Abstract

This paper is concerned with the applying scaffolding in learning of writing for English Second Language learners. A quantitative approach used to address the research problem in this paper. The subject is the second semester English Department students of IAIN Takengon, it was purposively sampled for the study. The pre- and post-test responses were evaluated using the same rubric, modified to evaluate students’ writing content, to increase the reliability of the assessment. The same assessment given in the pre-test was used after the treatment. The assessment was used to determine whether students could demonstrate the application of new knowledge, language, and variation in organizational structure and whether scores had improved. The results have shown that the use of scaffolding EARGD is effective to increase students’ writing ability.

Abstract

The performance of the English language skill of the fifth graders of SD Negeri 1 Takengon was unsatisfactory (avarage score = 34). The limited achievement was due to ineffective teaching and learning process. Therefore, it was suggested that a specific treatment of learning process needs to be well performed. This study aims at finding out if the combination of the Inquiry, Learning Community, and Total Physical Response is able to develop the performance of the students’ English language skill. The study focuses on the students’ performance to verbally respond to any simple instruction with acceptable actions within the context of classroom and school environment; and verbally express any expression of the following speech acts as: giving examples to do something, gesticulation, and giving directions (Departemen Pendidikan Nasional, 2006). In terms of the speaking skill, this study just concentrates on pronunciation and comprehension aspects. To achieve the goal of the study, an experimental approach with the one-group pre-test and post test design was used. The sample for the treatment was 20 students out of 58 students population which was selected randomly. The result shows that the performance of the students’ English language skill in terms of comprehension and pronunciation was significantly improved (34 to 60). In conclusion, the research questions of this research are answerable—the combination of Inquiry, Learning Community, and Total Physical Response does lead to developing students’ English ability in responding to simple instructions, and in expressing such speech acts as giving examples to do something, gesticulation, and giving directions. The hypothesis (Ha) of this research is then accepted as it provides a positive impact for the development of the students’ English language ability, particulary in the area of focus of the study.

Abstract

Teachers are ‘actors’ who have many roles in education. Internal and external conditions are often not exposed by this profession. This study explores the issue of principles and the teaching profession as material for their reflection. Qualitatively, the researcher compiled the data from interviews with three selected informants to present their perspectives on the two issues mentioned. The data obtained were analyzed by being narrowed, displayed, and drawn conclusions. The findings show that educators have their teaching principles in motivating themselves and students. They are committed to carrying out their profession regardless of the educational dynamics.

Abstract

Edukasi soft kill di era robotic bagi PMI dipaparkan dalam Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) Internasional yang digagas oleh Komunitas Pengabdian Masyarakat (KOMPAK) berkolaborasi dengan 40 Kampus se-Indonesia. Target Kegiatan adalan Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI). Kegiatan ini bekerjasama dengan Kedutaan Besar Republic Indonesia (KBRI) Kuala Lumpur. Materi yang disampaikan  berkaitan dengan robot dan kecerdasan buatan (artificial intelligence/AI) yang mulai marak digunakan dalam perusahana-perusahaan untuk menggantikan sejumlah pekerjaan manusia. Soft skill dibutuhkan karema merupakan kemampuan unik manusia ditengah automasi.  Soft skill dibutuhkan karena merupakan kemampuan unik manusia di tengah automasi. Sejak beberapa tahun belakangan, tenaga manusia secara perlahan mulai digantikan dengan mesin, kecerdasan buatan dan robotika canggih. Dengan dibekali pengetahuan dan  pelatihan yang sesuai dengan profesimdan pemahaman dalam mengembangkan potensi dan soft skill agar bisa bersaing dan menjadi tenaga kerja profesional di luar negeri. Metode Pelaksanaan yang dilakukan berupa pemberian materi seminar pada kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Internasional bertema “Pemberdayaan Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI) Negara Penempatan Malaysia untuk Peningkatan Kapasitas dan Persiapan Kemandirian”. Hasil Pengabdian diperoleh bahwa  Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI) dapat memahami materi singkat yang diberikan dan menerima dengan baik informasi/pengetahuan yang diberikan serta terlihat respon positif dari PMI. Target Capaian  adalah PMI dapat memiliki kompetensi,  lebih Mandiri dan dapat mengupgrade soft skil mereka sehingga kelak ketika mereka tidak lagi bekerja sebagai PMI memiliki kompetensi yang dapat meningkatkan posisi tawar PMI di pasar kerja Internasional.

Abstract

This service was carried out to coffee farmers in Pinangan Village, Central Aceh Regency. This community service activity was carried out on Thursday 7 December 2023. The theme of this community service was Increasing Digital Literacy among Farmer Groups in Pinangan Village, Central Aceh Regency. Digital literacy is important for every element of society, including coffee farmers, in carrying out agricultural activities, from searching for information about agriculture to marketing agricultural products. In this community activity, the subject is a group of farmers in Kampung Pinangan, Kec. Kebayakan, Kab. Central Aceh as many as 40 people. The service method is carried out using the lecture method. It is hoped that the results of this service activity can increase the digital literacy knowledge of farmer groups in Pinangan Village, Central Aceh Regency.

Abstract

Language performance is the output of an individual’s language learning. In specific, speaking may serve as an indicator of students’ language skills. Second graders at a private secondary school, Maqamam Mahmuda, Takengon, Indonesia, had poor proficiency in this skill, particularly in English, with a median score of 34. The inefficient teaching and learning methods were to blame for this low achievement. As a result, it was proposed that a focused approach to the learning process be used. This study aims to determine whether integrating the inquiry and learning community may improve students’ English-speaking skills. It is expected to encourage students’ engagement in a learning group, predominantly speaking. In detail, the study focuses on how appropriately students perform in simple dialogue and monologues, and personal recounts following social function, general structure, and appropriate and contextual language elements. An experimental strategy using a one-group pretest and post-test design was employed to accomplish the study’s objective. Twenty pupils were randomly chosen as the treatment sample from a total population of 58 students. The outcome demonstrates that the students’ comprehension and pronunciation of English were significantly enhanced, from 34 to 60. The finding promotes the approach as a positive way to enhance students’ interest, comprehension, and confidence to speak in classroom interactions.

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores the integration of AI tools in teaching English writing in rural Central Aceh, offering insights into the educators’ challenges and adaptive strategies. Amidst the global push towards digital education, rural areas often lag behind due to infrastructural deficits and limited access to advanced technological resources. This study aims to understand how AI tools are being utilized by teachers in such contexts to improve English writing skills. Conducted through semi-structured interviews with three high school teachers, the study employs a thematic analysis to uncover how educators navigate the complexities of using AI tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Quillbot under constrained conditions. Key challenges identified include limited technological infrastructure, absence of formal training, and diverse student proficiency with technology. Despite these challenges, teachers have adopted innovative strategies such as shared computer time, collaborative learning, self-learning initiatives, and leveraging community support networks. The findings highlight the resilience and adaptability of educators in underserved regions, suggesting that enhancing technological infrastructure, providing targeted professional development, and developing user-friendly AI tools are crucial for bridging the educational divide. The study calls for a balanced approach to integrating AI in education, ensuring that it complements traditional teaching methods and fosters inclusive learning environments.

Abstract

Senior High School 5 Muhammadiyah Takengon is an educational institution under the Muhammadiyah organisation, which has educational institutions ranging from elementary to senior high levels. The students of SMA 5 Muhammadiyah are the future successors of the nation who need guidance and direction regarding their career and future. Many students when they graduate have a dilemma determining their direction and purpose, especially when they come from lower middle class families and parents with minimal education, of course students will experience difficulties due to the lack of knowledge from their parents or closest relatives. The planning of this activity can certainly increase awareness for students and students related to their future careers. Participants in this activity are students of class VIII IPS, where this activity is carried out for three face-to-face meetings. This activity consists of socialising the importance of education and careers and efforts to increase motivation for students. This service activity is carried out in the form of coaching. The expectation of the service team is that students' motivation and understanding of careers and their future will increase.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan sistem penilaian kinerja berbasis Balanced Scorecard (BSC) di SD IT Muhammadiyah Bireuen sebagai upaya peningkatan kualitas tata kelola tenaga pengajar. Permasalahan utama mitra adalah ketiadaan sistem evaluasi kinerja yang terstruktur serta disparitas kompetensi guru akibat latar belakang pendidikan yang beragam. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi penyusunan sistem evaluasi kinerja, lokakarya penyusunan KPI, pelatihan pedagogi, uji coba sistem, implementasi dashboard kinerja, serta pelibatan aktif mahasiswa dalam dokumentasi dan evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa guru dan pimpinan sekolah merespons positif penerapan BSC, terbukti dengan keterlibatan aktif dalam penyusunan indikator kinerja dan pengisian dashboard evaluasi. Selain itu, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran pentingnya pengukuran kinerja berbasis data dan memperkuat budaya mutu di lingkungan sekolah. Mahasiswa yang terlibat juga memperoleh pengalaman praktis dalam penerapan konsep manajemen strategis di lembaga pendidikan dasar. Dengan hasil ini, BSC dapat direplikasi di Amal Usaha Muhammadiyah (AUM) lainnya sebagai instrumen pengukuran kinerja yang objektif, kolaboratif, dan berorientasi pada peningkatan mutu pendidikan secara berkelanjutan
