Abstract

This research was motivated by the low understanding of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 12 Padang in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), caused by conventional learning methods, limited learning media, and minimal active student involvement. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model integrated with Educaplay media (the game Froggy Jumps) to improve student understanding of Husnuzan (Being Kind). This research used a qualitative case study method. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the principal, one PAI teacher, and twenty students from grades VIII.1 and VIII.7, and documentation. Results show that learning planning was carried out systematically, covering the preparation of teaching modules, material selection, Froggy Jumps game content, group division, and a reward system. Implementation followed five Educaplay-integrated TGT stages: class presentation, teamwork, Froggy Jumps games, tournament, and Educaplay score-based team recognition, with higher enthusiasm in class VIII.7 than VIII.1. Evaluation showed a significant increase in student understanding, especially in recalling facts and concepts, along with increased motivation and courage in answering questions. Supporting factors included facility availability, school policy support, ease of using the Educaplay platform, suitability of material characteristics, and teacher willingness to innovate, while inhibiting factors included limited devices and time, less conducive classroom management, and varied levels of student understanding. This research concludes that the TGT model integrated with Educaplay is effective as an interactive and enjoyable alternative PAI learning model for digital-native students.

Abstract

This study examines the improvement of TPQ teachers’ competence in Arabic letter writing through the Art & Letter approach in Nagari Kampung Batu Dalam. The study focuses on teachers’ limited ability to write hijaiyah letters proportionally, weak mastery of stroke techniques, difficulties in distinguishing similar letters, and limited use of creative approaches in Qur’anic literacy instruction. A descriptive qualitative method was employed involving 15 TPQ teachers. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, practical Arabic writing tests, and documentation, and analyzed thematically to identify changes in teachers’ competencies and pedagogical experiences. The findings indicate improvements in Arabic writing skills, particularly in letter proportion accuracy, stroke control, and the ability to explain distinctions among similar hijaiyah letters. Teachers also demonstrated increased pedagogical creativity and self-confidence. This study concludes that the Art & Letter approach effectively improves the quality of Arabic letter writing instruction and strengthens Qur’anic literacy at the TPQ level.

Abstract

This study examines the one-way interaction pattern between educators and students in the formation of children’s character in the novel Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window. This research study is limited to the form of one-way communication between educators and students in the formation of children’s characters in the novel Totto-Chan: The Little Girl in the Window. This study aims to describe the characters formed through one-way interaction patterns between educators and students in the novel Totto-Chan: The Little Girl in the Window. This research is a qualitative study with a content analysis approach and is descriptive. The results show that one-way interaction patterns in the novel are carried out through four forms, namely commands, explanations, directions, and advice. One-way interaction patterns contribute to the formation of characters of discipline, empathy, honesty, cooperation, independence, self-confidence, respect, curiosity, responsibility, and tolerance. Thus, one-way interaction patterns delivered directly and attentively can still form effective communication that can have an impact on the formation of children’s characters.

Abstract

This study examines how Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) shapes academic self-efficacy in Generation Z students in Islamic Religious Education and Character Education (PAI & BP) classes. The design is qualitative-dominant mixed-methods: quantitative data supply a contextual baseline; qualitative data carry the main analytical weight. The research site is SMA Praja Nusantara in West Sumatra, a semi-military boarding school where students have no routine access to electronic devices. This condition makes SRL both harder and, arguably, more consequential. Forty-three students participated in the quantitative component; four were selected for in-depth interviews based on post-test score profiles. Pre–post score comparisons showed statistically significant change in both the SRL group and the comparison group (paired t-test, p < 0.001). That result, however, understates what actually happened: aggregate scores flattened differences that mattered. Thematic analysis drawing on observations, semi-structured interviews, and learning documentation analyzed through Braun and Clarke's framework identified six themes: a shift in the locus of learning control, externalization of cognition through mind mapping, widespread difficulty with self-monitoring, domain-specific self-efficacy gains, SRL as a resilience mechanism, and gradual adaptation. Tentative patterns also pointed to SRL's role in the internalization of religious values, though the evidence for this is limited and warrants further investigation. The SRL–self-efficacy link is neither direct nor consistent across students. It works through psychological mechanisms that vary by individual, domain, and context. These findings extend Rahman et al. by tracing an alternative pathway and by testing Bandura and Zimmerman's reciprocity postulates under real boarding school conditions rather than assumed ones. Practical implications for PAI pedagogy in similar settings are discussed.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy; however, most still operate conventionally and have not optimally utilized digital technology. This Community Service Program (KKN) aims to improve the digital literacy and skills of MSME actors through a one-day socialization and training program in Nagari Sirukam. The activities included an introduction to digital marketplaces, hands-on training in creating seller accounts and uploading products on Shopee, and registering business locations on Google Maps. The method applied was direct demonstration (hands-on training) with individual assistance supported by visual media. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding and digital skills, the establishment of active online store accounts, and the successful digital registration of business locations. This program proved effective in accelerating technology adoption among local MSMEs. This activity contributes to the achievement of SDGs point 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and point 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

Abstract

This study aims to explore how Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam dan Budi Pekerti [PAI BP]) teachers cultivate students' responsibility by examining the multiple professional roles they perform during classroom instruction and character education. The study addresses the limited understanding of responsibility formation as a dynamic educational process rather than as the outcome of isolated instructional strategies. This research employed a qualitative approach using a single-case study design conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kecamatan Situjuah Limo Nagari, Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving one Islamic Religious Education teacher and twenty junior high school students selected through purposive sampling. The data were analysed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while trustworthiness was ensured through triangulation, prolonged engagement, and member reflection. The findings revealed that students' responsibility was cultivated through six interconnected teacher roles: educator, role model, motivator, evaluator, mediator, and facilitator. These roles operated synergistically through classroom habituation, exemplary behaviour, motivational support, formative assessment, mediation of Islamic values, and student-centred learning experiences. Responsibility emerged not merely from moral instruction but from continuous interactions and authentic educational practices embedded in everyday school life. Unlike previous studies that examined teachers' roles separately, this study conceptualizes responsibility formation as a multifaceted character-building process in which multiple professional roles interact dynamically to foster students' responsibility within Islamic Religious Education. This study enriches the literature on character education by proposing an integrated conceptual framework that combines character education, social learning, and sociocultural perspectives. The findings also provide practical implications for teachers, school leaders, and policymakers in designing more comprehensive and sustainable character education programmes.
