Abstract

Introduction: Breastfeeding mothers often face challenges, particularly psychological and sociocultural barriers. Globally, maternal mental health and sociocultural factors are major concerns in exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to identify the psychological and sociocultural conditions of breastfeeding mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: A purposive sampling technique was used to select 144 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 6–12 months. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire in July–August 2024. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistical methods. Results: The results showed that exclusive breastfeeding was significantly influenced by maternal psychological conditions (p=0.044), attitudes towards breastfeeding myths and beliefs (p=0.028), cultural practices (p=0.001), and social practices (p=0.007). Multivariate analysis confirmed that maternal psychological conditions, attitudes towards breastfeeding myths and beliefs, and cultural practices collectively influenced exclusive breastfeeding. Good cultural practices were identified as a key factor in successful exclusive breastfeeding Conclusion: A comprehensive approach is needed to promote positive cultural practices through family-based education. Additionally, active involvement of husbands and families is crucial in providing optimal support to ensure mothers are in a stable psychological and sociocultural condition, enabling them to successfully practice exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Health practices during pregnancy, such as smoking, consuming alcohol, or failing to meet nutritional requirements, can have serious impacts on the health of both the mother and fetus. These risks include premature labor, spontaneous abortion, anemia, and other dangerous complications. Additionally, insufficient ANC (Antenatal Care) visits can hinder the early detection of danger signs or pregnancy complications, such as anemia, preeclampsia, or maternal abnormalities, which could potentially endanger the birthing process. Maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) is an important factor that can significantly influence health practices, subsequently impacting the health and well-being of both pregnant women and their unborn fetuses. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal-fetal attachment and health practices during pregnancy at PMB Anisa Mauliddina. The research utilized quantitative descriptive analytical design with cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Amanah Husada Clinic in Gunung Kidul Regency, involving 86 third-trimester pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. The results showed no significant relationship between maternal-fetal attachment and health practices during pregnancy at PMB Anisa Mauliddina, with a p-value of 0,084. In conclusion, this study found no correlation between maternal-fetal attachment and health practices during pregnancy at PMB Anisa Mauliddina.

Abstract

Background: Increasing the coverage of breastfeeding can improve survival and protect children from chronic diseases. However, the low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is a problem caused by internal and external factors. One of the external factors is the lack of support from the husband. Purpose: To explore the involvement of husbands in the process of mothers providing exclusive breastfeeding to their babies. Method: Qualitative research with a generic qualitative approach. Participants in this study were breastfeeding mothers who had babies over six months old and had passed the period of exclusive breastfeeding. The number of breastfeeding mothers was 8 people with the principle of data saturation. The researcher was the main instrument in the study. Other instruments used were interview guidelines, field notes, and audio recorders. The interview results were analyzed thematically. Results: Frequency distribution data were obtained from unemployed mothers as many as 75% with the majority of high school education with an age range of 25-34 years. The results of the study showed that mothers' acceptance of husbands' involvement in the process of providing exclusive breastfeeding included emotional involvement and physical involvement. Conclusion: Mothers believe that husband's involvement is very important in the process of exclusive breastfeeding. The involvement received by mothers can be in the form of emotional involvement in the form of attention and informative advice and physical involvement as a form of practical support in the process of exclusive breastfeeding. Husbands who have sufficient information about exclusive breastfeeding and are aware of the importance of the health and development of babies will decide to be actively involved in the process of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Much of the prenatal class review has focused on identifying and evaluating the effectiveness of mother’s participation to their own pregnancy outcome, however, there is a relatively small body of literature that is concerned with husband’s participation during the prenatal class. Many studies highlighted the implication of husbands' participation of childbirth to the mother’s pregnancy outcome. This research is a scoping review using Arksey O'Malley Framework and PRISMA-ScR Checklist. The literature search in this study used two databases, namely Pubmed and Science Direct, and a search engine, namely Google Scholar. The keywords used are role or participation, husband, and a prenatal class. Assessment of article quality using Hawker Tools. Of the 988 potentially relevant articles, four articles are relevant. Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life is the gold standard in infant and child feeding recommended by WHO and UNICEF. Breast milk contains the complete nutrition that babies need. Only breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months is sufficient for all the nutritional needs of infants. This program aimed to increase mothers' understanding of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, increase mothers' self-efficacy for breastfeeding, and mothers' readiness to face the breastfeeding process. The program is carried out by providing education, demonstrations, and breastfeeding assistance, as well as evaluation monitoring. The activity was attended by nine third-trimester pregnant women and 11 cadres, all of whom were unemployed. Providing education and training about the importance of breastfeeding for reducing can increase knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. Breastfeeding self-efficacy was also measured and obtained an average score of 34 out of a total score of 56. The variation in breastfeeding self-efficacy was 4,153, with a minimum score of 34 and a maximum of 39. The results of breastfeeding assistance and evaluation showed that mothers can breastfeed well and only give breast milk to the baby. This program is expected to contribute to increasing breastfeeding coverage to reduce stunting in children.
