Poverty becomes the main problem, which prevents Third World Countries to be equal as any other countries in the world. This issue could be analysing from the development strategies of the Third World countries. They implemented Western Development strategies, which finally failed to overcome the problem. The main cause of the poverty in the Third World countries is the asymmetry in the world political economy. This article discusses this phenomenon by using three different theories: Centre-Periphery theory, Neo-Marxism and Dependency theory and Classic Marxism theory. Abstract

There are two constraints in the process of economic recovery in Indonesia. First, investment rate is decreasing in the last five years. This matter happens due to the bad investment climate in Indonesia. Second, slow growth of export rate in Indonesia. At the present, investment rate in Indonesia is only 22 percent of GDP, while the ideal rate is 30 percent of GDP. Another problem, which may be interrupting the economic recovery, is de-industrialization. The sign of de-industrialization occur by relocation phenomena of FDIfrom Indonesia. This research analyze the effects of direct investment and export to GDP. The tool of analyses of this research is econometric model known as Error Correction Models. The results shows that in a long term and short term, export and direct investment do not have a significant effect to GDP. It shows that Indonesia do not have a clear policy about export and investment. The policy implications of this research are government should have a deregulation policy in the industry and recover investment climate.

Abstract

Technology becomes a major variable in the global industry. This phenomenon effects on the worlds economic structure due to the technological disparity between developed countries and developing ones. As a developing country, Indonesia faces the same problem with any other ones. The disparity could be analyze by correlating the global product life cycle and the technology transfer process. The conclussion is, technology transfer from developed countries to developing ones happens when the product mature and obsolence. To overcome this problem, Indonesia have to focus on a few points, which are: maintaining local knowledge, industrial deconstruction, intellectual capital enforcement and building the rich land and big people paradigm.

Abstract

This study explored the efficiency of SME Cluster. We developed an efficiency model consistingof operational capital, labor cost and raw material cost as the inputs. We proposed sales revenueand assets as the outputs of the model. Furthermore, a survey was conducted by involving 83SMEs in three different clusters. These three different clusters were batik cluster, furniture cluster, and apparel cluster. These clusters had been considered as SMEs with large labor absorption andenormous productivity, particularly in the area of Central Java, Indonesia. Our result shows thatmost SMEs included in those three clusters are not efficient in operating their businesses. Themain problem is related with the cost structure, especially in costly raw materials. In addition, itis suggested to improve the performance of human resource in those SMEs.
