Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang manajemen organisasi pada Kelompok Wanita Tani Putri Nyelem; (2) Pembuatan struktur organisasi Kelompok Wanita Tani Putri Nyelem; (3) membantu dalam penyusunan rencana kegiatan berbasis kemasyarakatan di Dusun Medaen Barat Desa Badrain Narmada Lombok Barat. Kegiatan ini akan menjalin hubungan antara Universitas dengan masyarakat semakin erat. Pelaksanaan pengabdian dilakukan dengan metode andragogi yang dilakukan melalui penyuluhan dan pendampingan kepada kelompok wanita tani. Dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini diikuti oleh 18 orang peserta yang merupakan anggota kelompok wanita tani Putri Nyelem. Hasil yang dicapai dari kegiatan Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat ini menunjukkan hasil yang positif antara lain: (1) Peningkatan pengetahuan para kader KWT Putri Nyelem dalam mengelola organisasi sebesar 72,2% hal ini dilihat dari hasil persentase peningkataan saat Pre Test dan Post Test dilakukan; (2) Diperoleh hasil dari penyuluhan manajemen organisasi berupa struktur organisasi KWT Putri Nyelem Dusun Medaen Barat Desa Badrain Narmada Lombok Barat; (3) Tersusunnya rencana kegiatan berbasis kemasyarakatan yakni pengelolaan Bank Sampah Syari’ah yang tujuannya memanfaatkan limbah plastik menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomis bagi KWT Putri Nyelem dan juga bagi Masyarakat dusun Medaen. Kegiatan ini juga telah ikut mendorong semakin intensifnya komunikasi timbal balik antara Universitas dengan masyarakat yang tergabung dalam kelompok wanita tani Putri Nyelem.

Abstract

The demand for a diverse range of solid wood products has been steadily increasing. The unique grain patterns inherent to each wood species render solid wood products to possess distinct market segments. Nevertheless, the inherent vulnerabilities of wood as a biomaterial, such as susceptibility to decay, dimensional instability, and low resistance to organisms, necessitate specialized treatment for wood products. One environmentally sustainable treatment methodology, capable of enhancing the aesthetic value of wood, is the yakisugi finishing technique”a method involving the controlled charring of the wood surface. Notably, this technique remains relatively unfamiliar amongst small and medium-sized wood processing enterprises (UMKM) and the millennial generation. Consequently, this engagement initiative assumes significant importance in introducing the yakisugi finishing method to the millennial cohort. The unique visual characteristics of wood, engendered by this technique, hold the potential to serve as a catalyst for innovation in the realm of wooden product development by millennials. The engagement activities primarily encompass instructional modules, comprising theoretical elucidations and practical applications. Participants, affiliated with the youth group 'karang taruna,' have demonstrated appreciable enthusiasm towards the engagement activities that pertain to the yakisugi technique. It is anticipated that novel products will emerge as a result of the application of the yakisugi finishing technique, particularly within the domain of contemporary minimalist furniture products.

Abstract

Education is the process to form an individual’s character into someone possesses useful knowledge in daily life. Teaching assistance Program was one of government’s efforts to improve the quality of learning activities in Indonesi. This article aims to provide an explanation of the implementation of Teaching Assistance Program for the first-year student of Forestry Program at Matarma Universita, which conducted at the Forestry Vocational School, Wana Wisata Sekaroh, Jerowaru Subdistrict, East Lombok. This activity took place approximately 4 months. The method of implementing the program cosnsisted of orientation, deployment, observation, planning program, report, program execution,and evaluation. The activities carried out included teaching program, assisting with school administrarion, creating a school garden, assisting with technology adaptatiom, conducting outreach to student about the graduate from Yunior high school and the nearest junior high school, creating banners and poster, establishing a Numeracy Literacy Garden, Planting tree sapling within the School, and making charcoal briquettes from corn husk, The series of activitie were carried out successfully.

Abstract

Lamination technology is an effort to overcome various problems resulting from the wood industry experiencing difficulties in finding raw materials to support its operations. Developing environmentally friendly materials such as laminate products is also becoming a concern in the construction sector. This research will use fast-growing wood species with bamboo, namely rajumas wood, sengon wood, and petung bamboo. Several factors, including the type of wood, type of adhesive, adhesive melt weight, and compression pressure, influence the manufacture of laminated boards. This research aims to see the effect of the type of wood combination (sengon and rajumas) with petung bamboo and the effect of pressure and their interactions on their physical and mechanical properties. The experimental design was a factorial design with 2 factors (compression pressure and combination type) with four treatments and three replications. Based on the results of testing laminated boards' physical and mechanical properties, several conclusions can be drawn, such as density testing, which shows that the type of wood combination has a significant effect. At the same time, compression pressure and its interactions have no significant effect. Moisture content testing showed that pressure had a significant effect, while the type of wood combination and its interactions had no significant effect. The thickness expansion test shows that the type of wood combination and its interactions have a significant effect, while the compression pressure has no significant effect. Thickness shrinkage testing shows that the type of wood combination, compression pressure, and their interactions do not significantly affect it. Modulus of Elasticity (MoE) testing shows that the type of wood combination, compression pressure, and their interactions do not significantly affect it. Modulus of Rupture (MoR) shows that the type of combination has a significant effect, while the compression pressure and its interaction have no significant effect.

Abstract

The issue of unemployment in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), particularly among the youth, has prompted skill-training initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and community empowerment. This community service project was conducted with the Bina Gapura Youth Organization in Perina Village, Central Lombok, with the goal of training participants in producing minimalist furniture using the environmentally friendly yakisugi finishing technique. This technique is known for its efficiency, aesthetic appeal, and ability to improve wood durability against destructive organisms without the use of harmful chemicals. The training method included foundational material on wood characteristics, practical application of the yakisugi finishing technique, and an introduction to woodworking machinery. Participants were also provided guidance in business strategy formulation through the Business Model Canvas (BMC) as an initial management framework for business development. The results indicate that participants developed a sound understanding of the yakisugi finishing process, as evidenced by the aesthetically pleasing wooden products created during the practical sessions. Collaborative processes with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in wood processing are expected to greatly assist in the initial stages of business development

Abstract

Wood has hygroscopic properties so that the dimensional balance is unstable and favored by destructive organisms. In addition, wood exposed outdoors will easily undergo photodegradation by UV rays. One of the methods to improve the quality of wood is the Yakisugi method. This method is a traditional Japanese method that is environmentally friendly, more efficient, and economical. The application of the Yakisugi method can improve the quality of fast-growing wood that has low quality. This study was conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of Yakisugi method on 5 commercial wood in NTB. The results of this research indicate the best charring time of yakisugi method is only 40 seconds charring, while the worst is 60 seconds charring and it is decrease the mechanical properties of all types of wood.

Abstract

Program studi Kehutanan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Mataram merupakan satu-satunya Prodi Kehutanan Perguruan Tinggi Pemerintah, yang ada di kawasan Bali dan Nusa Tenggara dengan jumlah mahasiswa setiap tahunnya yang terus bertambah. Pertambahan mahasiswa tersebut berbanding terbalik dengan jumlah mahasiswa yang mengikuti kompetisi dan perlombaan di bidang Akademik. Berdasarkan Laporan Kinerja Program Studi (LKPS) Tahun 2020 – 2022 menunjukkan prestasi akademik mahasiswa Prodi Kehutanan masih minim yaitu sekitar 1.3%. Hal tersebut perlu ditindak lanjuti untuk meningkatkan motivasi dalam menunjang minat dan bakat mahasiswa. Pengembangan minat dan bakat dapat diawali dengan melakukan analisis SWOT, sehingga tujuan dari pengabdian ini yaitu mengetahui posisi Prodi Kehutanan dalam menentukan rencana strategi pengembangan minat dan bakat mahasiswa dalam meningkatkan prestasi akademik melalui analisis SWOT. Pengumpulan data menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kemudian dikembangkan kedalam data kuantitatif, dengan mengkaji faktor internal dan eksternal melalui kegiatan Focus Group Discussion (FGD) bersama stakeholder Prodi Kehutanan dan penjamin mutu internal Fakultas sebanyak 21 orang. . Hasil analisis berdasarkan perhitungan IFAS dan EFAS menunjukkan bahwa posisi Prodi Kehutanan berada pada kuadran III dengan titik (x = -0.4) dan (y = 0.07) yang menunjukkan strategi WO (Weakness-Opportunity) yaitu Prodi Kehutanan harus “mengubah strategi” dengan meminimalisir kendala dan kelemahan internal agar dapat meningkatkan prestasi mahasiswa. Strategy To Develop the Interest and Talent of Students Through SWOT Analysis (Case Study: Forestry Study Program the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram)  The forestry study program at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram is the only forestry study program at a state university in the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, with an increasing number of students applying each year. However, the increased number of students did not correlate positively with the number of students participating in various academic competitions or events, hence the low achievement recorded. Based on the 2020-2022 Forestry study program performance report, the academic achievement of students in the forestry study program was very low at only 1.3%. This problem needs to be followed up to increase motivation in supporting student interests and talents. The development of interests and talents can be started by conducting a SWOT analysis, so that the purpose of this service is to find out the position of the Forestry Study Program in determining strategic plans for developing student interests and talents in increasing academic achievement through SWOT analysis. Data collection was carried out using a qualitative approach and then developed into quantitative data, by examining internal and external factors through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities with Forestry Study Program stakeholders and the Faculty's internal quality assurance. Analysis based on IFAS and EFAS calculations showed that the Forestry study program was located in the 3rd quadrant, with points (x = -0.4) and (y = 0.07) indicating that the Forestry study program should adopt WO strategy (weaknesses-opportunities). This means that the Forestry program needs to change its strategy by minimizing the obstacles and internal weaknesses to take advantage of the opportunities that exist in Order To Upgrade Students’ Capabilities

Abstract

Volume sampah yang tinggi menjadi masalah yang belum terselesaikan oleh masyarakat di Desa Perina Kabupaten Lombok Tengah. Kabupaten Lombok Tengah merupakan daerah penghasil sampah terbanyak ke-2 di NTB, dengan 97% tidak dikelola dan 12% masuk ke TPA. Mayoritas sampah yang ada merupakan sampah rumah tangga, dengan proporsi terbanyak yaitu sampah organik yang menimbulkan masalah lingkungan seperti bau tidak sedap dan penyakit. Sampah organik dapat diolah menjadi eco-enzyme sebagai bahan campuran sabun untuk mengurangi penggunaan surfaktan sintetis. Hingga saat ini, belum banyak sabun cair yang menggunakan kombinasi eco-enzyme dan metil ester sulfonat (MES), terutama di Lombok. Tujuan kegiatan ini yaitu meningkatkan keterampilan anggota PKK Desa Perina dalam mengolah sampah organik menjadi eco-enzyme untuk menurunkan volume sampah rumah tangga, serta memberikan pelatihan pembuatan sabun cair berbahan eco-enzyme yang bernilai ekonomi dan ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan tanggal 01 September 2024 di Desa Perina Lombok Tengah yang dihadiri oleh 15 orang anggota PKK. Pelatihan diawali dengan pembukaan, penyampaian materi terkait pengelolaan sampah menjadi produk bernilai ekonomi, pelatihan pembuatan eco-enzyme dan sabun cair berbasis eco-enzyme, evaluasi terhadap kegiatan pengabdian, dan penutupan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kepuasan peserta pada semua aspek penilaian berada dalam kategori baik hingga sangat baik dengan persentase lebih dari 50%.

Abstract

The sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the woodcraft industry is increasingly challenged by competition from industrial-scale composite products. This market pressure has contributed to the ongoing decline of the partner enterprise, UD Putra Meubeller. The decline in this woodcraft business can be attributed to three primary factors: production, management, and marketing. This community engagement initiative focuses specifically on addressing the production-related issues. The engagement process is conducted through five stages: socialization, training, technology implementation, evaluation and assistance, and program sustainability. The knowledge gained by the partner during the training phase has introduced new ideas for product development in wood processing. The partner has acquired new insights related to yakisugi finishing techniques, raw material control from fast-growing wood species, and the maintenance of woodcraft machinery. This initiative is expected to reinvigorate the woodcraft business by refreshing product designs to align with current market trends and preferences in the furniture sector.

Abstract

Steam treatment is one of the thermall modification methods that used to improve the quality of wood, especially wood properties related to the presence of water. This study aims to evaluate quality of 2 types of trade wood in the West Nusa Tenggara region, namely bayur wood (Pterospermum javanicum) and udu (Litsea accedontoides) after steam treatment. Steam treatment was carried out at 126 ◦C for 1 hour using an autoclap device. The parameters tested included the physical properties of wood consisting of density, moisture content, volumetric swelling and Anti Swelling Efficiency (ASE). The mechanical properties of wood tested included Modulus of elasticity (MOE) and Modulus of Rupture (MOR). The results showed that steam treatment did not change the density but reduction in moisture content of bayur and udu wood. Based on the Anti Swelling Efficiency value, steam treatment effectively increased the dimensional stability of udu wood with a value of 88.81%. For mechanical property parameters, steam treatment graphically increased the MOE and MOR values of bayur and udu wood. However, according to SNI 03-3527-1194 there was no increase in the strength class of the two types of wood, and both types of wood were included in strength class III.
