Abstract

This study is driven by the significance of developing herbal medicine using local ethnobotanical ingredients, incorporating green knowledge and religiosity to influence the actions of individual production employees. It investigates the essential role of green knowledge and religiosity in the eco-innovation of herbal medicine from local ethnobotanical sources. Focusing on Solo Raya's herbal medicine agroindustry, the research aims to explore the interplay between green knowledge, religiosity, and product eco-innovation, particularly from the perspective of production employees. Employing a case study and explanatory approach, 100 randomly selected production employees participated, and data were analyzed using structural equation model-partial least squares (SEM-PLS). Results indicate that green knowledge and religiosity significantly contribute to promoting eco-innovation. Green knowledge facilitates the creation of environmentally friendly products with local ethnobotanical materials, while religiosity offers ethical support for sustainable innovation practices. The study underscores the pivotal role of production employees in balancing environmental sustainability and religious values, emphasizing the crucial link between these aspects for advancing eco-innovation in the herbal medicine industry. This research enriches our understanding of eco-innovation dynamics in the agro-industrial sector by embracing green values and religiosity.

Abstract

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification is essential for promoting sustainable palm oil production; however, smallholder farmers face significant obstacles in meeting its standards, hindering their growth. This study aims to identify the main barriers and challenges for independent oil palm smallholders in the RSPO certification process and to propose strategies for overcoming these issues. Using a mixed-methods approach, researchers collected data from 60 smallholders through a snowball sampling method and analyzed it using descriptive statistical techniques such as frequency counts and cross-tabulations. Critical barriers identified include high certification costs, lack of knowledge, limited resources, difficulties tracking production yields, and challenges meeting social requirements. Furthermore, smallholders struggle with adapting cultivation practices, accessing markets, maintaining commitment, building capacity, and navigating bureaucratic hurdles. Organizations are urged to adopt market development strategies, enhance their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and facilitate better access to sustainable technologies to tackle these challenges. Additionally, enhancing green skills, simplifying record-keeping, reinforcing farmer groups, and offering financial incentives, including soft loans and tailored training, are critical. Streamlining certification procedures will also alleviate administrative burdens, enabling smallholders to adopt sustainable practices more effectively.

Abstract

Dissatisfaction with the work culture in the workplace can lead to decreased employee motivation, especially if they feel unappreciated, lack opportunities for development, or do not receive adequate incentives. This study aims to understand how gaps in work culture affect employee performance and formulate strategies for better performance improvement. Using a mixed approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods and descriptive analysis, this study applies a purposive approach to determining the location and a census method for selecting respondents. We analyzed the data using gap analysis and descriptive statistics. The results revealed positive gaps in seven attributes: compliance with regulations, commitment, self-development, appreciation, effective communication, work-life balance, and discipline, all of which require maintenance and improvement. In contrast, teamwork, creativity, and a sense of responsibility show negative gaps, requiring change strategies to improve employee performance transformation effectively.

Abstract

This community service project was initiated in response to the growing concern about declining environmental awareness among high school students and the urgent need for sustainable practices. Given the limited study on effective interventions to foster environmental consciousness in this demographic, this study aimed to fill this gap by investigating the impact of a comprehensive organic farming program. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to assess changes in students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Results indicated a significant increase in students’ understanding of organic farming principles, a positive shift in their attitudes towards sustainability, and a heightened sense of agency to implement sustainable practices daily. These findings highlight the potential of experiential learning and community engagement in promoting environmental stewardship among youth. Implications for educational policy, community development, and future study are discussed.

Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum) are a popular spice vegetable cultivated in Indonesia, ranging from lowlands to highlands. Their demand continues to grow as they are an essential kitchen commodity, although their prices often fluctuate. This research aimed to examine the disease symptoms in shallot plants caused by pathogenic fungi and to identify the types of pathogenic fungi present on agricultural land in Bangsalan Village, Boyolali Regency. The study consisted of three blocks, each containing 12 plots, and each plot comprising 15 plants. From each plot, five plants were randomly selected as samples. This qualitative research utilized observational and descriptive methods, where symptoms observed in the field were described and identified based on macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Macroscopic identification revealed symptoms such as wilting, rot, and spots on both leaves and tubers. Microscopic identification confirmed infections by the fungi Colletotrichum sp. (causing anthracnose), Fusarium spp., and Aspergillus sp. on shallots. The findings from this study provide valuable recommendations for managing shallot diseases in subsequent planting seasons if similar symptoms are observed.
