Abstract

This study aims to determine the presence of student misconceptions in redox material, misconceptions in each concept of redox material, and factors causing student misconceptions in redox material in class XII MIA SMA N 2 Percut Sei Tuan. This research is a quantitative descriptive research. The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling technique. The samples in this study were 32 students of class XII MIA 1 who were selected based on the recommendation of the chemistry teacher. Data collection techniques were carried out using a web-based three-tier diagnostic test, misconception questionnaire, and in-depth interviews (teachers and students). The results showed that the misconceptions identified using the web-based three tier diagnostic test on the redox concept as a whole was 31.718%, while students who experience incomprehension of the concept is 54.687%, students who understand the concept is 13.906% and understand the concept is not sure 1.25%. Students' misconceptions on each concept of redox material are highest on the concept of compound names at 43.8% and the lowest on the concept of equalizing redox reactions with the oxidation number method and the ½ reaction/ion electron method at 26.6%.Based on the results of questionnaires and interviews, each factor has an influence on misconceptions, the biggest misconceptions are teacher factors and teaching methods, namely 21.32% and 21.28%.

Abstract

Natural insecticides are pest control materials derived from natural sources such as plants. The use of natural insecticides is very important because it has a lower cost, is safe for living things and does not pollute the environment, so this study aims to determine the activity of essential oils and n-hexane extracts of beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) as natural insecticides with bioindicators of Hong Kong caterpillars (Tenebrio molitor). Isolation of essential oils was carried out using the steam distillation method and extraction using the maceration method. Insecticide activity tests used the contact poison method and the residue method, with variations in extract and essential oil concentrations of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, 10%, 20%, 30% (v/v) and positive controls, namely Hippo insecticide and negative control tween 80. The results of the isolation of essential oils from beluntas leaves produced a yield of 2%, while extraction using the maceration method produced a yield of 1.84%. The results of the insecticide activity test using the contact poison method were more effective than the residue method. The insecticidal activity and n-hexane extract are more effective than essential oils, this is due to the differences in the content of secondary metabolite compounds contained in the extract and essential oil.

Abstract

Complete basic immunisation is a key public health intervention to prevent infectious diseases in infants. However, immunisation coverage remains suboptimal, particularly due to limited maternal knowledge and negative perceptions. This study aimed to assess the effect of health education on mothers’ attitudes toward complete basic immunisation in Tembung Village, Deli Serdang Regency. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 20 mothers with infants, purposively selected from three hamlets with low immunisation coverage. The intervention consisted of interactive health education addressing the benefits, schedule, and common post-immunisation reactions. Maternal attitudes were measured using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention and analysed descriptively. The results demonstrated an improvement in positive attitudes across all indicators following education, including acceptance of immunisation despite concerns about side effects and access barriers. These findings indicate that community-based health education effectively enhances maternal acceptance of immunisation. Nevertheless, short-term evaluation may be subject to social desirability bias, underscoring the need for sustained, repeated educational interventions.

Abstract

Development of E-LKPD Based on Liveworksheets with a Guided Inquiry Model to Improve Students' Science Literacy on Acid-Base Material  This study aims to determine the level of feasibility, student responses, and improvement of students' scientific literacy through the use of Liveworksheets-based E-LKPD with a guided inquiry model on acid-base material. This type of research is research and development (R&D) which adapts the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The trial subjects in this study were 20 students of grade XI-1 at MAS Insan Kesuma Madani. Data collection instruments used included interview sheets, expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and scientific literacy test instruments in the form of pretest and posttest questions. The results of the study showed that: (1) the level of feasibility of E-LKPD based on the assessment of material expert and media expert validators obtained an average percentage of 84.72% with the criteria of "Very Feasible"; (2) student responses to the use of E-LKPD obtained an average percentage of 91.58% with the criteria of "Very Good"; (3) and the increase in students' scientific literacy skills based on the N-Gain test obtained a score of 0.79 with the criteria of "High". Thus, it can be concluded that the Liveworksheets-based E-LKPD with the guided inquiry model developed is very feasible, gets a very good response, and is significantly able to increase students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

Nucleic acids are extremely important biomolecules. Their function is to store, regulate, and pass on genetic information in living organisms. There are two main types of nucleic acids: DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid), which are composed of small units called nucleotides. This study aims to explain the structure and function of DNA and RNA, as well as to distinguish their characteristics. Additionally, this study analyzes the relationship between gene mutations and the formation of cancer cells. The method used is a literature review employing a qualitative descriptive approach, conducted by examining various scientific journals from both domestic and international sources. The results of the study indicate that DNA has a double-helix structure that functions to store genetic information stably, while RNA is typically a single strand that plays a role in protein synthesis. Genetic changes caused by DNA damage can alter the sequence of nitrogenous bases, which has the potential to lead to the growth of cancer cells. Analysis using graph decomposition indicates that deletion and insertion mutations have a greater impact on genetic structural changes compared to substitution mutations. Additionally, natural substances rich in antioxidants, such as turmeric, green tea, garlic, and soursop leaves, can help prevent DNA damage. Thus, understanding the structure of nucleic acids and gene mutations is crucial for the advancement of genetics, molecular biology, and health technology.
