Abstract

Minyak atsiri rimpang temu giring (Curcuma heyneana Val & Zijp) berkhasiat sebagai antijamur terhadap Candida albicans dengan kadar hambat minimal (KHM) 0,25% v/v. Sifat minyak atsiri yang mudah menguap menyebabkan daya melekat pada kulit kurang optimal, sehingga perlu diformulasi dalam bentuk krim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh formulasi krim A/M dan M/A minyak atsiri rimpang temu giring terhadap sifat fisik dan daya antijamur terhadap Candida albicans. Minyak atsiri diperoleh dengan destilasi uap dan air (water and steam destillation). Krim dibuat dalam 2 tipe yaitu minyak dalam air (M/A) dan air dalam minyak (A/M) dengan konsentrasi minyak atsiri 10%. krim diuji sifat fisik (viskositas, daya menyebar, kemampuan proteksi, daya melekat, pH), dan uji daya antijamur terhadap Candida albicans secara in vitro. Pengamatan terhadap daya hambat jamur dilakukan setelah diinkubasi selama 48 jam dan diukur diameter zona hambatannya. Analisis data dengan anava satu jalan dilanjutkan uji t-LSD dengan taraf kepercayaan 95 %. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa krim minyak atsiri rimpang temu giring tipe A/M memiliki viskositas lebih besar daripada tipe M/A. Daya menyebar dan daya proteksi krim M/A lebih baik daripada krim A/M. Daya melekat krim A/M lebih lama daripada krim M/A. Krim M/A dan A/M memiliki pH 6-7. Krim minyak atsiri rimpang temu giring M/A memiliki daya antijamur terhadap Candida albicans yang lebih baik daripada krim A/M, dengan diameter zona hambatan secara berturut-turut 1,84±0,071 cm dan 1,70±0,074 cm.

Abstract

Glycerin is a humectant that is used frequently for cosmetics, especially in soaps. This study was conducted to determine the influence glycerin on the physical properties of glycerin soap including pH, soap hardness, foam stability, and also on the stability of vitamin C in the soap during 8 weeks storage. Vitamin C is formulated in soap with various concentrations of glycerin i.e 5%, 10% and 20%. Evaluation of the soap preparations include a pH test, soap hardness, foam stability test and evaluation on the stability of vitamin C for 8 weeks and the results obtained will be statistically analyzed using SPSS version 16 for windows by the Kruskal-Wallis method on the results test of pH and soap hardness, and using one way ANOVA method for evaluating foam stability. The results showed that glycerol did not significant influence on the pH value of soap with a significance value of P = 0.26> 0.05, while increasing the concentration of glycerin in the soap increased products softness. The foam stability testing showed that the difference in the concentration of glycerin on soap had no significant effect on improving the stability of foam. The best foam stability was found in vitamin C soap containing glycerine 10%. Glycerin also affected the stability of vitamin C in the soap. The stability of vitamin C is increased related to the increasing glycerin concentration in soap as demonstrated in formula III, which contained 20% glycerin and had 49.48% reducing in level of vitamin C, while the soap containing glycerine 5 % and 10%, had decreased 77.98% and 60.67% respectively in level of vitamin C during the storage period of 8 weeks.

Abstract

Damaged skin due to free radicals from ultraviolet radiation can be prevented using antioxidants. Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) containing antioxidants can be made into a peel off gel face mask using gelatin as a gelling agent to be applied easily to the skin. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of various gelatin concentrations on the physical properties and antioxidant activity of peel off gels containing red dragon fruit juice. The peel off gels face mask were made using various gelatin concentration i.e 7.5% w/w (F1); 10% w/w (F2); and 12.5% w/w and containing 10% w/w red dragon fruit. The peel off gels then evaluated for physical properties and antioxidant activity using DPPH. The result showed that the increasing of the gelatin concentration would increase the drying time and adhesive ability of the peel off gels. The escalation of gelatin concentration from 7.5% w/w (F1) to 10% w/w (F2) did not affect the spreading ability of the peel off gel. However, the spreading ability of the peel off gel decreased with the increasing concentration of gelatin from 10% w/w (F2) to 12.5% w/w (F3). The antioxidant test of peel off gel had an average percentage of inhibition of 9.101% (F1); 12.469% (F2); and 15.109% (F3). Based on the results of physical properties and antioxidant activity showed that formula 2 was recomended.

Abstract

Penyakit diabetes mellitus (DM) dan hipertensi merupakan penyakit dengan angka kejadian yang tinggi di Indonesia maupun dunia. Berdasarkan informasi yang diperoleh bahwa warga Kampung Windan, Kelurahan Makamhaji, Kabupaten Sukoharjo, memerlukan pengetahuan terkait pemanfaatan tanaman sebagai obat herbal untuk terapi DM dan hipertensi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terkait penggunaan tanaman untuk terapi penunjang pada penyakit DM dan hipertensi. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini ditargetkan kepada ibu-ibu anggota PKK Kampung Windan RT 1 RW 8 Makamhaji sebagai peserta. Materi yang diberikan berupa pemanfaatan tanaman atau bahan yang mudah ditemukan dimasyarakat sekitar untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai terapi DM dan hipertensi. Penyampaian materi dilakukan dengan presentasi oral/ceramah dan brosur yang dibagikan kepada peserta. Untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman peserta, beberapa pertanyan diberikan pada peserta untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman dari peserta pada awal (pre-test) dan akhir (post-test) kegiatan penyuluhan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa adanya pemberian materi berupa ceramah dan brosur dapat meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat terkait penggunaan tanaman untuk terapi penunjang DM dan hipertensi yang ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan nilai post test dibandingkan dengan nilai pre-test (p<0.05). Berdasarkan hasil pre-test dan post-test disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pemberian ceramah dan brosur secara bermakna dapat meningkatkan pemahaman peserta terkait penggunaan tanaman untuk terapi penyakit degeneratif seperti hipertensi dan DM.

Abstract

The natural dyes from beet (Beta vulgaris Linn) (BV) roots can be used as coloring agents in lipsticks. However, the dye has low stability in high temperature and light and can be oxidized by air. The dye was encapsulated into a microparticle (MP) using maltodextrin (MD) as a matrix to improve color stability. The research's objective was to evaluate the effect of various MD concentrations in encapsulated BV root extract towards physical characterizations of MP and lipsticks, including pH, lipstick hardness, melting point, and color stability. The BV roots water extract was obtained by grinding BV root into a juice and then dried using a freeze dryer. The encapsulation of the BV root extract was using MD as a matrix with a ratio of 1:5 BV dried extract to MD. The MD solution concentrations used in this experiment were 25%, 50%, and 75% (w/v). The result showed that the morphology of MPs resulting from the encapsulation is amorphous. Lipsticks were characterized by pink color and had shape according to the lipstick mold. The lipstick color changed to brown on the seventh day and faded on the 28th day. The variation of MD concentrations during MP preparation did not significantly influence the lipstick's pH value, hardness and melting point.

Abstract

Essential oil of Curcuma heyneana Val & Zijp has antifungal activity against Candida albicans with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) 0.25% v/v. Characteristic of essential oil is easy to evaporate from the skin surface. Therefore, it should be formulated in cream. The research aims to know influence of cream formulations of Curcuma heyneana oil toward physical characteristics and antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Essential oil was obtained by water and steam destillation. Cream were made into oil in water base (O/W) and water in oil base (W/O) containing 10% of Curcuma heyneana oil. Cream were tested for physical characteristics (such as viscosity, spreadability, protection ability, adhesive time, pH) and also in vitro antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Observation for antifungal activity was done after incubation for 48 hours. Data for physical characteristics and antifungal activity were analyzed using one way anava and continued with t-LSD test (p=0,95). The research indicated that W/O cream containing Curcuma heyneana oil had higher viscosity than O/W cream. Spreadability and protection ability O/W cream was better than W/O cream. Adhesive time of W/O cream was longer than O/W cream. Both of O/W and W/O cream had pH level of 6-7. O/W cream containing Curcuma heyneana oil had better inhibition zone against Candida albicans than cream W/O, they were 1.84±0.071 cm and  1.70±0.074 cm, respectively.

Abstract

Celecoxib has poor solubility and categorized as Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS) class II drug therefore, it prepared into the solid dispersion system in order to enhance drug solubility. This study aims to determine physical characteristic and the dissolution rate of celecoxib in solid dispersion systems using Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) polymers combined with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000. Celecoxib solid dispersions (CSDs) were prepared with HPMC-PVP in ratio of 1:2 and 2:1 and HPMC-PEG 6000 in ratio 1:2 and 2:1. The dissolution rate of CSDs were evaluated using dissolution method and physical characteristics were evaluated using the X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD). The result showed that the CSD containing HPMC-PVP 1:2 as a matrix had the highest dissolution rate (0.808 mg/cm2/minute). The dissolution rate was higher than pure celecoxib (0.400 mg / cm2 / minute). The characterisation of the crystalline degree of celecoxib solid dispersions (CSDs) using the X-ray Diffraction showed a decrease in the peak intensity of the interferance of the crystalline phase. The solid dispersion system using HPMC-PVP 1:2 could enhance the rate of dissolution of celecoxib twice highest than pure celecoxib. The highest dissolution rate value was found in celecoxib solid dispersion with 1:2 HPMC-PVP as a matrix.

Abstract

Buah naga merah (Hylocereus polyrhizus) merupakan buah yang memiliki kandungan Vitamin C sebagai antioksidan. Sari buah naga merah kering diperoleh melalui metode freeze dry. Formulasi sari buah naga merah bentuk mikropartikel dapat melindungi kandungan antioksidan. Mikropartikel sari buah naga merah dibuat dalam bentuk sediaan masker wajah gel peel off dengan gelatin sebagai gelling agent. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi konsentrasi basis gelatin terhadap sifat fisik dan aktivitas antioksidan sediaan. Variasi konsentrasi basis gelatin yang digunakan untuk formula F1 yaitu 7,5% b/b, F2 10% b/b, dan F3 12,5% b/b. Evaluasi sifat fisik sediaan meliputi organoleptis, uji pH, daya lekat, diameter daya sebar, waktu mengering, dan homogenitas. Hasil sifat fisik sediaan kecuali organoleptis dan homogenitas, diuji statistik dengan ANAVA 1 jalan dan uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH. Variasi konsentrasi basis gelatin yang semakin tinggi dari 7,5% b/b hingga 12,5% b/b pada sediaan yang mengandung mikropartikel sari buah naga merah dapat menurunkan pH, meningkatkan daya lekat, dan waktu mengering. Namun variasi konsentrasi basis gelatin tidak berpengaruh terhadap diameter daya sebar. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan sediaan tidak menunjukkan adanya penghambatan radikal bebas dari DPPH pada jumlah sampel 500 mg atau konsentrasi mikropartikel dalam sediaan masker wajah gel peel off 10 mg/mL.
