Abstract

Hyperglycemia is characterized by elevated blood glucose levels that can trigger chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Early prevention through science-based education is essential, particularly for adolescents who are vulnerable to unhealthy lifestyles and metabolic disorders. This community service activity aimed to introduce basic chemistry principles through the preparation of infused water as a preventive effort against hyperglycemia and to promote the habit of consuming healthy beverages that can be easily adopted in daily life. The methods used included interactive counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice with an applied and participatory approach. The educational content covered concepts such as diffusion, solutes, and solvents, and the extraction process of active compounds from natural ingredients like lemon, cucumber, cinnamon, and mint leaves, which are readily available in the local environment. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests, and observation of participants' engagement during the activity. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with an average post-test score of 85.2, rising by 32.3 points (61.1%) from the pre-test average of 52.9. A total of 92.86% of participants showed improvement, highlighting the effectiveness of this educational approach. Such initiatives are expected to be continued sustainably and collaboratively to expand their positive impact.

Abstract

Patient satisfaction is one of the important indicators that must be considered in nursing services. Patient satisfaction is the result of patient assessment of nursing services by comparing what is expected with the reality of nursing services received in a hospital. The purpose of the study was to analyze the quality of nursing services on the satisfaction of inpatients at RSU. Madani Medan. The type of research used in this study is quantitative using an observational approach. The research design used is cross-sectional. The population in this study includes inpatients at RSU. Madani Medan in January 2025 to February 2025 as many as 300 people. The number of samples to be studied according to Slovin was 175 people. Data analysis was carried out using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The statistical tests used were the chi square test and logistic regression. The results of the chi square test showed a significant relationship between Direct Evidence, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance and Empathy of nursing services on inpatient satisfaction at RSU. Madani Medan, where the p-value = 0.000. From the results of the multivariate analysis, the most influential variables in this study were the Assurance variable with an OR value of 66.738, and the Empathy variable with an OR value of 22.142. Conclusion of the study; the majority of patients with respondent characteristics aged 27-38 years, female gender, high school education level, housewife occupation. The quality of nursing services Direct Evidence, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance and Empathy can be seen from the attitudes of nurses in providing nursing services carried out for the satisfaction of inpatients at RSU. Madani Medan.

Abstract

Background: Malnutrition in infants and young children, especially stunting, remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia. Health promotion is believed to improve appropriate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices. Objective: To analyze the influence of health promotion on IYCF behavior among mothers of toddlers in the working area of Lubuk Pakam Health Center. Research Methods: This was a quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 120 mothers with children aged 6–24 months were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Chi-square tests. Results: About 70% of respondents had received health promotion, mainly through Posyandu (60.7%). Most mothers (62.5%) demonstrated good IYCF practices. A significant relationship was found between health promotion and IYCF behavior (p=0.0001). Conclusion: Health promotion significantly influences improved IYCF practices. Strengthening community-based health promotion, improving maternal nutrition literacy, and optimizing primary health care services are crucial for enhancing IYCF practices and reducing stunting rates.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (type 2 DM) is a chronic disease in adults due to the body's resistance to insulin. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the determinants of the incidence of type 2 DM. Methods: The study design was a case-control study. The case population in this study was patients with type 2 DM who had been diagnosed by doctors based on data available in the medical records of Bintang Bayu Health Center. In contrast, the control population was patients who did not suffer from type 2 DM. The study's sample size was 138 people, with a ratio of cases to controls of 1:2. The case group consisted of 46 people, and the control group comprised 92 people. The sampling technique used was nonprobability sampling, namely, consecutive sampling. Questionnaire distribution was the primary method of data collection. The frequency distribution of each variable was calculated before analyzing the data using Chi-square and logistic regression. Results: Diet (p=0.001; OR=4.7; 2.231–10.154), knowledge (p=0.033; OR=2.3; 1.129–4.785), physical activity p = 0.010; OR = 2.8; 1.342 – 6.032), hypertension (p=<0.001; OR=4.9; 2.089–11.784) were significant to the incidence of type 2 DM. The most dominant variable was hypertension, p=<0.001; OR=7.3 (2.581-20.680). Conclusions: Poor diet, poor knowledge, light physical activity, and hypertension were significant factors in the incidence of type 2 DM.
