Abstract

Doing multiple activities at the same time is something that most people are familiar with. Therefore, the cognitive control process is an important cognitive mechanism in regulating and controlling human mental activity. This process involves the ability to process information, allocate cognitive resources, control attention, and make decisions. This research is a cognitive science study conducted through a simulation involving three young adults at a university in Bandung as participants. Each participant followed a structured simulation with the same rules. In an effort to collect data, the researcher collected data using a journaling method with self-report technique. This study aims to analyze the picture that occurs from the cognitive process in response to young adults multitasking activities. The cognitive control process has benefits to help individuals in doing several tasks at the same time so that it will save time and make activities run more effectively. Based on the results of this study, it was found that almost all young adults described complicated cognitive processes in multitasking activities and had difficulty completing the activity objectives to the fullest. However, through cognitive control, it was found that two subjects were finally able to complete the task by choosing one of the activities that should be done quickly and accurately in their thought process.

Abstract

In the dynamic digital era, artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT presents revolutionary opportunities to advance classroom learning, particularly in science education. This research focuses on the utilization of ChatGPT to develop a learning model that supports the enhancement of students' Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) abilities. The study investigates four main aspects: (1) How can student-centered science learning improve SRL skills such as goal setting, self-management, and reflection? (2) How can the use of active and collaborative learning strategies in science increase students' motivation and SRL? (3) How can formative and summative assessments focused on developing SRL skills enhance science learning? (4) What are the researchers' experiences in using ChatGPT as a tool to develop and refine learning units, and their reflective research on its use as a teaching aid? An exploratory methodology was applied, utilizing ChatGPT to generate teaching materials tailored to classroom needs. Initial findings highlight ChatGPT's potential to support the development of SRL skills by providing quick access to structured and verified information. However, its use must be carefully managed to prevent over-reliance and ensure critical evaluation of sources. Educators are responsible for guiding students in the wise use of AI, fostering critical thinking, and promoting independent learning. Integrating ChatGPT into lesson design can enhance science education by creating engaging units, providing clear rubrics, and supporting formative assessment. This research underscores the positive potential of ChatGPT in fostering inclusive and adaptive science education, while also addressing the need for responsible technology management to ensure student development and well-being.

Abstract

This study explores how university students experience and manage selective attention in learning situations accompanied by sensory distractions such as music and food. Employing a qualitative exploratory case study design, three students participated in four reading simulations involving different text types and sensory stimuli. The findings reveal that selective attention is an adaptive process shaped by emotional states, sensory preferences, and metacognitive strategies. Preferred music enhanced emotional comfort and supported focus, while disliked music and crunchy foods disrupted cognitive processing. The type of text also played a role"”narrative texts in the native language were easier to comprehend than academic texts in a foreign language. Emotions emerged as a key mediator between distraction and comprehension, and cognitive flexibility proved essential in maintaining learning performance under multitasking conditions. These findings offer valuable insights into the complexities of attention in everyday learning environments marked by frequent distractions.
