Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia is 305/100,000 KH, which is still high, one of which is due to delays in the mother's decision-making. Socio-cultural influences prevent women from making decisions independently during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum because the husband is still the center of service decision-making. This study aims to determine the existing literature review regarding the husband's role in maternal health during pregnancy. The method used is Four database searches were carried out using the PRISMA ScR agenda methodology on Science Direct, EBSCOhost, and Exploration Hare. Data were searched based on research objectives, year of publication, research design, characteristics of respondents, and research context—critical Appraisal using JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. The results of the study show that seven articles were selected for review. Each piece in this review covers various subjects related to estimation, mediation, methodology, and research results and shows that the role of husbands in developing countries during pregnancy and the postpartum period is most influenced by cultural norms. This finding shows how culture affects the position of men as having primary responsibility for the family's financial well-being. At the same time, women are expected to take on household responsibilities such as cooking, caring for children, cleaning, and washing.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the scientific evidence concerning breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding experiences among women with physical disabilities. Exclusive breastfeeding entails providing only breast milk to infants from birth to 6 months old, excluding any other food or drinks except medications and vitamins. However, breastfeeding is not halted after exclusive breastfeeding; it continues until the child is two years old. Utilising the scoping review method, the research employed the Population, Concept, and Context (PCC) framework. Six articles meeting the inclusion criteria were identified from a pool of 1,553 articles from PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley, and Research Rabbit databases. These articles shed light on the challenges, experiences, barriers, and support systems related to breastfeeding and childcare encountered by women with physical disabilities. The research on breastfeeding experiences among women with physical disabilities reveals both facilitators and barriers. Facilitators include adaptations, peer support, and necessary equipment, while barriers encompass insufficient support, health considerations, and milk production and latching challenges. These findings underscore the importance of tailored support and access to information for women with physical disabilities who aim to breastfeed effectively. Implementing such support mechanisms can contribute to improving breastfeeding rates among this demographic, thus promoting the health and well-being of both mothers and infants while addressing societal attitudes toward disability issues.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Pregnant women who maintain psychological resilience during pregnancy and childbirth are less likely to undergo Cesarean sections due to anxiety. Incorporating Islamic principles—such as offering greetings and reciting "Bismillah" before procedures—can foster trust and rapport between patients and healthcare providers. Objective: This study explores how fifth-semester obstetrics students integrate Islamic values into maternal care at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta and Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. Method: A qualitative study was conducted from March to June 2024 at both universities. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with nine obstetrics students and analyzed thematically to identify key themes. Results: Three main themes emerged: (1) Islamic values in obstetric care at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta; (2) Islamic values at Universitas Sebelas Maret; and (3) how students incorporate these values into their practice at both institutions. Students recited "Bismillah" and expressed gratitude to Allah before and after procedures, taught patients to pray, and encouraged acts of worship such as prayer and Quranic recitation (tadarus). These practices reflect a holistic approach that combines pregnancy education with spiritual support, promoting trust and spiritual well-being. Conclusion: Fifth-semester students at both universities demonstrated a strong commitment to faith-based obstetric care. Their integration of Islamic principles into clinical practice enhances the patient experience by fostering trust, spiritual comfort, and holistic support during pregnancy and childbirth.

Abstract

Premature and low birth weight (LBW) infants will increase the risk of mortality, morbidity, and disability, resulting in psychological distress felt by parents. The purpose of this scoping review is to map published articles related to the psychosocial conditions of parents who have premature and LBW infants, especially in developing countries. This study employed PCC Framework (Population, Concept and Context), Prisma ScR checklist, 3 databases (PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Taylor & Francis) and 1 gray literature (Research Rabbit), published from 2019-2024, in English, original articles, free full text, articles from developing countries and used quantitative and qualitative methods. This study used the keywords “Parents” AND “Low birth weight” OR “Psychological wellbeing” OR “Parental stress” OR “Psychosocial health” AND “Developing Countries”. This scoping review used JBI Critical Appraisal Tools such as the Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional and Qualitative Research. Of the 1,939 articles selected through the Prisma Flowchart and Critical Appraisal using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), 9 articles were found suitable. This study focused on social support provided to parents to reduce psychological problems and disorders and improve quality of life. This study highlights the importance of parents’ support in preterm and LBW infants in developing countries, in order to minimize their psychological problems and disorders. The author suggests that the use of a qualitative research method for the next research should be applied to explore the psychological conditions of fathers who have premature and LBW infants in developing countries comprehensively.
