memberikan informasi penting dalam pemeliharaan parameter pengelasan untuk meningkatkan kualitas sambungan pada karbon baja ST37.
