Abstract

This study aims to determine the type and composition of the catch, as well as describe the operation of the sondong fishing gear (push net) in the waters of the Rupat Strait, Dumai City, Riau Province. The method used is a descriptive method with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data collection was carried out through direct observation, interviews with fishermen from KM Camar Laut, and documentation of catches from January to June 2025. The results of the study indicate that the sondong fishing gear has a simple construction with high effectiveness in catching white shrimp (Penaeus sp) as the main catch. In addition, there are bycatch in the form of senangin fish, gulama fish, sole fish, flatfish, black pomfret, swimming crab, sea eel, and tiger shrimp. The discarded catch that has no economic value is dominated by puffer fish (Tetraodon sp). Of the total catch of ±2,437 kg, approximately 43.4% is the main catch, 25.2% is bycatch, and 31.4% is discarded. Although effective, this tool is considered less selective and has the potential to damage the waters bottom. Therefore, sustainable management and monitoring of the use of sondong fishing gear is needed so as not to threaten the sustainability of the marine ecosystem in the area.

Abstract

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a leading aquaculture commodity in Indonesia, with high market demand for both domestic consumption and export. However, cultivation continues to fail, primarily due to water quality problems. Water-quality parameters play a crucial role in the ecosystem of intensive shrimp ponds. This study aimed to determine the effect of stocking density on water quality and production outcomes. The research was conducted over one shrimp culture cycle at PT Shihe Udang Industry Indonesia. The results showed that the water-quality dynamics in all three observed ponds tended to increase as the day of culture progressed, and the parameters that most strongly influenced shrimp growth and production were NH4⁺, total organic matter, and total Vibrio count. The data indicate that higher stocking densities strongly affect water quality: Pond A1 (361 shrimp/m²) had more stable water quality than ponds A5 (637 shrimp/m²) and C (1,296 shrimp/m²). Production in Pond A1 was the most optimal at 11,220.31 kg, with a survival rate of 68% and a feed conversion ratio of 1.47. The lowest production occurred in Pond C at 1,484.56 kg, with a survival rate of 25% and a feed conversion ratio of 2.43. The poor production performance in Pond C was driven by the very high stocking density, which deteriorated water quality; the high total Vibrio count also contributed to shrimp mortality.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract - Seaweed is one of the biological resources that is very abundant in Indonesian waters. Indonesia's seaweed export products are currently still dominated by seaweed products, reaching 80%. For export needs, the water content of seaweed must reach around 15%. To achieve export standard moisture content, wholesalers or industries usually carry out the seaweed drying process independently. Meanwhile, to avoid losses in exporting dried seaweed, they test seaweed samples to be purchased to determine the percentage of water content reduction in the seaweed. In the testing process, currently we are still using a small oven with a gas-burning stove and a separate digital scale. The use of this device is felt to be less effective and less flexible in its application. Therefore, we need a tool that is integrated into one and is small in size to detect the percentage of water content reduction in seaweed samples. In this research, experimental methods were used in testing equipment and collecting data. The results of the experiment showed that a good temperature to use in drying seaweed samples was 160 OC with the result that the seaweed was dry but not burnt. Meanwhile, the shrinkage percentage is around 34.72%.
