Abstract

Background: Asthma control level is related to body composition. Somatotype is a body shape classification that is used to measure body composition indirectly using anthropometry. As far as we know, no studies are related to somatotype and asthma control levels. This study aims to describe the somatotype and the ratio of chest circumference to height and its relation to asthma control level. Methods: This research is an observational study at Surakarta in September-December 2022. The subjects were 51 asthma patients under control and met the criteria. Measurement of somatotype and the ratio of chest circumference to height was carried out by anthropometric methods. The Asthma Control Test (ACT) questionnaire assessed the asthma control level. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26 software with Fisher’s test and unpaired t-test. Results: out of 51 asthmatic patients, 43 (84,3%) had endomorphic and 8 (15,7%) ectomorphic. Fisher’s test showed no significant relationship between somatotype and asthma control level (P=0.56). Meanwhile, the mean ratio of chest circumference to height in controlled patients was 0.54, while those who were uncontrolled were 0.58. The results of the unpaired t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the ratio of chest circumference to height and asthma control level (P=0.03).   Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between somatotype and asthma control level, but there is a significant relationship between the ratio of chest circumference to height and the asthma control level.

Abstract

Background: Young women can suffer from anemia due to monthly menstruation and by having many activities without adequate iron-filled nutrition. Otherproblems found on them are overweight and obesity. The data show that one with overweight or obesity can lead to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) along with increasingproinflammatory cytokines, which will cause the transcription of hepcidin. The increaseof hepcidin transcription will inhibit the absorption of iron from the intestine into the circulation, inhibiting spending iron reserves into circulation, and inhibitingthe release of iron recycled from splenic macrophages. This can cause IDA. The purpose of this study was to obtain the proportion of iron deficiency anemia in overweight or obese young women. Methods: The design of this study was cross sectional using purposive sampling. The subjects of this study were the student from fiveselected Senior high schools inBoyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. The determination of IDAis done by using hemoglobin and indexes of erythrocytes. Results: This study was the follow-upof the previous study, which was conducted to 14 obese and/or overweightyoung women withanemia From 14 subjects, there wasone subject suffered from other anemia and 13 subjects with IDA (using index erythrocytes examination). Their mean of MCV was 72.68±4.29fl, MCH was 23.08±2.63pg, and MCHC was 35.21±0.65 %.Conclusions: From this study, almost all overweight or obeseyoung women with anemia were indicated as IDA (92.8%).

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Patient safety is a critical priority in healthcare, aiming to prevent harm and ensure optimal care delivery. Despite the inherent risks in health services, the 'to err is human' paradigm suggests that errors often stem from systemic issues rather than individual failings. Effective patient safety relies heavily on improved system design and the education of healthcare professionals with a focus on safety readiness. Integrating patient safety education into interprofessional education (IPE) frameworks is essential for fostering effective communication and teamwork, which are crucial for reducing structural system errors and enhancing care quality.Aims: To map the research landscape on patient safety and IPE, examining trends, countries, and thematic relationships within the field specifically focusing on how IPE addresses structural system errors in patient safetyMethods: This study conducts a bibliometric analysis using VOS viewer software, the analysis covers publications from January 2000 to July 2024, focusing on data from SCOPUS.Results: Results reveal a growing body of research on patient safety with IPE, highlighting notable simulation-based training and interprofessional collaboration trends. The analysis demonstrates an evolution from individual-focused approaches to system-based interventions. However, there is a clear need for more systematic and culturally nuanced studies, particularly in Southeast Asia, where research is limited. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of incorporating patient safety principles within IPE curricula and highlight research gaps, especially in contexts such as Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. Future research should address these gaps, explore the impact of IPE on structural system errors across diverse settings, and foster international collaboration to standardize and enhance educational practices in healthcare.
