Abstract

TikTok can be used for many purposes, including for mastering English vocabulary. This study aims to determine the improvement of EFL students English vocabulary ability after being taught vocabulary using TikTok videos. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a total of 178 Grade VII EFL students from a state junior high school in northern Sumatra. In this study, the sample consisted of two groups, totaling 61 students, which were then divided into two groups: the experimental group and control group. In collecting the data, the researchers conducted vocabulary tests in both the pre- and post-tests. The results revealed that the students average pre-test score in the experimental group was 66.44, while the average of the students pre-test scores in the control group was 65.77, indicating similar initial achievements. However, the mean post-test score of the experimental group after being taught vocabulary using TikTok videos remarkably increased to 91.39, while the mean post-test score of the control group was 79.99. Furthermore, the SPSS result also showed that the t-score of the post-test in the experimental and control groups was 5.83, at the 5% level of significance (= 0.05), which was out of the limits of 1.96 and 1.96. Therefore, the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis suggests that teaching vocabulary through the TikTok application has a significant positive impact on vocabulary proficiency. Therefore, EFL teachers are encouraged to selectively incorporate TikTok videos into their vocabulary teaching approaches.

Abstract

Competition in educational quality encourages institutions to continuously improve their management standards. One such example is Dayah MUDI Samalanga Bireuen, which implements specific strategies in educational management. This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by Dayah MUDI to enhance the quality of education through the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM). The study adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of TQM at Dayah MUDI is effective in improving educational quality. The strategies applied include training teachers to become professional educators at both local and international levels, hiring specialized instructors for language teaching, and integrating the national Pesantren curriculum. Additionally, Dayah MUDI actively gathers feedback from students and parents as part of its continuous improvement efforts. The institution also provides adequate facilities to support students' development of both soft and hard skills. These findings suggest that the management model adopted by Dayah MUDI can serve as a best practice example for similar educational institutions seeking to improve quality through the application of total quality management principles.

Abstract

Transformative Islamic Education goes beyond the delivery of the national curriculum to include social concerns that foster personal and communal growth. This study aims to explore and analyze the role of local Acehnese values, framed in the concepts of ‘Adat Geunareh, Syariat Geunaseh’, in developing a local wisdom-based transformative Islamic education model. This research is qualitative, with an ethnographic design, conducted through in-depth interviews and participant observation in formal and non-formal Islamic educational institutions in Aceh, alongside pertinent documentation. Crucial discoveries have demonstrated an Islamic transformative education model in Acehnese society, integrating Adat and Sharia as a single interdependent value system that fortifies life in the community and in Education. Through Islamic Education, local value folklore, traditional dhikr, and khanduri, are not only sustained but also integrated into the curriculum and culture. In this model, the study identified the following features: integrated, participatory, emancipatory, and contextual-culture. The originality of this study lies in demonstrating how both formal and informal Islamic educational institutions in Aceh can effectively incorporate customary and Sharia-based local values into the national curriculum within a pluralistic society. The results highlight the importance of revising education policies to reflect local cultural characteristics and religious values better.

Abstract

Cyberbullying has become a critical challenge in the digital era, threatening adolescents’ mental health and emotional development. This study aims to examine how cyberbullying prevention is implemented in Islamic boarding schools through local wisdom–based management and value internalization. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected from boarding school leaders, teachers, caregivers, and students through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using NVivo-assisted thematic coding. The findings reveal that cyberbullying prevention is institutionally structured through four management functions: planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, with actuating emerging as the most dominant function (51% of coded references). Prevention practices are operationalized through daily habituation, integration of digital ethics into religious instruction, and moral-spiritual supervision. Additionally, Acehnese local wisdom values such as Meuseuraya, Tameusaboh, Seumapa, Peumulia Jamee, and Adat Bak Poe Teumeureuhom are embedded as behavioral regulators in both offline and online interactions. This study contributes a culturally grounded cyberbullying prevention model that integrates educational management, local wisdom, and Islamic values. The findings suggest that sustainable digital ethics education should prioritize moral internalization and community-based supervision.
