Abstract

The excessive application of inorganic fertilizers in agriculture leads to environmental degradation, necessitating sustainable alternatives. This study evaluated the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) formulated from banana peel, mango peel, and rice washing water on the vegetative growth of Ipomoea reptans. The research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatment concentrations: 0 ml/L (control), 10 ml/L, 20 ml/L, and 30 ml/L, each replicated three times. Growth parameters assessed at 21 days after planting included plant height, number of leaves, number of roots, and fresh weight. Laboratory analysis revealed nutrient content of 0.04% nitrogen, 0.17% phosphorus, and 3.04% potassium, indicating a potassium-dominant formulation. The 10 ml/L treatment resulted in the highest plant height (18.00 cm), while the 30 ml/L treatment yielded the highest leaf number (9.33) and fresh weight (0.47 g). However, one-way ANOVA showed no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) among treatments. The novelty of this research lies in utilizing a combination of commonly discarded household organic waste as a low-cost biofertilizer with measurable nutrient content. Although short-term results were statistically insignificant, the formulation demonstrates potential for refinement and longer application in sustainable agriculture

Abstract

The age of children is a period in which the process of growth and development takes place. The existence of growth and development disorders in children is a serious problem for both developed and developing countries worldwide. The importance of monitoring growth and development requires adequate nutrition and nutrition, one of which is vitamin D. Vitamin D is a prohormone that plays an important role in the absorption of calcium in the intestine and helps harden bones by regulating the availability of calcium in the blood. This study aims to describe Total Vitamin D 25-OH in toddlers and children with growth and developmental disorders. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling technique based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research was conducted at Prodia Kramat Clinical Laboratory in March-April 2021. The D 25-OH level was checked from the patient's serum using the DiaSorin Liaison XL tool. Other variables measured to determine vitamin D status are appetite, eating frequency, nutritional adequacy, consumption of vitamin D supplements, outdoor activity, sunbathing, and genetic and environmental risk factors. Data from the examination of total vitamin D 25-OH levels and vitamin D status of the respondents were analyzed descriptively, then displayed in a table and described. The results showed that most respondents who were examined experienced stunting expected growth and development disorders by 76%, with total vitamin D 25-OH status experiencing insufficiency of 53% .

Abstract

Jambu air madu kesuma deli (Syzygium aqueum) adalah jenis buah yang populer di Indonesia karena memiliki rasa yang manis dan segar sehingga membuat tanaman tersebut banyak didatangi oleh serangga dan hama. Penggunaan pestisida harus sesuai dengan prinsip bioetika yaitu mengelola dan menggunakan sumber daya alam secara efektif agar tidak merusak lingkungan atau mengancam kehidupan makhluk hidup. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui etika dan dampak penggunaan pestisida pada budidaya tanaman jambu air madu kesuma deli (Syzygium aqueum). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan data penelitian diperoleh dari kegiatan wawancara semi-struktur. Etika penggunaan pestisida kimia untuk tanaman jambu air madu kesuma deli (Syzygium aqueum) dilihat dari penggunaan pestisida yang tepat dan mengikuti anjuran dosis penggunaan yang tertera pada kemasan pestisida serta mengaplikasikan pestisida kimia pada waktu yang tepat. Dosis yang digunakan tergolong aman karena tidak berdampak negatif bagi pertumbuhan tanaman jambu air madu kesuma deli (Syzygium aqueum).

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the genjer plant (Limnocharis flava) in absorbing phosphate pollutants contained in laundry wastewater and to identify environmental factors that influence the effectiveness of the genjer plant (Limnocharis flava) in absorbing phosphate pollutants from laundry wastewater. The study was conducted in the Greenhouse of the Biology Department, Universitas Negeri Medan, using the constructed wetland method with variations in laundry wastewater concentrations (25%, 50%, 100%) and clean water as the control. The sample was taken from a laundry business on Jl. Tuasan, Medan City. Over 7 days of observation, parameters such as pH, temperature, turbidity, and the physical condition of the genjer plants were monitored. The results showed that genjer plants were effective in absorbing phosphate, with reduced turbidity and stabilized pH and temperature, with the 50% concentration treatment being the most optimal. This research is expected to serve as a reference for the application of phytoremediation technology using genjer plants (Limnocharis flava) as an environmentally friendly alternative for laundry wastewater treatment

Abstract

The tofu industry produces waste in its processing process in the form of solid and liquid waste. One alternative to liquid waste treatment that can be used is the phytoremediation method. Phytoremediation system is a wastewater treatment technique using aquatic plants to help reduce organic substances contained in wastewater. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) in reducing heavy metal levels in tofu factory wastewater. This research method is experimental research on tofu factory wastewater with the research design used is pretest-posttest with control group. Based on the research obtained water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) effective in reducing heavy metal levels in tofu liquid waste is evident from the lower TDS levels shown in the treatment using water spinach plants (Ipomoea aquatica) with a concentration of 25% of 1,503 ppm with the length of time required for 6 days.

Abstract

Soil contamination due to the disposal of used oil that has not been managed properly in automotive workshops has the potential to cause pollution and environmental damage. One alternative treatment that can be done is bioremediation using earthworms as bioremediation agents. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of earthworms in accelerating the recovery of soil contaminated with engine oil and the factors that influence the effectiveness of earthworms as bioremediation agents in soil contaminated with engine oil. The method used is an experiment with different treatment variations in each media. This study was conducted by mixing soil contaminated with engine oil, vermicompost, and earthworms. The test results showed that earthworms were able to reduce the levels of hydrocarbon compounds in the soil for 21 days of observation.accomplished with the aid of digital devices.

Abstract

Water pollution by detergent waste is a serious environmental problem because it contains chemical compounds such as phosphates and surfactants that are difficult to decompose. The Pistia stratiotes (kiambang) plant is a water weed that pools on the surface and is often used as an aquarium filler or as an interior ornament for water ponds. The benefits of aquatic plants such as kiambang can reduce the concentration of pollutants in waste through the phytoremediation process. This research aims to determine the ability of the kiambang plant (Pistia stratiotes) as a phytoremediation agent in reducing the level of water pollution and improving the quality of water exposed to detergent waste. The research method used was experimentation with variations in kiambang mass (50 g, 100 g, 150 g) in detergent wastewater samples. The research results show that the greater the mass of kiambang plants, the more effective it is in reducing water pH and improving water quality. The largest decrease in pH occurred in the treatment with a kiambang mass of 150 g after seven days, reaching an average pH value of 7.78. Phytoremediation with kiambang has been proven to be an environmentally friendly solution for managing detergent waste and helping restore aquatic ecosystems.

Abstract

This research evaluates the potential of Iris pseudacorus as a bioremediation agent toreduce household wastewater pollution. Using an experimental approach, wastewater samples with different concentrations (1200 ml, 1000 ml, 700 ml, and 500 ml) were tested with Iris water for 10 days. Parameters such as pH, TDS, temperature, turbidity, and odor were observed periodically. Results showed that Iris pseudacorus effectively increased pH, reduced odor, and removed turbidity, and maintained TDS stability, indicating the ability of this plant to absorb pollutants and improve wastewater quality. This study concludes that Iris pseudacorus has strong potential as a bioremediation agent to improve water quality and support environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Dalam mencapai tumbuh kembang optimal pada anak dibutuhkan asupan nutrisi yang baik dan gizi seimbang. Pada saat lahir bayi wajib diberikan ASI eksklusif sebagai pemenuhan nutrisi, kemudian setelah usia enam bulan diberikan Makanan Pendamping ASI (MPASI). Makanan pendamping dapat dibuat sendiri dengan memanfaatkan tanaman lokal bernilai gizi tinggi seperti bubur daun kelor. Daun kelor dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi malnutrisi pada anak. Potensi tanaman lokal bernilai gizi tinggi seperti daun kelor belum dimanfaatkan dengan baik sehingga perlu pemanfaatan daun kelor sebagai MPASI untuk membantu meningkatkan gizi Balita di Desa Telaga Tujuh Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode Pendidikan Masyarakat melalui penyuluhan dan bimbingan kepada mitra tentang pembuatan MPASI berbahan daun kelor yang sehat dan bergizi. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dari Audiensi dan koordinasi kepada mitra lalu mengidentifikasi calon kelompok sasaran. Selanjutnya Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat memberi pemaparan terkait manfaat dan nilai gizi daun kelor serta menjelaskan cara pembuatan bubur daun kelor. Kemudian,   melakukan   monitoring   dan   evaluasi   kegiatan.   Tim   bersama Mitra telah melakukan penyuluhan tentang manfaat dan nilai gizi daun kelor sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai menu MPASI Balita. Tim juga telah memberikan pemahaman dan pendampingan kepada para ibu balita tentang cara pembuatan bubur daur kelor. Tim juga memberikan bubur daun kelor kepada Balita sebagai upaya meningkatkan nilai gizi Balita.
