Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how students at SMP Swasta Sinar Sentosa felt about online learning during the covid-19 pandemic. This study uses a quantitative approach to conduct a descriptive investigation. A survey method was used in this study. The information was gathered utilizing a questionnaire at SMP Swasta Sinar Sentosa, 26 of the ninth graders took part in this investigation. The researcher discovered that learning online during the covid-19 pandemic is less effective than learning in the classroom. The students showed positive and negative perceptions. Online learning at SMP Swasta Sinar Sentosa, students learn through a variety of applications, including WhatsApp, Zoom, and Google Classroom. Based on the analysis of the data, the conclusion can be drawn that students’ perceptions of online learning during the covid-19 pandemic have positive perceptions and negative perceptions. This can be seen from the percentage of the data based on some dimensions. Perception related to the dimension of teaching material with a percentage of 71,79 % agree perception related to the dimension of atmosphere or learning environment with a percentage of 74,03 %disagrees, and perception related to students’ interaction with a percentage of 69,22 % disagree. From the finding that has been discussed, the students cannot adapt and adjust to all the dimensions contained in the online learning process.

Abstract

This research entitled The Readability of Bilingual Comic “Wow of Cinderella” Translation Techniques. This research aimed to describe the translation techniques based on Molina and Albir’s theory and to know the readability of translation used in bilingual comic “Wow of Cinderella”. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Data of this research were sentences in bilingual comic both English and Indonesian. The raters of this research are student of Senior High School, student of University and an English teacher. They are asking to read the bilingual comic then do the questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the writer used comparison method to compare between the SL and TL that were analyzed. The result of this research showed that target text used eighteen translation techniques. They are Adaptation 3%, Amplification 4%, Borrowing 2%, Calque 2%, Compensation 7%, Description 5%, Discursive Creation 1%, Established Equivalence 2%, Generalization 2%, Linguistics Amplification 5%, Linguistics Compression 4%, Literal Translation 34%, Modulation 9%, Particularization 1%, Reduction 5%, Substitution 1%, Transposition 9%, Variation 4%. And the percentage of the readability also shown that Readability 80%, less readability 14,67% and unreadability 5,33%. From the percentage, the researcher concludes that the translation techniques used in this bilingual comic is readability.

Abstract

Reading is an activity done to get message to conveyed by the author through the medium of words or standard language. The aim of this study is to improve the ability of students reading at Primary school of Hadomuan 173187 Grade Five. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher applied classroom action research method. Population of this study is fourty three students and sample of this study is eighteen students.The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively through reading test . This research shown that the first cycle indicat that there were some students or (94%) who get below of minimum standard ( under 70) and above of minimum standard is 6%. The second cycle indicated that all student achive above of minimum standard is 100%. It can be concluded that language experience approach able to improve the students reading ability. It can be as an alaternative way in teaching reading for primary school at Hadomuan 173187.

Abstract

Learning style is a way that individuals explain how individuals learn or how they are conducted each person to concentrate on the process. The learning styles are individual and should be able to provide information on the different ways each is learned individuals. The aim of this study is to find out the imagery of the learning styles. This study was done with qualitative research design with observation, survey and interview techniques to collect the data. The observation and survey was done to the students while teaching and learning process, however interview was done to confirm the information to the students and teacher. The population of this research is 190 students. Sample of this research is seventy students. This sample was chosen with purposive sampling, based on certain criteria. This research was done when doing kampus mengajar batch four. After collecting and analyzing the data, this research shown that twenty students are auditory, twenty students are visual and thirty students are reading. This findings will give a better impact on teaching method that the teacher should design in the proces of teaching and learning.

Abstract

Reading is an activity done to get message to conveyed by the author through the medium of words or standard language. The objective of this study to improve the reading ability through guided reading procedure on students grade six at Elementary School Rambah Serit. The design of this research is classroom action research. The students at grade six twenty students is the subject of this research. One of the abilities that students must have is ability reading, with the aim that students understand the contents of the reading text which he has read. However, there are still many students who are less able to read English. To improve students' reading skills, the guide reading method is applied. After applying the guide reading method I with the pre-reading stage, reading stage, and post-reading stage. In learning, results are obtained sixth grade students' reading ability. Cycle I obtained students' English reading ability of 20%, cycle II students' reading ability experienced an increase in students' reading English to 60%. It can be concluded that learning using the guide reading method can improve reading comprehension skills of sixth grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Writing is an activity to create a note or information on a media using script. The aim of this study to examine the improvement of students' writing skill at Darma Private Middle School in Medan Johor by implementing communicative method. To achieve the objectives of the research, the authors use classroom action reserach methods. This research involved seventh grade students at Darma Private Middle School Medan. The population of this research is fifty five students and the sample of this research is twenty five students. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively through writing tests. To improves students writing skills in English, proven to improve aspects of writing, vocabulary and grammar. This study figure out that students average on writing improve from the first cycle 61,2 to the second cycle 82,4. It can be as alternative way in teaching writing.

Abstract

Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) is a social-based learning that teaches students social interaction in small groups. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the teaching method of the STAD model affects the ability of the students to write the essay at Methodist 7 Field High School students in grade IX. The type of quasi-experimental research used in this study, with the design of one pre-test group and one post-test Group. The focus of this research is the student's ability to write before and after using the STAD Model; the subject of the study is a student of the 9th grade at Methodist 7 Field High School, which consists of 17 students. The method of data collection is a written test. The results of this study show that the teaching method of the STAD model affects the ability of X-grade students to write essays in the 7th Methodist Field. The data of the study had a normal distribution of 6.31. The results of data analysis with the test-t showed that T-count = 6.31 with a degree of significance α = 5% and dk (n-1) = (17-1)=16, so T-table = 1.33. It means HO is rejected and Ha is accepted.
