Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of music tempo on work productivity and the level of cognitive failure among employees in the fabrication division of PT. Adi Joyo Kusumo. Music is used as an intervention to address boredom and stress caused by monotonous work. This research employs the Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (CFQ) method distributed to 12 employees, and observations were made on production quantities over seven days under three conditions: without music, fast tempo music, and slow tempo music. The results indicate that fast tempo music yields the highest productivity level with a total production of 26 units, followed by the no music condition (23 units) and slow tempo music (21 units). Validity tests show that all CFQ items are valid, and reliability tests yield a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.921, indicating reliability. ANOVA tests show a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and an F value of 17.078, indicating a significant effect of music tempo on cognitive failure levels. Although fast tempo music can enhance work performance, the noise level reached 89 dB, disturbing other divisions. This study concludes that fast tempo music can be used as a productivity enhancement strategy, provided that noise levels are controlled to avoid negative impacts on other work environments.

Abstract

To reduce risk factors for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in the denture fabrication workforce, low-cost ergonomic interventions can be highly effective. This study aims to identify the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in the laboratory of PT X and reduce, enhancing worker comfort, productivity, and overall well-being. Using quantitative methods through RULA and REBA, as well as analysis of the ErgoFellow application, it was found that more than 50% of workers experienced musculoskeletal symptoms in the neck, shoulders, upper back, and wrists in the last 12 months. The Nordic Body Map questionnaire showed discomfort in most respondents due to their work. The results of the work posture analysis showed that the casting and sun-blasting workstations had a score of 4 with a moderate risk profile. In contrast, the night cooling workstation had the highest score of 6 with a moderate risk profile, indicating the need for further improvement. The night cooling station in particular requires investigation regarding the lowering of the stove position and adjustment of the pan position to reduce the risk to the arms and shoulders and improve safety. These recommendations are expected to improve working conditions and mitigate musculoskeletal risks at PT X.

Abstract

General Background: Occupational health and safety remains a critical concern in manufacturing operations where unrecognized hazards contribute to workplace accidents. Specific Background: In agricultural machinery production, the production department still encounters multiple hazards, limited supervision, and low compliance with safety standards despite the establishment of a dedicated safety unit. Knowledge Gap: Prior studies applying Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) predominantly focus on identification and assessment stages, with limited integration of root cause analysis for high and extreme risks. Aims: This study aims to systematically identify hazards, assess risk levels, and determine appropriate control measures through an integrated HIRARC and Fishbone approach. Results: The analysis identified 27 risk events, comprising 10 low, 8 medium, 8 high, and 1 extreme risk, with the most critical risk associated with crane-based material handling operations requiring immediate control prioritization. Root causes of high and extreme risks were linked to human, machine, method, material, and environmental factors. Novelty: The study introduces an integrated HIRARC–Fishbone framework to prioritize risk control while simultaneously identifying root causes in manufacturing processes. Implications: This approach provides a structured basis for prioritizing critical risks and supports systematic accident prevention strategies, contributing to improved occupational safety performance in industrial environments. Highlights: Twenty-seven hazard-related activities were classified into four risk categories. Crane-based material handling emerged as the most critical hazard source. Human-related factors dominated the root causes across high-risk scenarios. Keywords: Fishbone Diagram, HIRARC, Manufacturing Industry, Occupational Health and Safety
