Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of the concept of mahabbah towards the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the poem Ṣallū ‘Alā Khayri Al-Bariyyati Khayman by Ibn al-Jinān using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on the relationship between signs and signifiers in the formation of spiritual meanings related to mahabbah. The text of the poem Ṣallū ‘Alā Khayri Al-Bariyyati Khayman, obtained from the source of the madh nabawi poetry manuscript, is the primary source of research. Books, scientific journals, and articles discussing mahabbah and Saussure’s semiotics are used as supporting sources. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation studies, namely by collecting, recording, and grouping linguistic signs in the poem text. Based on the research findings, this poem displays various expressions of mahabbah, such as adoration, longing, hope for intercession, and recognition of the glory and virtue of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The system of signs, formed through word choice and stanza structure, shows how the meaning of mahabbah emerges through a systematic relationship between signs that complement each other. This study concludes that the poem is not only an expression of art, but also a medium of da’wah that strengthens love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has a major impact on human life, including the emergence of the latest innovations, such as the emergence of Tiktok social media. This platform is not only used for communication and information dissemination, but also as a medium for cultural exchange that is thick with Islamic values such as the recitation of Sholawat Badr. This trend is widely followed, both by Arabic and non-Arabic speakers, including Indonesians. However, the difference between Arabic and Indonesian phonemes causes many errors in pronunciation. This study aims to identify phonological errors in six videos of recitation of sholawat badar with non-Arabic speakers, namely speakers with Indonesian as their mother tongue, on the tiktok platform under the account names @elvoacapella, @religi_favoritku, @hits.records, @trisna2704_, @craion31official, and @sigmaent. This research method is qualitative with data collection techniques used are documentation techniques, free listening techniques, and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of collecting samples, identifying and classifying, explaining, and evaluating errors. The results found articulation errors between phonemes that have slight differences in makhraj and sifat as many as 21 forms.

Abstract

Using an ecocritical approach, this study examines the ecological and spiritual values embedded in Raayatul ‘Izz, a poem by Sayyid Idrus Al-Jufri. Ecocritical studies of Arab-Indonesian religious poetry remain relatively limited, particulary those that explore natural symbolism in the works of Indonesia’s archipelago scholars. This research positions literature as a moral-spiritual medium for fostering ecological awareness amid environmental degradation in Indonesia, such as air, marine, and terrestrial pollution. The study employs a qualitative descrptive method through close reading, coding based on Greg Garrard’s ecocritical dimensions, and eco-theological interpretation. The findings indicate that the poem explicitly presents only the dimensions of “earth” and “wilderness”, manifested through natural imagery such as the sky, the earth, and mountains within its stanza as symbols of fertility, cosmics balance, and submission to the will of God. These representations of nature construct an interconnecion between religious nationalism, ecological consciousness, and spiritual responsibility within the poem’s structure of meaning. The poem thus builds a synthesis of love for the homeland, environmental awareness, and spiritual responsibility, thereby enriching ecocritical discourse in the study of Arab religious literature through the integration of Garrard’s ecocriticism and Islamic eco-theology.

Abstract

Poetry has played a central role in Arab civilization since the pre-Islamic era, functioning not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a medium of education. Within Arabic poetry, the sciences of ‘Arūḍ and Qāfiyah constitute fundamental structural elements, although they are often regarded as complex and difficult to master. This study proposes an integrated analytical approach that combines the structural analysis of classical Arabic poetry with moral education by examining the poem Syarfu al-‘Ilmu by Imam Syafi‘i. Using a descriptive qualitative method with an analytical approach grounded in Ahmad Hasan al-Zayyat’s conception of poetry, this research analyzes the poem’s prosodic and rhyming structures alongside its educational values. The findings reveal that the poem employs the kāmil meter with the mutafā‘ilun pattern, which undergoes permissible variations through ziḥāf and ‘illah, as well as a qāfiyah muṭlaqah mujarradah with the letter sīn as rawī. Beyond its formal structure, the poem conveys core scholarly values, including proper conduct (adab), diligence, and perseverance in the pursuit of knowledge. This study demonstrates that the aesthetic value of Arabic poetry lies not only in its sonic harmony but also in the depth of its moral message. By integrating prosodic analysis with ethical interpretation, this research contributes to Arabic literary studies and offers pedagogical insights for developing more accessible and value-oriented approaches to teaching classical Arabic poetry in contemporary educational contexts.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the poetry of Indunisiya al-Badiʿah by KH. Abdullah bin Nuh uses heuristic, hermeneutics, and ecocriticism approaches to uncover the synthesis of Islamic spiritual values, nationalism, and ecological awareness, and examine their relevance to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4, SDG 13, and SDG 15. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework of this research refers to ecocritical theories (Glotfelty, Buell, Garrard), which study the relationship between literature and the environment; Islamic spirituality theories (Nasr, Izutsu), which view nature as God's āyāt; and the SDGs framework, which guides the integration of sustainability values into literary works. Literature review: Literature review shows that Indonesian literature, such as the works of WS Rendra, Taufiq Ismail, and Emha Ainun Nadjib, has raised a lot of environmental issues. However, ecocriticism research on Arabic-Indonesian literature written by Islamic boarding school figures, especially KH. Abdullah bin Nuh is still very limited. The relevant literature affirms the role of literature as a means of ecological literacy, education for sustainable development, and preservation of cultural heritage, in line with SDG 4.7, SDG 13, SDG 15, and SDG 11. Methods: Interpretive qualitative approach through heuristic, hermeneutical, and ecocritical-contextual reading; primary data in the form of poetry texts, secondary data from theoretical literature; validation through theoretical and contextual triangulation. Results: The results of the study show that this poem utilizes the natural symbols of the archipelago, such as mountains, valleys, dhuha light, local flowers, animals, and water as a medium for ecospiritual da'wah and prophetic nationalism. Nature is positioned as a spiritual space that must be protected, with a message that is in line with SDG 4, SDG 13, and SDG 15. Implications: Showing the role of Arabic-Indonesian literature as an ecological education instrument based on religious values, supporting cultural strategies for the SDGs, and the preservation of intangible culture. Novelty: The first ecocritical analysis of the classic Arab-Indonesian works of Islamic boarding school scholars that integrate ecospirituality, nationalism, and global sustainability.

Abstract

This study examines the critique of the representation of marginalized communities in the lyrics of Humood al-Khudher's song "Falasteen biladi" through Gayatri Spivak's postcolonial theoretical framework, particularly the concepts of subalternity and representation. The purpose of this study is to critically analyze the representation of marginalized Palestinian communities. This study uses a qualitative approach with critical textual analysis methods. The research method is a literature review. The main data source is the lyrics of the song Falasteen biladi, both in Arabic and in translation. The secondary data source is Gayatri Spivak's theoretical book, specifically her essay entitled “Can the subaltern speak?” The data collection techniques are documentation, literature study, and contextual research. Data analysis uses three main analytical frameworks, namely Darstellung, Vertretung, and Epistemic Violence. The findings of this study show that the lyrics of this song. The findings show that the lyrics of this song depict Palestine more as an abstract collective subject, thereby ignoring the diversity of individual experiences and the complexity of the social and political realities they face. In addition, there is a dominance of narrative representation over political representation, which tends to reduce the Palestinian struggle to aesthetic symbolism rather than concrete political advocacy. Finally, this song reveals the limitations in expressing authentic subaltern voices, where what stands out is the cultural elite's perspective on marginalized communities. Despite attempting to foster solidarity, this song maintains epistemic silencing, where subalterns remain voiceless due to the dominance of a strong hegemonic narrative. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of critical reflection on the politics of representation in popular cultural productions about marginalized communities.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the use of illocutionary acts in the lyrics of the song Al-Mahkama performed by Kazim Al-Saher and Asma El Mnawar, which describes a dialogue of a couple of lovers who demand justice for their broken love relationship. The title Al-Mahkama is not merely a metaphor, but rather the main concept that forms the structure of the dialogue in the song, where love is seen as a matter to be judged, and language functions as a tool to assess, demand, and declare the truth. This study aims to identify the types and communicative functions of the illocutionary acts contained in the lyrics of the song. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with song lyrics as primary data, while the analysis is based on Searle’s speech theory. The result of the research show that there are three types of illocution speech that are dominantly used, namely assertive (as statements and defenses), directive (as orders and requests for justice), and expressive (as emotional expressions). These three findings represent a concrete manifestation of language that judges love, where every utterance functions as a judicial process. Language used not only to express feelings but also to judge, demand justice, and establish truth from each speaker's perspective. This research contributes to the development of pragmatic studies and expands linguistic research in the field of modern Arabic music.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in religious sermons delivered after Ratib activities at Majelis Taklim Al Malikiy. The focus of this research is on language use as a medium for conveying religious messages and as a marker of religious identity in a non-formal religious context. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data consisting of the preacher’s utterances collected during Ratib activities. Data were collected through observation and note-taking and carefully transcribed to preserve the original context of the utterances. The results indicate that code-switching occurs when the preacher shifts from Indonesian to Arabic to adjust meanings to religious contexts and to emphasize certain messages. Meanwhile, code-mixing appears as the insertion of Arabic words, phrases, and expressions into Indonesian utterances, which serves to strengthen religious nuance and build emotional closeness with the audience. Overall, this study shows that code-switching and code-mixing function not merely as linguistic phenomena, but also as rhetorical strategies in religious preaching. Language plays an important role in constructing meaning, reinforcing religious identity, and enhancing the effectiveness of dakwah in non-formal religious settings.
