Abstract

Student mental health and psychological well-being have become a concern nowadays. A recent study reported that during the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an emergence of emotional and psychological disorder experienced by adolescents and students around the world that relates to the high use of the internet and social media. This study aimed to report the effectiveness of self-help strength-based counseling (SBC) to overcoming Nomophobia and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among students. By following the RCT’s procedure, this study involved a total of 418 high school students as participants. Through randomized sampling, two experimental groups and one control group were obtained. The first experimental group participated in SBC through a learning management system (LMS), the second experimental group participated in SBC through the paper-based module, and the waiting-list control group did not participate in any interventions. The results of this study show that the LMS-based self-help SBC method and the paper-based module SBC were effective interventions to overcome nomophobia and FoMO among students. The results of this study have implications for the use of self-help methods in counseling services.

Abstract

Specific phobias such as COVID-19 are new and are believed to have developed rapidly since the beginning of the Pandemic established by the WHO in March 2020. Unfortunately, the development of psychological measurement tools related to COVID-19 Phobia is still inadequate in Indonesia. This study aims to validate the Indonesian version of the Phobia scale against COVID-19 (C19P-S). It was recorded that 220 respondents from various groups were involved in this study. The data collected were analyzed by means of the Rasch Model to determine the accuracy of the validated psychometric properties of the scale. The study findings show that the Indonesian version of C19P-S has sufficient psychometric properties and can measure phobia against COVID-19 in the sample group tested. Of the 20 items of the C19P-S, we recommend 18 items that are suitable for use by users of this scale.

The use of social media is a popular communication tool for children and adolescents, but many adults also use it. This is because the fastest source of information today is social media, but from the many benefits there are also impacts that occur, students become less confident in their social environment, this condition is caused by social comparison, often comparing themselves with others when looking at the status of their friends. This study aims to analyze the conditions of social comparison of students based on gender, number of social media accounts, number of smartphones and number of Instagram followers. This research is a quantitative descriptive study obtained through random sampling. The sample in this study were 213 students from Madrasah Aliyah in Jakarta. Data was collected using the Social Comparison Scale (SCS) with 26 items in a five-point response format. The analysis technique used the item response theory (IRT) approach with the Rasch Model analysis. This research tested descriptive with the help of WINSTEPS Version 4.7.0. The results show that the social comparison tendency of Madrasah Aliyah students in the city of Jakarta is more towards positive social comparison or towards positive behavior, for example students more often compare their own achievements with their friends. In addition, students will more often compare themselves with others if they often see the status of friends who have joined to become their Instagram followers.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the inventory properties of the Indonesian version of The College Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (CASES) which is originally Western, and was developed by Owen, S. V., & Froman, R. D. in 1988 to determine the level of student self-efficacy. The multi-stage random sampling method was used with 342 students as participants in Indonesia. Furthermore, the validity was analyzed using Cronbach’s alpha item analysis that shows the coefficient of α > .3, and the data showed that 33 items of Indonesian CASES were valid. In addition, as regards reliability, Cronbach’s alpha was also used for the analysis, and the result shows that reliability coefficient of the Indonesian version of CASES was .931. Furthermore, it was concluded that the validity of CASES was satisfying to measure students’ self-efficacy, and the construct of Indonesian CASES can be helpful and applicable in understanding student self-efficacy and ready to be used in subsequent researches.

This research is a quantitative research with descriptive-comparative. The samples included 221 students. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics normal curve by determining the mean (average); calculating the percentage that exists in a particular category and analyzing t-test. The findings of the research showed 42.7% of male students self-efficacy are at moderate category of and 47.2% of female students are at high category. This research also revealed a significant difference of both female and male students self-efficacy. Abstract

This study attempts to evaluate the Indonesian adaptation of the DASS-21, a scale adapted from Peter F. and Sydney H. Lovibond 1995 to assess levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Multistage random sampling taking from 1478 Indonesian. Additionally, we use The Rasch measurement model to examine psychometric properties of DASS-21. The results indicate that the DASS-21 fulfills the psychometric measurement aspect by providing evidence as a valid and reliable instrument, with a very good item reliability value .99 and sufficient person reliability (.89), as well as a Cronbach alpha value KR-20.  of .91, meaning that the quality of the items is very good for revealing depression, anxiety, and stress. Furthermore, the results are reinforced by the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) value to the residual of 39.7%, meaning that the items in DASS-21 are representative for measuring depression, anxiety, and stress. Therefore, it can be said that the DASS-21 is valid and reliable for assessing the levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. The Indonesian translation of the DASS-21 constructs can also be used to assess the stress, anxiety, and depression levels.
