Abstract

This study examines the role of muzakki awareness in optimizing zakat as an instrument for rural community empowerment. Zakat has great potential to reduce poverty, improve welfare, and promote rural economic independence when managed productively. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that muzakki awareness in paying zakat is influenced by religious understanding, household economic conditions, trust in zakat management institutions, and the role of religious leaders. A high level of awareness has been proven to contribute to the increase in zakat collection, which is then utilized for rural community empowerment programs such as micro-enterprise development, education, and health services. This study highlights the importance of religious value-based outreach strategies, transparency in zakat institutions, and village government synergy in strengthening the role of zakat as an instrument of rural development

Abstract

This article discusses strategies for strengthening the participation of transmigrant communities through empowerment programs implemented by the Pekanbaru Transmigrant Community Training and Empowerment Center (BPPMT). The main focus of the activities is to increase community capacity through training in processing agricultural products based on local potential, such as bananas and cassava, involving transmigrant and local communities from Sungai Cingam Village and Makeruh Village. The training uses an andragogical approach and participatory methods, which have been proven to increase participants' knowledge by 83% and encourage social adaptation and collaboration between groups. The training results include food processing, packaging label creation, NIB and P-IRT management, and the formation of group business capital. The involvement of community institutions such as the PKK also strengthens women's participation and business sustainability. These findings indicate that empowerment based on contextual and collaborative training can be an effective strategy in increasing the participation and economic independence of transmigrant communities.

Abstract

This study introduces the foundational leadership theory (FLT), an alternative ethical theory, to better understand the relationship between ethics and work engagement in higher education. The research was conducted at a private university in Pekanbaru City, focusing on the fields of management and accounting. Using a census sampling technique, 195 lecturers participated as respondents. Data analysis explored the predictive power of FLT's components—wisdom, affirmation, and pragmatism—on lecturers’ work engagement. The findings revealed that wisdom, affirmation, and pragmatism significantly and positively influence work engagement among lecturers. FLT, as a novel theory, provides a fresh perspective on understanding employee enthusiasm and organizational commitment. Human resource management (HRM) practices that emphasize FLT-based leadership can enhance employees’ eagerness and engagement, helping organizations maintain a competitive advantage. The results underscore the relevance of ethical leadership frameworks like FLT in fostering a motivated and engaged workforce. Further exploration of FLT’s role in mediating or moderating other ethical leadership practices may expand its applicability. Additionally, demographic factors such as race and income level warrant investigation to assess their impact on work engagement. FLT offers valuable insights into ethical leadership and its effect on employee engagement in higher education. Future research should consider other alternative ethical leadership styles to deepen our understanding of organizational commitment and work engagement dynamics.

Abstract

Siak Regency, located in Riau Province, is one of the areas facing a serious threat of abrasion, especially in coastal areas bordering the Lalang Strait. Mengkapan Village, one of the coastal villages in Siak Regency, has been significantly affected by abrasion. Based on initial observations, the abrasion rate in this area is 2-5 m per year, which poses a threat. Development planning policies play a crucial role in addressing the abrasion phenomenon in Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. With good planning, development will align with community expectations. Based on satellite imagery analyses in 2020 and 2025, Mengkapan Village experienced abrasion at a rate of 6.43 m/year. Development planning policies in coastal abrasion mitigation must be an integral part of a sustainable regional development strategy. Through a combination of structural, non-structural, and collaborative approaches, along with strong policy support, coastal abrasion can be minimized. Synergy among the government, community, business world, and academia are key to realizing a resilient, productive, and sustainable coastline for future generations.
