Abstract

Government development programs often encounter obstacles, creating new problems in society. In this context, community empowerment initiatives emerged that took advantage of local institutions that were considered to have bargaining power and were effective in society. Mosques as part of social institutions are also proven capable of carrying out their social functions as facilitators of empowerment. This article aims to map how mosque-based empowerment models and their achievements so far. Through a literature review, this article sorts data from various articles published in 2010-2020 that discuss the topic of mosques and empowerment. This article shows that mosques have various social functions that can fill the void in the role of government in serving the needs of the community. Through their bargaining position, the mosque becomes an effective media or facilitator created social transformation. The models of empowerment by mosques are chosen based on the types of needs and conditions of the community including developing potential, strengthening and protecting the community. This strengthens the social function of mosques which are adaptive and responsive to social needs when government efforts are ineffective.

Abstract

The emergence of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) actively empowering women can supplement the lack of implementation of the program of empowerment from the Government. Despite all its shortcomings, a previous Study demonstrated that NGOs are more effective in carrying out empowerment programs with a variety of models and strategies. Mother’s best friend Foundation (YSI) undertook to actively empower women in Yogyakarta and mengooptasi way to implement Islamic values not only on a theoretical level but also practical. This paper discusses how YSI implements Islamic values and the implications for how the process of empowerment. This research uses the qualitative approach method of verstehen to interpret the subject’s understanding of research on Islamic-based empowerment. Data collection techniques using participatory observation and in-depth interviews against informants chosen purposively. The results showed that the application of the values of Islam is more of an approach at once an instrument of women’s empowerment. Islamic practices are applied in the empowerment of such as contracts, pledges, pengajian, and infaq can push the lancarnya through the process of empowerment. The subject of research looked at that program of empowerment is the obligation to family and God. Nevertheless, there are several members resigned because the program prove incriminating. On the one hand, the implementation of Islamic values becomes the driving force of empowerment, and on the other hand, gives rise to a difference of views among the participants and facilitator so it becomes counterproductive.

Abstract

Desa Keboireng merupakan salah satu desa di Indeonesia yang memiliki potensi wisata alam maupun buatan. Adapun objek wisata tersebut seperti Pantai Gemah, Pantai Klatak,  Pantai Bayem, dan Wisata Sawah. Pengelolaan dan manajemen pariwisata dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Desa Keboireng bersama dengan Pokdarwis. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengambilan informasi melalui wawancara, observasi dan studi pustaka. Wawancara dilakukan kepada pengelola wisata Desa Keboireng dan anggota Pokdarwis. Penulis berupaya memaparkan upaya pengelolaan wisata di Desa Keboireng dalam aspek ekonomi, aspek lingkungan, dan aspek sosial budaya. Namun hasil penelitian menyebutkan bahwa dalam upaya pengelolaan dan pembangunan wisata di Desa Keboireng belum mencerminkan pariwisata berkelanjutan. Maka disarankan untuk mulai dilakukan kegiatan pembangunan pariwisata berkelanjutan. Langkah yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan diadakanya pendampingan pengelolaan pariwisata untuk menuju pariwisata berkelanjutan dengan memperhatikan aspek ekonomi, aspek lingkungan, dan aspek sosial budaya. Upaya awal yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan melakukan sosialisasi pengenalan pembanguna wisata berkelanjutan bagi pengelola wisata di Desa Keboireng.

Abstract

Desa Samar, yang terletak di Kecamatan Pagerwojo, Kabupaten Tulungagung, Provinsi Jawa Timur, menunjukkan potensi besar dalam empat sektor utama: pertanian, peternakan, pariwisata, dan energi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan menganalisis potensi masing-masing sektor, serta mengevaluasi kondisi saat ini dan tantangan yang dihadapi dalam pengembangannya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan literatur review. Hasil penelitian mengidentifikasi bahwa sektor pertanian memiliki peluang signifikan melalui optimalisasi budidaya komoditas seperti vanili dan cengkeh serta penggunaan pupuk organik. Sektor peternakan menunjukkan potensi untuk meningkatkan nilai tambah produk susu dan madu dengan inovasi dalam pengolahan dan pemasaran. Sektor pariwisata, khususnya agroeduwisata jeruk, memiliki kemampuan untuk menjadi destinasi wisata unggulan, meskipun perlu perhatian dalam pemeliharaan fasilitas pasca-pandemi. Sektor energi, melalui penggunaan kincir air, berfungsi sebagai solusi berkelanjutan untuk kebutuhan penerangan dan pengelolaan sumber daya air. Sajian hasil penelitian berupa peta potensi desa yang menyoroti lokasi strategis dan ikon khas dari setiap sektor, membantu dalam perencanaan dan pengembangan yang lebih terarah. Peta ini memberikan wawasan yang mendalam mengenai area-area potensial, mendukung kebijakan yang lebih akurat dan efektif untuk pengembangan desa. Keberhasilan pengembangan potensi desa Samar sangat bergantung pada pengelolaan yang terorganisir dan pemanfaatan sumber daya secara optimal.

Abstract

The ngumbah keris tradition is recognized as a practice aimed at warding off bad luck through a series of specific rituals that incorporate mantras and offerings. This study explores the responses of kiai langgar to the ngumbah keris ritual using ethnographic methodology. Data were collected through purposive sampling, in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. The analysis adhered to Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supplemented by triangulation to ensure both validity and reliability. Max Weber's theory of charismatic authority provided the theoretical framework for this study, which is crucial for understanding how kiai langgar exercise their authority to mediate between traditional practices and religious principles. This framework highlights a dualistic response: kiai langgar aligned with Nahdlatul Ulama view the ritual as a means of seeking divine blessings, provided it is in accordance with Islamic teachings. In contrast, kiai langgar associated with Muhammadiyah classify the ritual as bid'ah (innovation) and superstition. The findings indicate that the negotiation of religious and cultural values is significantly shaped by the charismatic authority of the kiai langgar, influencing community perceptions and practices. This study deepens the understanding of the complex interplay between traditional rituals and Islamic teachings within rural Javanese communities, underscoring the role of kiai langgar as cultural brokers and agents of social change.

Abstract

Mitos masih kental di Indonesia terutama di wilayah Jawa yang masih dipercaya oleh masyarakat, salah satunya di Kediri. Pada kajian ini berfokus pada perspektif pemuda di atas usia 19 tahun hingga 27 tahun terhadap mitos larangan pernikahan sebrang sungai Brantas. Dengan ini peneliti dapat mengetahui pendapat pemuda terhadap mitos larangan pernikahan sebrang sungai Brantas dan bagaimana konstruksi sosial pemuda mengenai mitos tersebut. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengembangkan pengetahuan tentang budaya yang berkembang dalam kehidupan masyarakat, khususnya terkait dengan konstruksi tradisi pernikahan. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan dan manfaat bagi masyarakat setempat khususnya pemuda, serta dapat menjadi informasi dan referensi untuk penelitian selanjutnya. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teori Pter L. Berger dan Thomas Luckman. Metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Penelitian dilakukan di Kecamatan Pesantren dan Kecamatan Mojoroto Kota Kediri. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Januari 2024 hingga Juni 2024. Subjek pada penelitian yaitu pasangan pemuda yang berencana menikah. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah data primer dan data sekunder. Hasil peneitian ini menunjukkan bahwa banyak generasi muda di Kediri yang masih mempercayai mitos larangan pernikahan sebrang sungai Brantas, namun ada juga pemuda yang tidak mempercayai mitos tersebut karena menurut mereka hal ini sudah tidak diperlukan lagi di zaman modern ini, dan mereka percaya bahwa jodoh dan takdir sudah ditentukan oleh Tuhan. Pada akhirnya keputusan untuk mempercayai mitos dan mengikuti tradisi sesuai adat istiadat tersebut merupakan keputusan pribadi yang dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor termasuk latar belakang budaya, keyakinan pribadi, dan keadaan individu.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini dilakukan untuk mengoptimalisasikan branding Agroeduwisata Jeruk-Jeruk Desa Samar melalui basis yang dimiliki oleh Desa Samar, dan juga dibantu dengan video promosi, website, serta sosial media sebagai upaya mempromosikan dan meningkatkan jumlah serta minat wisatawan untuk berkunjung ke Agroeduwisata Jeruk-Jeruk Desa Samar, sehingga perekonomian desa dapat meningkat dari sektor pariwisatanya. Dari pengabdian ini didapatkan hasil yakni selain adanya petik jeruk, pembibitan madu, dan cinderamata dari anyaman bambu yang bisa dioptimalkan dalam pemasaran dan pengenalan kepada pengunjung. Kemudian, terdapat kendala yang dialami yakni minimnya biaya operasional untuk memperbaiki dan memperbaharui fasilitas dan juga kurangnya partisipasi sumber daya manusia untuk mengembangkan Agroeduwisata Jeruk-Jeruk ini. Selanjutnya terdapat beberapa proses pelaksanaan branding yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdian antara lain optimalisasi penggunaan website dan media sosial sebagai media promosi, dan membuat video iklan serta profil desa.

Abstract

This service activity aims to improve the capability of local tour guides in buffer villages in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area. One of the locations chosen by the Service team is Wonokitri Village, which is located close to the tourist destination of Mount Bromo. Based on the results of field observations, there are several problems why Wonokitri Village is only able to survive as a 'transit village' which is indicated by the low occupancy of tourists staying at local guest houses. This is due to the low communication skills of local tour guides to attract both domestic and foreign tourists to stay longer in Wonokitri Village. In fact, based on the narrative of local residents, they are trying to develop other tourist objects that are expected to be able to support the local economy. Through this service activity, the Proposing Team arranged a series of mentoring and training activities for members of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) in Wonokitri Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. The service activities consist of first, training in communication skills for tour guides and tourism actors (owners of guest houses, stalls, and souvenir sellers). Second, assistance in making social media as a promotional media, branding as well as local tourism marketing. Finally, thirdly, English language skills training in the context of tourism for tour guides and other tourism actors. The outputs of this activity are publications in the mass media, activity documentation, scientific articles presented at national seminars, and scientific articles published in accredited national journals.

Abstract

This study analyzes the power relations between Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as the majority group and the adherents of Sapta Darma as a minority in Lamongan Regency, specifically in Kalitengah Subdistrict, Mungli Village. Using Michel Foucault’s power relations theory, this phenomenological qualitative study examines how NU’s dominant religious discourse, constructed through the Qur’an, hadith, fiqh via Baḥth al-Masā’il, and kitab kuning, functions as an instrument of power to shape the practices and identities of the Sapta Darma community. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with thirteen key informants from both groups and twelve months of field observation. The findings indicate that power relations are productive and relational, in which NU establishes dominant norms that define the boundaries of tolerance, while Sapta Darma adapts socially without relinquishing the core of its beliefs. Foucault’s mechanisms of power are manifested through subtle oversight by NU elites and state institutions, alongside internalization of norms by Sapta Darma, creating self-regulation. The study concludes that social harmony in Mungli is built upon an uneven power structure, where the minority remains vulnerable despite formal recognition. The contribution of this research lies in providing a nuanced understanding of local religious majority-minority power dynamics, offering insights for policymakers and scholars to design inclusive strategies that enhance tolerance and respect for religious diversity.
