Abstract

Cervical cancer is a significant global health problem, with the number of cases and deaths rising every year. Patients with cervical cancer often experience symptoms such as bleeding, vaginal discharge, and pain, which significantly affect their quality of life. The aim of this study to conduct a comprehensive assessment, including physical, psychological, and social aspects, in managing patients with cervical cancer cannot be ignored. In patient management, in-depth evaluation of physiological factors such as bleeding, hydronephrosis, and electrolyte imbalance, as well as psychological and social factors, is essential to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality. Nursing theories, such as Theory of Unpleasant Symptoms (TOUS) and Roy's Adaptation Model, can be used to conduct a comprehensive assessment and provide optimal care to cervical cancer patients. Social support also plays an important role in helping patients and their families adapt to the changes faced due to this disease. With a holistic and collaborative approach, it is hoped that morbidity and mortality rates for cervical cancer patients can be reduced both globally and in Indonesia.

Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, with a prevalence of 3.9% in Indonesia and 3.04% in West Java in 2024. This condition increases the risk of death on the first day of life. One of the effects of LBW is neurological immaturity, which can cause sucking and swallowing reflex disorders. If not treated immediately, this condition can hinder nutritional fulfillment and increase the risk of growth failure. Therefore, nursing interventions are needed to stimulate sucking and swallowing abilities early on. Oral stimulation is a non-pharmacological nursing intervention believed to improve sucking reflexes in LBW infants. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of oral stimulation in improving sucking reflexes and nutritional intake in LBW infants. A case study was conducted on male neonates with LBW who received 10–15 minutes of oral stimulation intervention three times before feeding. The results showed an increase in sucking reflex strength from weak to strong, as well as an increase in the amount of nutrition intake from 10 ml to 15 ml per feeding. Oral stimulation is effective in improving oral motor function in LBW infants. This intervention can be recommended as a nursing action to support successful breastfeeding in LBW infants.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Adolescents are a vulnerable age group prone to nutritional problems due to changes in dietary patterns, which often result in an imbalance between nutritional needs and daily intake. In addition to increasing the risk of obesity and anemia among adolescent girls, this imbalance also contributes to the risk of stunting in future generations. This study aims to determine the knowledge and practices regarding balanced nutrition among adolescent girls at SMKS Mutiara Bangsa Purwakarta. The research method used was quantitative descriptive with a total sampling technique involving 106 female students from grades 10 to 12. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire consisting of 44 items to explore knowledge and practices regarding balanced nutrition. The data were analyzed univariately and presented in the form of frequency distributions and descriptive statistics. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a level of knowledge regarding balanced nutrition in the “inadequate” category (32 respondents, 30.2%), followed by the “good” category (74 respondents, 69.8%). Regarding the practice of balanced nutrition, the majority of respondents were in the “inadequate” category (57 respondents, 46.2%), while 49 respondents (53.8%) were in the “good” category. Based on the research results, this indicates that adolescents’ level of nutritional knowledge has not been fully implemented in daily nutritional practices. Therefore, efforts to raise awareness and change nutritional behaviors starting in adolescence are needed to support optimal growth, improve health status, and prevent various nutritional problems in the future. Keywords: Adolescents, Nutritional Knowledge and Practices, Nutritional Status.

Abstract

Abstract

Cervical cancer significantly impairs patient well-being, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where financial toxicity exacerbates the disease burden. Evidence regarding income-related quality of life (QoL) disparities among Indonesian cervical cancer patients remains limited. This study examined the association between demographic characteristics, specifically income, and QoL among hospitalized cervical cancer patients. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 60 consecutive patients recruited at a tertiary referral hospital in Bandung, Indonesia. Researchers assessed QoL using the validated EORTC QLQ-C30 instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, bivariable tests, and multiple linear regression to identify independent predictors of QoL. Participants demonstrated a moderately favorable mean global QoL score (68.4 ± 12.5) despite experiencing a moderate symptom burden. Bivariate analyses revealed that age, education level, and marital status were not significantly associated with QoL. Income emerged as the sole significant demographic predictor. Multiple regression analysis confirmed that the higher-income group reported significantly better QoL than the lower-income group, exhibiting a mean difference of 9.3 points (β = 0.38, p = 0.008). The analysis indicated a moderate-to-large effect size (Cohen's d = 0.72). Income substantially and independently influences QoL among cervical cancer patients, highlighting the critical impact of financial vulnerability on survivorship outcomes. Integrating routine socioeconomic assessments, financial navigation services, and targeted supportive oncology nursing interventions into clinical practice is essential for mitigating financial toxicity and improving patient-centered outcomes in resource-limited settings.
