Abstract

The digital space can be utilized for various purposes. For empowerment goals, it can be used to enhance capabilities, improve quality, or boost community competencies. The same applies to business actors. The great benefits of the digital space are accessible to all without discrimination based on business scale or level—from conglomerate-class businesses, MSME-scale enterprises, to micro-level individual ventures, all have equal opportunities to leverage the digital space. Problems with digital tool usage arise when micro-level individual business actors remain unaware of the digital space's benefits. This is the background for the Community Service (PkM) activities conducted by lecturers and students from the Communication Science program at the National Republic of Indonesia University (Ilkom UKRI) in Madalajati Subdistrict, Bandung City. The PkM aims to provide knowledge and enhance skills for micro-sector business actors in accessibility and trading activities transformed into digital networks. To achieve this, the method used is lectures based on specific themes related to basic digital tool usage skills. PkM results show that residents' knowledge improved after receiving in-depth, comprehensive explanations on digitalization, and even commitments emerged to link their trading activities by first accessing digital networks

Abstract

The Asia Africa Monument is one of the historical monuments in Bandung City which was built to commemorate the important event of the 1955 Asia Africa Conference, as well as being a symbol of the unity of nations in Asia and Africa, the symbolic meaning of this monument can be seen through various media, such as in the photo uploaded by the Instagram account @brillianfairiandi. This study aims to reveal the meaning of the signs contained in the photo of the Asia Africa Monument uploaded by the Instagram account @brillianfairiandi using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative through sign analysis based on Peirce's three main triadic semiotic models, namely Representamen/Sign, Object, and Interpretan/Meaning. Data were obtained through observation or in-depth observation of the photo object, interviews with @brillianfairiandi as the image maker, documentation, and data triangulation or a combination of the three methods. The research results indicate that there are seven signs/objects referred to in this image: the dominant color in the image, the globe at the top of the monument, the text "ASIA AFRICA" on the monument wall, the snow-covered trees and clear sky, the lights behind the monument, the building behind the monument, and the inauguration plaque, each of which has its own interpretation/meaning. This research is expected to provide information and add to the study of semiotics with various relevant phenomena in the future, especially in the field of communication science.

Abstract

: In the context of vocational high school education, effective communication involves more than just the ability to speak. Vocational high school students must be able to communicate their technical knowledge to people who may not share the same background. This community engagement initiative aims to provide training in effective communication based on digital literacy to pupils at SMK Negeri 1 Klari. The community engagement approach employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR). Consequently, this community engagement project implemented the five stages of PAR in a phased manner. The participants in this activity were Year 11 students at SMK Negeri 1 Klari. The results of this activity indicate that training in effective communication based on digital literacy can be utilised by schools as a tool to instil digital ethics in students prior to undertaking their Work Experience Placement (PKL). Students do not merely practise communication skills, they also identify and analyse digital ethics and responsibilities in the workplace. In this way, this training programme can support the development of high-calibre human resources with strong character
