Abstract

The Smong folklore from Simeulue, Aceh Province, represents a form of local wisdom that embodies community knowledge in natural disaster mitigation, particularly tsunamis. This traditional story highlights how indigenous knowledge plays a crucial role in preparing communities for potential megathrust disasters along the Sumatra Trench. The purpose of this study is to explore the role of Smong folklore in educating the people of Aceh and Indonesia about disaster preparedness and how these local values contribute to strengthening disaster mitigation efforts. This research employs a qualitative approach, with a literature review as the primary method of analysis. The findings indicate that the Smong folklore contains essential mitigation elements that remain highly relevant in contemporary disaster management. The story serves as a powerful educational tool to enhance public awareness and preparedness for major earthquakes, including megathrust disasters. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern disaster response strategies, communities can develop a more resilient approach to disaster preparedness. This study underscores the importance of preserving and promoting local wisdom in disaster education to minimize future risks and improve community resilience.

Abstract

Using a combination of socialization, education, and simulation with the Volcanic Eruption Replica Media, the research successfully improved students' understanding and readiness to face natural disaster potentials. Evaluation results showed significant improvements in student participation, understanding of disaster preparedness, and proficiency in disaster mitigation simulations. This indicates the effectiveness of educational approaches in preparing school communities for disaster threats in vulnerable areas. The initiative underscores the importance of integrating disaster mitigation education into school curricula, especially in disaster-prone regions.ABSTRAKGunung Merapi melalui kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat. Melalui pendekatan sosialisasi, penyuluhan, dan simulasi menggunakan Media Replica Volcanic Eruption, penelitian ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa dalam memahami dan menghadapi potensi bencana alam. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam partisipasi siswa, pemahaman terhadap persiapan menghadapi bencana, serta kemampuan dalam melakukan simulasi mitigasi bencana. Hal ini mengindikasikan efektivitas pendekatan edukatif dalam mempersiapkan komunitas sekolah terhadap ancaman bencana di wilayah rawan. Kegiatan ini menekankan pentingnya integrasi pendidikan mitigasi bencana dalam kurikulum sekolah, khususnya di daerah yang rentan terhadap bencana alam.

Abstract

Social science educators in training need strong spatial thinking skills to master geographical concepts, yet evidence shows that undergraduates in Social Science Education often have suboptimal abilities. This study examines the impact of the Problem-Based Hybrid Learning (PBHL) model on spatial reasoning skills of future social science educators. Using a quasi-experimental design, the research compared control and experimental groups through pre-test and post-test evaluations. Participants were Physical Geography students at the Social Sciences Education Department, Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Indonesia, focusing on Environment and Its Conservation during the 2020/2021 academic year. Purposive sampling selected the experimental class (29 students in class D) receiving PBHL and the control class (29 students in class B) taught with conventional methods. Spatial thinking skills were measured with essay tests of ten items covering comprehension, representation, analysis, spatial interaction, and application. Data were tested for normality and homogeneity, followed by an independent samples t-test. Results showed that PBHL significantly improved students’ spatial thinking skills (p = 0.003 α = 0.05). The experimental group achieved a higher average N-Gain (17.95) than the control group (12.62), with the greatest improvement in representation. The findings indicate that analysis and evaluation stages in PBHL are essential for success. Hybrid platforms provide opportunities for reflection, problem-solving, and information exchange. Future research should expand by testing more variables, replicating the model in other institutions, refining learning tools, enhancing lecturers’ roles as facilitators, and documenting student activities in PBHL implementation.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with one of the longest volcanic chains in the world, has 127 volcanoes, with approximately 13% of all active volcanoes in the world located here. Mount Merapi is one of the most active, requiring preparedness from the community, including special needs students. SLB Negeri 1 Sleman, located in the Merapi hazard zone, faces challenges in providing effective learning media for disaster mitigation. This study proposes the use of a volcanic eruption replica as an educational tool to enhance disaster mitigation understanding and preparedness for special needs students. Through a series of stages, including planning, socialization, replica creation, implementation, and evaluation, this program successfully increased students' disaster mitigation knowledge from 30% to 85%. The results show that a multisensory approach involving a tactile replica is effective in disaster mitigation learning. The program also enhances teachers' creativity and provides important implications for the development of inclusive education and disaster mitigation policies. This research supports the need for inclusive learning media and continuous evaluation to ensure the effectiveness of disaster mitigation programs in special education schools.

Abstract

Indonesia yang terletak di kawasan ring of fire mengakibatkan banyaknya gunung berapi aktif. Selain itu, Indonesia yang terletak di antara dua samudra yang mengakibatkan rawan terdampak bencana hidrologi. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan mengembangankan model pentahelix pemerintah, pembisnis, akademisi, komunitas, media dalam mengatasi banjir di kabupaten Demak. Penelitian ini sejalan dengan rencana strategis UNNES dalam mengembangkan aksi tanggap bencana dan upaya mitigasi, adaptasi dan rehabilitasi bencana banjir di Kabupaten Demak. Selain itu, hal ini juga sejalan dengan tujuan nasional dalam penanggulangan bencana yang tertuang dalam rencana strategis Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana yaitu mempersiapkan dan meningkatkan peran pemerintah, pembisnis, akademisi, komunitas, media dalam kegiatan mitigasi, adaptasi dan rehabilitasi bencana yang terintegrasi sehingga mengurangi terjadinya resiko bencana banjir di kabupaten Demak. Penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten Demak sebagai wilayah berpotensi banjir. Sampel dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling, Metode penelitian adalah mixed research: Sequential exploratory design yaitu pengumpulan data (observational exploratoty) kebencanaan, etnografi, tingkat pemahaman dan kesiapsiagaan bencana dilanjutkan analisis kuantitatif untuk menyusun strategi pentahelix dalam mengatasi banjir di Kota Demak. Data diperoleh menggunakan observasi dan angketisasi berbasis online: Google Form. Konfirmasi data dilakukan dengan indepth interview. Observasi lapangan dilakukan dengan angket terbimbing untuk mengumpulkan data peran pemerintah, masayarakat, private sector dan lembaga swadaya dalam penanganan banjir. Data dianalisis berdasarkan demografi, wilayah, dan pemahaman menghadapi bencana banjir.

Abstract

Tidal flooding (rob) along Pantura Road in Sayung District, Demak Regency has compelled local communities to adopt diverse adaptation strategies for survival. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, this research explored coastal community adaptation strategies through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that adaptation varies according to economic capacity. Physical adaptations include raising house foundations, constructing multi-story buildings, and adopting stilt house designs. Socioeconomic adaptations involve collective action to remove road barriers, repurposing newly inundated pond areas, and diversifying livelihoods. Public facility adaptations are evident in the elevation of cemetery grounds and the modification of school infrastructure. Government interventions support these efforts through the development of pumping systems, construction of water barriers, and dredging of sedimentation channels. While tidal flooding reaching up to 40 cm disrupts daily community activities, it also creates new economic opportunities, particularly in fish cultivation. Overall, the study demonstrates that community adaptation is both dynamic and rooted in local wisdom, enabling resilience in the face of climate change impacts. These insights provide valuable contributions to understanding coastal community resilience and serve as references for adaptive management policies in similarly vulnerable coastal regions experiencing sea-level rise and recurrent tidal flooding.

Abstract

Pembelajaran geografi di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) menuntut pemahaman komprehensif, termasuk materi keanekaragaman hayati. Namun, banyak siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep ini karena metode pembelajaran konvensional yang monoton dan berpusat pada guru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan media pembelajaran berbasis permainan ular tangga dalam mengajarkan konsep keanekaragaman hayati, serta menganalisis pengaruhnya terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen pre-test dan post-test. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI 7 di SMAN 1 Kaliwungu, Kabupaten Kendal, yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes hasil belajar dan kuesioner. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji N-Gain untuk mengukur peningkatan pemahaman siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam hasil belajar siswa setelah menggunakan media ular tangga, dengan nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 74,4 meningkat menjadi 91 pada post-test, serta persentase peningkatan sebesar 64,73%. Nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,63 mengindikasikan peningkatan berada dalam kategori "Tinggi". Dengan demikian, media pembelajaran berbasis permainan terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Penelitian ini menyarankan pengembangan lebih lanjut media pembelajaran berbasis permainan dan teknologi digital untuk meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran

Abstract

Tujuan dari dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah menganalisis implementasi dan mengukur efektivitas Game Edukasi Internet of Things (IoT) sebagai media mitigasi bencana gempa dan tsunami akibat megathrust untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kebencanaan pada siswa SDN 3 Widarapayung Wetan, Kecamatan Adipala, Kabupaten Cilacap. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu semua siswa SDN 3 Widarapayung Wetan. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 38 yang diambil dari siswa kelas V dengan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik analisis data dengan menggunakan uji paired sample t-test, uji n-gain, dan deskriptif persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa setelah diberi perlakuan menggunakan Game Edukasi berbasis Internet of Things (IoT) pengetahuan kebencanaan siswa mengalami peningkatan sebesar 18.72% antara hasil pretes dan postes. Berdasarkan analisis uji paired sample t-test diperoleh nilai p value (two-tailed) sebesar 0.000 dan angka tersebut lebih kecil dari 0.05 maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara data pretest dan posttest. Hasil uji n-gain menunjukkan nilai n-gain sebesar 0.69 sehingga tergolong efektif dalam kategori sedang. hasil angket respon siswa diketahui persentase rata-rata yang diperoleh sebesar 91% sehingga menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki perserpsi positif dan ketertarikan terhadap media pembelajaran.

Abstract

Uncontrolled land-use changes driven by rapid population growth and expanding residential development have significantly heightened flood risk in the Kendal Watershed, Kendal District. The conversion of agricultural and open land into built-up areas has altered hydrological processes, reducing water infiltration capacity and increasing surface runoff. This study aims to (1) identify spatial and temporal land-use changes from 2017 to 2025, (2) analyze public perceptions regarding land conversion and flooding, and (3) assess the resulting social and environmental impacts within the watershed area. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS)-based analysis of Sentinel-2A satellite imagery with primary data collected through Likert-scale questionnaires administered to 96 respondents residing in flood-prone areas. The results indicate a substantial decline in rice field areas by 44.19 hectares, accompanied by a notable increase in residential land of 36.12 hectares over the study period. Community perceptions reveal that these land-use changes have contributed to increased flood frequency, greater flood intensity, and longer inundation duration. The observed social impacts include disruptions to daily activities, reduced access to clean water, economic losses, and a higher incidence of waterborne and skin-related diseases. Environmental impacts are reflected in declining sanitation conditions, increased waste accumulation, river sedimentation, and persistent water pollution. These findings underscore the urgent need for stricter land-use regulation, restoration of green and infiltration areas, and adaptive, sustainable spatial planning to reduce flood risk and enhance community resilience in the Kendal Watershed

Abstract

Ruang terbuka hijau (RTH) memiliki peran strategis dalam mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan, kesehatan, dan kualitas hidup masyarakat, termasuk dalam konteks pendidikan tinggi. Artikel ini membahas optimalisasi pengelolaan RTH di Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) dengan fokus pada manfaat ekologis, sosial, dan akademik, sekaligus mengidentifikasi tantangan dan solusi dalam pemanfaatannya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan mencakup tinjauan pustaka dan analisis data lapangan melalui survei dan wawancara dengan mahasiswa serta staf kampus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa RTH di UNNES terdiri dari berbagai area hijau, seperti taman, pelataran gedung, dan lapangan, yang berfungsi tidak hanya sebagai ruang rekreasi, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pembelajaran, penelitian, serta interaksi sosial. RTH memberikan manfaat ekologis berupa pengurangan polusi udara, perbaikan kualitas tanah dan air, serta penurunan suhu mikro lingkungan. Dari sisi sosial, RTH mendukung kesehatan mental, meningkatkan interaksi sosial, dan memperkuat solidaritas antar mahasiswa. Selain itu, RTH juga dapat berfungsi sebagai laboratorium alam yang mendukung kegiatan akademik. Namun, pengelolaan RTH menghadapi tantangan berupa keterbatasan anggaran, rendahnya kesadaran mahasiswa, dan masalah pemeliharaan. Beberapa strategi yang direkomendasikan antara lain peningkatan anggaran, pengembangan program edukasi lingkungan, pemanfaatan teknologi digital untuk pemantauan, serta keterlibatan partisipatif mahasiswa dan staf dalam pemeliharaan. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa pengelolaan RTH yang terintegrasi dan berkelanjutan sangat penting untuk mendukung visi UNNES sebagai kampus konservasi. Temuan ini juga diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi perguruan tinggi lain dalam upaya meningkatkan kualitas RTH sebagai bagian dari pengembangan kampus berkelanjutan.
