Abstract

Teaching material on vernier calipers with 1/128 inch and 1/1000 inch precision in Vocational High Schools (SMK) faces numerous challenges due to technical complexity and limitations in visualizing conventional media. This research aims to quantitatively analyze the effectiveness of Audio-Visual-based learning media in enhancing student comprehension. The study employed a pretest-posttest control group design experimental method involving 30 students from the Motorcycle Engineering expertise program at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Semarang. The participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group (using multimedia) and a control group (using conventional methods). The research instruments were validated by media and material experts, with results indicating high feasibility and reliability (CVR > 0.75, percent agreement of 95% for media and 94% for material). The results of the effectiveness test prove that the average post-test score of the experimental group was significantly higher than the control group, evidenced by an independent samples t-test (t = 7.641, p = 0.000 < 0.05). The N-Gain analysis also showed a significant difference, with the experimental group experiencing an increase in the high category (68%), while the control group only reached the Low category (27%). This demonstrates that the use of interactive visual media is effective in improving students' conceptual understanding and measurement skills. From these results, it can be concluded that PowerPoint-based audio-visual multimedia is proven to be significantly effective in improving student learning outcomes, particularly for material that is visual and complex. This finding supports the implementation of multimedia learning theory within the context of vocational education.

Abstract

Surface roughness is a critical indicator of machining quality, directly affecting the functional performance and service life of manufactured components. This study aims to optimize the surface roughness of AISI 1045 steel by varying parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut) using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. Experiments were conducted on a FANUC 0i-Mate CNC lathe using Al-TiN-coated VNMG inserts. Moreover, the surface roughness was measured in accordance with ISO standards. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed the depth of cut was the most influential factor (45.21%), followed by cutting speed and feed rate. The Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio was identified as optimal surface roughness of 0.323 µm (N5 grade) at the parameter, with a cutting speed of 240 mm/min, a feed rate of 0.2 mm/rev, and a depth of cut of 0.6 mm. The novelty of this study is the demonstration that Taguchi's design and ANOVA combined can achieve reliable optimization results with considerably reduced experimental effort and offer practical industrial deployment, including for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) merupakan metode penyambungan fase padat yang efektif untuk material termoplastik seperti Polypropylene (PP), terutama dalam industri otomotif dan manufaktur ringan. Tantangan utama dalam penerapannya pada polimer adalah pengendalian parameter proses, Khususnya kecepatan pengelasan (feed rate), yang memengaruhi kualitas sambungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh variasi feed rate terhadap kekuatan tarik dan lentur pada sambungan polypropylene yang dibentuk melalui proses friction stir welding (FSW). Proses dilakukan dengan menggunakan mesin frais, dengan tool berbahan aluminium 7075 dan pin silinder ulir. Variasi feed rate sebesar 15, 20, dan 25 mm/menit diterpakan dengan kecepatan putar konstan 1460 rpm dan sudut kemiringan 0°. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pengujian tarik (ASTM D638), lentur (ASTM D790), serta pengamatan makro terhadap stir zone. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa feed rate 15 mm/menit menghasilkan stir zone yang paling homogen dengan cacat internal yang rendah dan kekuatan tarik tertinggi sebesar 13,485 MPa, setara efisiensi sambungan 44,06%. Sementara itu, kekuatan lentur tertinggi sebesar 15,179 MPa dicapai pada feed rate 25 mm/menit, dengan efisiensi lentur sebesar 32,1%. Feed rate tinggi cenderung menyebabkan cacat seperti void dan incomplete fusion akibat distribusi panas yang tidak merata serta plastisitas material yang tidak optimal. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan parameter friction stir welding untuk material polimer, khususnya melalui penerapan tool berbahan aluminium 7075 yang masih jarang dilaporkan dalam literatur dan dapat menjadi acuan untuk optimasi proses di sektor industri termoplastik.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of interactive learning multimedia based on PowerPoint in improving students’ learning outcomes in the subject of Basic SMAW Welding Techniques at SMK IPT Karangpanas, Semarang City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design type. The participants consisted of 60 tenth-grade students majoring in welding engineering, divided into two groups: an experimental group taught using interactive PowerPoint multimedia and a control group taught through conventional methods. Learning achievement data were collected using validated and reliable pretest and posttest instruments. Data were analyzed using t-tests and Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis. The results revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, with mean posttest scores of 80.67 and 70.53, respectively (p < 0.001). The experimental group achieved an N-Gain value of 0.5639 (high category), while the control group achieved 0.3475 (moderate category). These findings indicate that interactive learning multimedia based on PowerPoint effectively enhances students’ learning outcomes. The media proved to be a practical, low-cost, and engaging alternative that bridges the limitations of conventional learning and supports vocational education improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of integrating Autodesk Inventor and Morph 3D PowerPoint on students’ learning outcomes in the Engineering Drawing subject at SMK IPT Karangpanas. A true experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group was employed, involving an experimental class (n = 18) and a control class (n = 19). The test instrument was validated by experts and categorized as “highly feasible,” with strong reliability based on the percentage of agreement. The pretest results showed a significant difference between the two groups; therefore, the learning effectiveness analysis focused on the N-Gain score. Findings indicate that the experimental group achieved medium improvement, whereas the control group showed low improvement. The Mann–Whitney test was used due to the non-normal distribution of the data, resulting in U = 2.000, Z = –5.222, and p = 0.000, confirming a significant difference in the posttest scores between the groups. These results demonstrate that the integration of 3D-based visualization media enhances students’ spatial representation skills more effectively than conventional 2D media. Practically, this study offers an alternative instructional media that vocational teachers can use to clarify object-view concepts and improve the effectiveness of engineering drawing instruction.
