Abstract

The intercropping system in oil palm plantations is an effort to optimize land, especially at the immature stages (IS), which have a large open space between the trees, so it can be used for cultivating annual crops such as maize. Oil palm trees are generally planted on marginal lands, such as Inceptisol, which generally lacks in phosphor (P). These problems can be reduced by applying arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) to elevate P. This experiment was to determine the dosage and effectiveness of AMF that can improve the growth and yield of maize intercropped with a 4-year-old oil palm. The experiment was conducted at the Ciparanje Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, from February to May 2022. The experiment used a randomized block design (RBD) with six treatments and was repeated four times. The treatment consisted of giving AMF doses, which included: without AMF, 2 g AMF/plant, 4 g AMF/plant, 6 g AMF/plant, 8 g AMF/plant, 10 g AMF/plant. The results showed that the application of AMF can increase growth and better yield maize. A dosage of 10 g AMF/plant is the best treatment, increasing plant height, cob length, cob diameter, dry shelled weight, and 100 seed weight, each 3, 04%, 5.5%, 8.1%, 50.21%, and 8.42% compared to no AMF.Keywords: arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, intercropping, maize, oil palm

Abstract

Due to its economic advantage, the Robusta coffee clones BP 308 and BP 939 are widely grown. Many factors affect coffee growth during the cultivation practice, especially in the availability of adequate nutrients at the nursery stages. Apart from inorganic fertilizer application, organic matter needs to be applied in the nursery stages to support plant growth, such as applying liquid organic matter (LOM) derived from banana peel waste. This study was conducted to find out how the LOM of banana peels affected the morphological and physiological responses of BP 308 and BP 939 clone Robusta coffee seedlings and what proper dosages of LOM were needed. The experiment was conducted at the Ciparanje Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor from January to April 2022. This experiment used a randomized block design method consisting of 10 treatments and 3 repetitions. The treatments tested included 1.5 g of NPK inorganic fertilizer; 10 mL.L-1.plant-1 LOM  ;  20  mL.L-1.plant-1 LOM; 30 mL. L-1.plant-1 LOM and 40 mL. L-1 .plant-1 LOM that was given to both clones, namely BP 308 and BP 939. The results of this experiment showed that there were differences in the effect of LOM between BP308 and BP939 on the morphological response such as an increase in plant height and leaf number, on the physiological response such as chlorophyll index and stomatal conductance at the 3 months after treatment (MAT). The BP939 was partly better in response to LOM of 10 mL.L-1.plant-1on plant height, the BP308 was partly better in stomatal conductance.

Abstract

Abstract

The present community service was aimed to socialize techniques for preparing citrus planting materials in the ecotourism activist community at Pajagan Village, Cisitu District, Sumedang Regency. The socialization was attended by 30 people who were a combination of academics, representatives of Pajagan village-owned enterprise (Bumdes), and ecotourism activists whose daily professions are farmers in the Cipicung farmer group, Pajagan. To produce citrus planting material, grafting is a prerequisite vegetative propagation technique for obtaining standardized tangerine planting material. Grafted seedlings are more recommended than seed originated seedling, because of flower quickly, resistant to damping off, pests and diseases. Grafting is performed to connect the upper stem/scion of a tangerine cv. Siam Madu with superior fruit characteristics and the lower stem/rootstock of a sour rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri). It is hoped that this outreach activity can grow public interest and knowledge in producing planting material independently in the future.
