Abstract

Even though reviews related to metacognition in education have been reported periodically, reviews of metacognition in physics education have rarely been explored. This study aims to analyze the trends and development patterns of metacognition research in physics education through a systematic review of the literature, identify the most researched aspects of metacognition as well as unanswered gaps in the context of physics education, and specifically assess effective metacognitive instructional practices or uncover the lack of research on teachers' pedagogical knowledge. This study examines 17 physics education- related papers that were published between 2013 to 2021 in peer-reviewed journals. Following data extraction based on the criteria introduced by Flavel, then synthesized and reported narratively. Based on the analysis, the findings of this study reported that the studies of metacognition in physics education focused on metacognitive knowledge (MK) more than metacognitive experience (ME), little attention has been given to metacognitive instruction in physics learning (n=7 out of 17 articles), and related to professional development of pre-service teachers (in higher education) and teachers of physics education, studies of metacognition for pre- and in-service trainings have not been addressed yet. These findings identified that there are gaps in research related to metacognition in physics education and these gaps need to be explored for further research. These findings identify that there are gaps in research relating to metacognition in physics education and these gaps need to be explored for further research. Thus, the results of this analysis are expected to provide a comprehensive mapping of the development of metacognition research in physics education, be the basis for the development of more effective learning strategies and metacognition-based teacher training, and open up further research opportunities, especially related to teacher pedagogical training and the integration of metacognition in the physics curriculum.

Abstract

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) contribute around 60% to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), playing a crucial role in economic development. MSME growth is the main focus, influenced by macroeconomic factors such as the BI Rate, inflation and exchange rate. This study uses secondary data from Bank Indonesia, BPS, and the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises from 1997 to 2022. The quantitative analysis method using Eviews 10 shows that the BI Rate has a positive impact on the number of MSMEs but inflation and exchange rates have not. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of appropriate policies to support the growth of the MSME sector and the economy as a whole.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a competency that must be trained in students because this ability is needed in today's life. Discovery learning models can help students eliminate their doubts about a concept because it leads to a final and definite truth. This study aims to determine the effect of PhET simulation on the Discovery learning model on students' critical thinking skills. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Sape, Jalan Pelabuhan Sape, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. The data collection technique in this study used a test instrument to measure students' thinking skills. Utilizing tests at the beginning of learning (pre-test) and tests at the end of learning (post-test), the results of the pre-test and post-test are the data to determine students' critical thinking skills. The data analysis used is parametric analysis. The results of this study show a significant effect between the PhET simulation and the Discovery learning model on students' critical thinking skills in the form of an increase in post-test scores that occur in the experimental class using PhET-based learning.

Abstract

This study successfully synthesized Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (MIONs) through two different processes, namely mechanical synthesis (MIONs – M) and chemical synthesis (MIONs – N). The synthesized samples were characterized using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) to determine the elemental composition, morphology, structure, and magnetization of the samples. XRF analysis revealed that iron (Fe) dominated both samples, with concentrations reaching 93.91% for MIONs – M and 89.91% for MIONs – N. SEM morphological analysis showed that the MIONs tended to be spherical and experienced agglomeration, with particle size distribution around 120 nm for MIONs – M and 30 nm for MIONs – N. XRD data indicated that both samples exhibited a cubic spinel Fe3O4 phase, consistent with the AMCSD 0000945 model data. Using the refinement method and Debye-Scherrer equation, the crystallite size and density of MIONs – M were found to be larger than MIONs – N. This correlates with VSM data analysis, where the saturation magnetization of MIONs – M (49.51 emu/g) was greater than that of MIONs – N (26.54 emu/g). These results provide important insights into the characteristics of MIONs and their implications for technological and industrial applications.

Abstract

This research explores high school students' problem-solving abilities based on gender in a static and dynamic fluid material. The type of research is quantitative descriptive research design. The population of this research was class XII students at one of the state schools in Malang, East Java. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, which was done by selecting students taught by the same teacher. The selected sample consisted of 115 students, 34 males and 81 females. The data in this study was collected by giving a test, where the test instrument used was seven essay questions on fluid material, which had a reliability coefficient of 0.70 (high). The data obtained was then analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and the ANOVA test. The research results show differences in problem-solving ability between male and female students, where female students have higher problem-solving ability than male students in all problem-solving processes. The physics approach is the highest process mastered by students, while the mathematical procedure is the lowest. A physics problem-solving process is still in the low category, indicating that efforts are needed to improve students' problem-solving ability.

Abstract

This study employs a quantitative research method to examine the impact of the number of MSMEs and poverty rates on unemployment rates in Indonesia from 2011 to 2022, utilizing data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS Indonesia) and Bank Indonesia. The analysis reveals a significant relationship between the increase in MSMEs, poverty index fluctuations, and unemployment rate changes during this period. The findings demonstrate a strong correlation between the growth of MSMEs and a reduction in unemployment, whereas the relationship between poverty levels and unemployment rates is weak. This suggests that the expansion of MSMEs is an effective strategy for reducing unemployment and improving economic conditions. The study aims to enhance understanding of the factors influencing unemployment and the challenges policymakers face, providing valuable insights for efforts to combat unemployment. Additionally, the dataset used may benefit other studies addressing unemployment issues in Indonesia and similar regions. The results confirm the crucial role of MSME development in lowering unemployment rates, highlighting its potential as a viable policy approach for economic improvement.

Abstract

This study examines the feasibility and student responses to worksheets based on PhET simulations integrated with the POE2WE (Predict, Observe, Explain, Elaborate, Write, Evaluate) learning model for teaching momentum and impulse. The research employed a 4D development model and involved expert validators, practitioners, and 30 eleventh-grade students from a high school in Pasuruan. Data were collected using validation and student response questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the developed worksheets were highly feasible for use in physics learning, as reflected in the validation score of 87.6%, categorized as "extremely feasible." Furthermore, student responses to the use of these worksheets during the learning process yielded a score of 89%, categorized as "practical." These findings suggest that integrating PhET simulations with the POE2WE learning model not only enhances the feasibility of the worksheets but also significantly supports the learning process by encouraging active participation and engagement among students. PhET simulations provide an interactive and visually appealing approach to understanding abstract physics concepts like momentum and impulse. Combined with the structured stages of the POE2WE model, the worksheets guide students to predict, observe phenomena, explain concepts, and evaluate their understanding systematically. This structured approach aligns with the needs of modern physics education, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the integration of PhET simulations and the POE2WE learning model in worksheets demonstrates a highly effective and innovative strategy for teaching the concepts of momentum and impulse in physics. The combination of interactive simulations and the structured learning approach not only enhances students' engagement but also fosters a deeper conceptual understanding of the material. Furthermore, the high feasibility of implementation, coupled with overwhelmingly positive student responses, highlights its potential to significantly improve learning outcomes. This approach serves as a valuable resource for educators aiming to create dynamic and impactful learning experiences, ultimately contributing to the advancement of physics education.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of dividend announcements and ownership signals on firm value using a meta-analytic approach. Prior empirical research reports inconsistent findings regarding the effectiveness of these signals in reducing information asymmetry. A total of 30 published studies were synthesized by converting reported statistics into correlation-based effect sizes (r) and analyzing them using a random-effects model. The results indicate that dividend and ownership signals have a positive and significant influence on firm value, with an overall effect size of r = 0.21. Dividend signals show a stronger effect (r = 0.24) than ownership signals (r = 0.17). Moderator analysis reveals that market type, research method, and signal category contribute to variations in effect sizes. Publication bias tests show no significant bias. These findings reaffirm the relevance of Signaling Theory in explaining market reactions to financial decisions and offer practical implications for corporate decision-makers and investors..
