Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease and has a strong stigma, but a group of women in East Kutai Regency, have decided to become TB cadres for dozens of years. The TB Cadre's actions are not only to provide counseling to various groups of people, but they also conduct contact investigations and accompany patients until they recover. After that, conducting participatory observations in the field and in-depth interviews with several TB cadres to TB patients. This study aims to 1) Find out the formation of TB cadres in East Kutai, 2) See the socio-cultural aspects that play a role in the formation of the meaning of women becoming TB Cadres. The results of this study, of the 67 TB Cadres, all are women, dominated by the Bugis and Javanese tribes, and most are housewives. There is a paradigm shift, that East Kutai women currently do not limit their space for action and are more freedom to contribute to the progress of government programs, especially health. The results of observations and interviews also show that there are deep meanings and reasons why women become TBC Cadres, both in terms of religion, beliefs, and family. Factors that play a role in the formation of collective action meaning consist of cultural values, symbols, personal experiences, and gender construction. The formation of meaning is also a process between individuals and groups in interpreting and giving meaning to their experiences, symbols, and cultural practices.

Abstract

Introduction: Tooth eruption is influenced by various factors, one of them is nutritional factors. This study was aimed to obtain information regarding the relationship between the number of permanent teeth erupted with nutritional status in 6-7-years-old children. Methods: This research was cross-sectional and correlational data analysis. The study was conducted towards as much as 57 children aged 6-7 years old. The sampling method was the purposive sampling technique conducted in Tanjungsari 2 State Elementary School, Sumedang Regency. The nutritional status was calculated based on the Body Mass Index (BMI) according to age from the anthropometric measurements of body weight and height. Assessment of nutritional status was performed using the WHO Anthroplus® v1.0.4 application. Statistical analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test and Mann-Whitney difference test. Results: The correlation test has obtained the value of ρ = 0.037, which showed a significant relationship between the number of permanent teeth erupted with nutritional status of 6-7-years-old children. The Spearman correlation coefficient has obtained the value of r = 0.277, thus showed the weak strength and positive direction of the correlation. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the nutritional status and the number of permanent teeth erupted in children aged 6-7 years old in the Tanjungsari Sub-district of Sumedang Regency. The higher the nutritional status of a child, the more number of permanent teeth erupted.

Abstract

Introduction: Exfoliative cheilitis (EC) is one of the most common cheilitis found in the community. This lesion can cause difficulty in mouth opening, speech difficulties, and reduced aesthetical value of the lips. EC is a chronic inflammation characterised by desquamation, erythema, and crusting on the upper or lower lip. This study evaluated severity level, stress, and bad habit among dental students with exfoliative cheilitis. Methods: The method used in this research was descriptive with a total sampling method on the populations of dental students batch of 2016 to 2018 of the Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran, which obtained 83 dental students with EC. The lips were then examined, and data was recorded. EC was classified into three stages in clinical manifestation: mild, moderate, and severe exfoliative cheilitis. The data were presented with a simple frequency distribution table. Result: 30.1% of the research subjects had mild EC, 53% had moderate EC, and 16.9% had severe EC. The predisposing factors of EC in this research were stress and bad habits, where the percentage contribution were 53% and 16.9%, respectively. Students were also found with both stress and bad habits with a percentage contribution of 30.1%. Conclusions: Moderate exfoliative cheilitis is most commonly found with desquamation and erythema clinical features. The predisposing factor of exfoliative cheilitis is stress which has the highest percentage among dental students.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini telah mendorong masyarakat untuk melanjutkan kegiatan pencegahan PTM melalui Pos Pembinaan Terpadu (Posbindu) PTM yang ada di tingkat RW.Kata Kunci: Sosialisasi, Pencegahan, Penyakit Tidak MenularCounseling on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) to Raise Awareness of Prevention in the Community in Cipacing Village, West Java          ABSTRACTThe prevalence of non communibacle diseases (NCDs) in Indonesia is considerably high, including those in Cipacing village,  Jatinangor sub-district, Sumedang District in the West Java Province. Despite this fact, there is low awareness of prevention among the villagers, eventhough they aware of the serious impact of the diseases towards their health  and social-economic status. This activity aims at build awareness among villagers towards non-communicable diseases prevention. In this activity, combination of information dissemination and NCD scrining has effectively endorsed the villagers to build their awareness of the disease and has inspired them to initiate action for prevention. The scrining result showed that most of the villagers are at high risk of NCDs, in particular hypertension. This data has successfully endorsed the villagers to establish NCD scrining and mangement in their own neighborhood through Pos Pembinaan Terpadu (Posbindu) PTM, a community-based activity of NCD prevention and management.
